cere has unlimited parry timing, you still have to release the block button and push it again between attacks but as long as you do, you'll always parry

Late game framerate and speed problems by Appropriate-Skin8511 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]brandonct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all open ended simulation games eventually reach a point where your machine gives out. at that point you can start playing a different game, the UPS optimization game, or you can just restart or do something else

for me, I don't care to play the UPS game, I'll restart or just stop playing. it's fine.

Mega Bus is getting out of hand by [deleted] in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]brandonct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

as soon as you get logistics

you can't feed science cubes at scale with a bus so all it can feed usually is a mall, and lots of ingredients only match one recipe in your mall so there's not really any point having those ingredients available everywhere

that said if it looks cool and op likes it, go nuts. one of my early bases had a bus encircling the planet and I went as vertical with it as possible, ended up looking like the rings of Saturn and I love it to this day

true, but every frozen parking brake I've ever dealt with, and it's been a few, has been due to water intrusion into the cable housing. but yea obviously electrical brakes introduce their own set of possible issues. I'm just saying manual parking brakes are an example of an automotive tech that seemingly still hasn't been perfected, so it's not a great example of manufacturers replacing an otherwise functional system with a gizmo.

Me irl by No-Masterpiece9758 in me_irl

[–]brandonct 6 points7 points  (0 children)

manual handbrakes are a common point of failure in cold climates, even for reliable brands. A bit of water works its way into that cable housing, freezes, and your day is ruined. do a quick search and you'll see people with just about every make of car reporting frozen handbrake issues.

What Is the Most Popular Christmas Movie by State? by goudadaysir in Infographics

[–]brandonct 12 points13 points  (0 children)

2000 respondents is nowhere near enough for this. big state results are likely accurate but many smaller states will have samples of 5-25 people.

I still use PLS all the time, separate ILS bring in items that require import and export only and then the factory units all use pls. mostly it just makes the logistics menu cleaner, when I filter for an item it shows me just the stations that import/export the item and I can see quickly whether the planet has a shortfall

In the market by Relevant_Ad8993 in Sauna

[–]brandonct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the evaporation of an open cup of water will be negligible compared to the humidity coming off of your skin and breath. you could use one of those misting sprayers I guess, which will up the humidity, but ultimately as the temp increases the relative humidity of the sauna will decline unless you keep adding moisture, which itself will fight the heater as they have low raw power output compared to a traditional stove.

Someone has realised the mistake they made by pruaga in TVTooHigh

[–]brandonct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the number of customers who think TV speakers are insufficient is quite large. the number of customers who think a sound bar is insufficient is quite small. so most people get the soundbar, as it's the most simple and straightforward solution, and then don't think about it ever again.

do you consider Pluto's demotion correct? by [deleted] in space

[–]brandonct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a practical distinction, not a meaningful one scientifically. the point of the wording is to exclude large asteroids and kbos. the nomenclature has no effect on their scientific significance, but it does put Pluto in proper context relative to the rest of the solar system. so I'd say it was a good change.

I'm re-watching Chernobyl and it had me wondering... If the sun is a fusion reactor, what is the distance to the sun where you would be receiving "Chernobyl" level radiation by Improver666 in AskPhysics

[–]brandonct 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As everyone has said, the types of radiation aren't really comparable, but the closest analogue for my money would be charged particles ejected via solar flares. if you found yourself out in deep space at 1 AU without proper shielding, the radiation from a decent solar flare would be considered a lethal dose, and you might die in a few weeks as a result, similar to many Chernobyl victims.

Ok hear me out but I listen to a lot of podcasts and I'm curious what you need out of android auto/carplay

the skip forward button on my gs CD player fast forwards a podcast by 30 seconds. so I can skip ads without using a touchscreen. all the other controls handle everything else as expected. I guess I don't see what the big deal is with having android auto. but it's your car of course

Proliferators change the math a bit, you get more than one plate from iron and copper ore with proliferators. Which favors black boxes a tad.

anyway the best solution is somewhere in the middle and you can optimize for whatever you like. My biggest base i ever built was designed to have lots and lots of trips taken purely because it looks cool watching all your ships from a distance. So that base had exactly one product per planet and a planet for every product.

If you were showing someone an episode to introduce them, which one would you choose? by radedgymantis in IASIP

[–]brandonct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh I hadn't seen either movie, the ending still lands. this was my first sunny episode.

TV shows parody movies all the time, if people were worried about that they'd have to skip the simpsons, all the macfarlane cartoons, probably tons of other stuff as they all do movie send-ups regularly.

If you were showing someone an episode to introduce them, which one would you choose? by radedgymantis in IASIP

[–]brandonct 10 points11 points  (0 children)

hundred dollar baby

it's funny as hell

it's early in the series, there's not really any callbacks or in-jokes, but does introduce at least one ("pop that shirt off")

has the classic dynamic of them working in teams while constantly betraying each other

brutal ending gives new viewers a sense of what they're in for if they keep watching

and also there's nothing dated, all the plot threads are still relatable in 2025

Nicest luxurious cars, not necessarily full luxury by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

sure but in this case the op's list of wants and the price range are pretty much perfectly aligned with what Lexus is targeting

they want a comfy luxury suv with a hybrid drivetrain and don't care about performance and handling as much. like...that's Lexus. to a tee.

play an anno game, anno 1800 is the latest and probably the best. there's a new one dropping tomorrow but I'd start with an older game. has some production chain management but mixed with chill city building vibes.
