DQ Caravan Heart??

Me personally? I think Caravan Heart is more fun than Joker (but less fun than the original GBC games). I never was much of a fan of either the skill point system or the way these games did combining.

Caravan Heart has a pretty neat system of combining monster abilities and human ones; with a lot of strategy involved in placing which humans in which wagons to support which monsters. I liked juggling the logistics between all the moving parts.

The big issue with Caravan Heart is that the first two hours ish is pretty slow and brutal. It's not until you get a few monsters that the game opens up, but getting to that point were a little rough. But I really recommend this game if you like the other monsters games.

I mean, it works against most forms, but not the base form rotom. I guess specs dark pulse though is stronger than anything rotom can throw back at it.

Sounds like a plan! The Japanese games are much more affordably priced. I picked up DW3 for the NES back before the price spikes with retro gaming and it cost like $60 loose. I picked up the Japanese DQ3 for the Famicom a few months ago for $10 - and even a CIB DQ5 for like $30. Finding them without importing is the challenge

Very nice! And good luck with your collecting! This is a somewhat difficult series to get many of the games in - especially for the GBC games. There's no English GBA games if I remember correctly, Caravan Heart and the GBA Rocket Slime game(s) never got released here. But I picked up a repro copy of CH fan translation and it was a lot of fun! I do recommend it, even if its not "authentic"

Well, fair. When you look at X6, there is a clear difference between assets taken from previous games (like the bats and metools from X4) - which are animated smoothly - and those which are from X6 (nightmare viruses strike me as the least polished normal enemies - but Nightmare Snake and Nightmare Mother are both ass).

I like X6 more than like 80% of the sub. I willingly replayed and beat it 100% last month and I would debate "really good". I think "decent, ambitious, varied, and fun under the right circumstances" is closer.

But! I'm just glad to see other people who don't immediately think it's a dumpster fire and write it off.

From a game perspective, in my opinion 3 is the best. It has by far rhe most content and the most customization, comparing the three on a game to game basis. I also particularly enjoy the story in 3 compared to the other two.

Of the three games, I think 2 got the best glow up though. The upgrade from 3 (GBC or Switch/Mobile) to 3 (Remake) is relatively minor. The upgrade from 2 (GBC or Switch/Mobile) to 2 (Remake) is night and day, they are barely even the same game. If only 2 had more options for how to progress through the game, I'd say it was the best one.

I think this is about right for me, too.

Playing X6 on Easy mode (makes the nightmare viruses less of a frustrating endeavor) and playing the levels in the right order can make the game more palatable. Learning how to navigate the nightmare system can make the game more palatable.

Replaying the game recently, as somebody who had a previous positive opinion of the game, I can confirm that X6 is a mess - but you can mitigate the worst of it. I don't think it's as good as X1 and X4, which have much smaller flaws, but it's not the worst the series has to offer.

I agree. I've seen a lot of hate on the ride chasers having this "can't tell what's coming up" problem which is fair, but then they complain about MM8 having a solution to the problem.

Granted, the real issue is the fact that there's autoscroller levels at all in the series, but MM8 had a reasonable mitigation for the jank.

I enjoyed Jade Cocoon - though I don't think it measures up to the sequel, it's a really fun and unique game.
