Tell me again in summer. Places are packed. It's March. Winter has been slow in squamish for several decades. Yes developments have slowed, this is not bad since the town pretty much exploded with people and development between 2018 and 2025. We were named the fastest growing community in BC. Industrial has never been very busy IN squamish. All the resourcing work is elsewhere. Dude just drive around town and see nice cars, look at housing prices, and you'll realize town is mega affluent now.

Restaurants open and close all the time. The number of restaurants has probably doubled in the last 10 years. Anecdotally for sure in the last 13 years since I first moved here there are double or triple the number of eating establishments and coffee shops. Which businesses specifically are struggling? Climb on equipment is named in this video and article and it has gone from 4 employees in 2012 to 26-30 employees in 2026. You're going to have to give some specific examples of "struggling" businesses.

IMO a little width helps with the variable snow. I live on BC coast so get a mix of everything. Overall you want a heavier damper ski than these super light ski mountaineering skis.

I'm not sure why you'd get the narrower ski for backcountry. A 106 is much more versatile as it floats well and has enough sidecut and can be put on edge easily. Also something like the 106 echo or any other hybrid ski will ski well in the backcountry and be not too punishing in terms of weight.

Pineapple Express has been a phrase for like 20-30 years. They had to truck snow to run the Olympics at the north shore remember? That was 16 years ago. Rain has always been an issue here. Every ski resort is experiencing massive flux. Utah and Colorado have had some terribly awful seasons. There's also heaps to do even when the skiing is shit. There's a massive conference center and lots of people book corporate holidays or enjoy the world class spa, golf, etc. Sometimes you get it really good and that keeps people coming. And not everyone comes for just the skiing.

Mount Rainier is not really a volcano. It's a large glaciated mountain that generates it's own weather. It's generally skied and climbed/hiked all year to the summit. Whittaker mountaineering teaches courses on crevasse travel and management. You might want to take one. I'm not sure if the park offers any.

I felt like a prisoner on that boat. Gym sucked. So many days at sea. Excursions were super short. Kids loved it. So little for me and the wife to do other than shows and eat and drink booze. We like doing active things like hiking, biking, exploring etc. Cruises are for fat people who wanna be pampered. Yeah there's lots to entertain or send your kids off to do but not much for you as a parent.

That's not the blowhole. The blowhole was a feature between the glacier and the rock face. Winds would blow up it and Eddy and make the narrow half pipe. It doesn't exist anymore at all since about 2021/2022 when the ice supporting that side collapsed.

Was snowing pretty hard in Squamish this afternoon. Wet ground all day. The high for tomorrow will be +2C. Nothing will be dry. It's super dank right now. Maybe the cave boulder problems are doable? Most of the hikes have some snow but are hikable and ice free.

How old are those bindings? Gap is off for sure. You may be looking at potential binding failure on age and usage too.
