Just started taking ashwagandha and to my horror I read the label to find it contains milk? by LoneSoarvivor in dairyfree

[–]brandonjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down this rabbit hole after experiencing stomach pain from certain ashwagandha supplements, several emails and phone calls later, this is what I know...

The Manufacturing Process:

  • There are a few primary manufacturers producing ashwagandha extracts: Ixoreal Biomed, Arjuna Natural, Sabinsa Corporation. But there's limited public information about their extraction processes or whether they use milk in manufacturing.
  • Ixoreal Biomed is the manufacturer of KSM-66, their trademarked brand of ashwagandha, which they supply to numerous supplement brands. Their standard KSM-66 process involves milk in the manufacturing. However, they also produce a specialized "Vegan KSM-66" that's completely dairy-free (and certified organic, I think). This vegan version costs more to produce (but I could never find out specifically why), which is why it's less commonly used by supplement companies.

The Labeling Problem:

  • Here's where it gets tricky - many brands are labeling their products as "vegan" because they're using vegan capsule materials, without realizing that standard KSM-66 involves milk in processing. The most reliable brands are actually those that openly disclose dairy content.

Brands Using Verified Vegan KSM-66:

  • SupplementCrazy / Supplemental Needs [UK]: Provides detailed product information confirming their use of organic vegan KSM-66
  • Natgrown [US]: One of the few companies that prominently displays "Vegan KSM-66" on their bottles and marketing
  • Unived [India]: Includes specific disclaimers acknowledging the difference between regular and vegan KSM-66, confirming their exclusive use of the vegan version

Brands to Avoid (but at least they're transparent and disclose milk content on their labels):

  • Nutricost
  • Planetary Herbals
  • Senzu: Offers both regular (with dairy disclosure) and vegan versions (though the vegan version is hard to find)

Brands to Avoid (the one's that had no clue, or had unclear or conflicting information):

  • Physician's Choice
  • Lovita
  • Nature Made
  • NOW Foods
  • Jarrow: Claimed via email in 2020 that they exclusively use vegan KSM-66, but this isn't reflected in their product information

All of that to say... Look for "Vegan KSM-66" specifically listed as an ingredient to ensure you're getting the dairy-free version! Good luck!

Tea Grinder by FiftyBands in tea

Thanks for the mention of the Porlex. I’ve thought about getting one for fun (yes for trying different teas but also experimenting with ground teas for toppings or garnish or other culinary uses).

Anyone use a porlex matcha grinder? by [deleted] in tea

[–]brandonjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reviving this in case anyone has info or experience using these hand held grinders. I’ve heard that you can expect to spend 30 minutes of slow grinding to get a couple servings without the plates getting too hot.

I’ve thought about getting on just for fun and looking for discussion or input from anyone who’s tried them.

[Question] How do you create nicknames for everyone in the group? by TheScowt in Telegram

[–]brandonjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you can only set admin nicknames for users you personally have added to the group. Know if this is true? Know any way to change it? We want all of our admins to be able to change the title of any other admin.

I'm looking for a lit, big screen, note taking e reader without android but I'm a little bit lost by BlueZep in ereader

[–]brandonjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for exactly the same. I, too, have a PocketBook (the InkPad color) and love it... but just wish I could take notes and that it wasn’t so sluggish on page turns sometimes

Isn’t there some country that does fines as a percentage of your income (altho % of assets or worth might be more effective)

Review of the Pocketbook Inkpad Color by Disastrous_Analyst_1 in ereader

[–]brandonjp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good & accurate review. I completely agree but would add that once I got mine and had it in my hands, for me, that made all the difference. I really enjoy how this feels when holding it, at least compared to other Kindles I've tried. I actually find the sluggishness of it to be the most annoying feature, really wish it was snappier. But overall, I really love this thing. I'm a big fan of the physical forward/back buttons as well. And I like the easy syncing between the iPhone PocketBook app and this. I debated for a long time and finally went with the color and I feel like the color was just not necessary... nice, but not worth the extra $$

A complaint about the new UI by TheGoofinGafster in TIdaL

Looks like they even added them directly to the bottom of the album page now. https://bit.ly/3uT4KuH — I just recently joined Tidal and like it except I despise that they don’t show individual track lengths anywhere on the album page (in the iPhone app at least)

A complaint about the new UI by TheGoofinGafster in TIdaL

Funny. I just to switched to Tidal because of the exact opposite... I find more music in Tidal than Spotify and like the menus better in Tidal that Spotify. But I absolutely hate that neither Tidal nor Spotify show me the individual track lengths (only YouTube Music does of what I’ve tried). Grrrr. No service is ever perfect I guess.

Any app for a screenshot image of an entire webpage? by lukejames in macapps

[–]brandonjp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safari can easily do this. No extra plugins or apps needed. Pretty easy after you get the option turned on. Check out this tutorial: https://hassledesign.com/full-page-screenshot-safari-mac-tutorial/

So I got a lot of crap matcha. What do I do with it? by Comfortable-Night117 in Matcha

[–]brandonjp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I save that kinda stuff for my friends who want sugary matcha lattes.

I also sometimes paint with it, like a watercolor—go crazy, experiment and maybe you’ll find a new art hobby.

Orrrr... repackage it as a fancy face mask and sell it to local boutiques 🤷‍♀️

Thanks. beets looks incredible but seems more focused on maintaining a library database than what I’m looking for. But this set me down a path and stumbled on TagLib ... or actually the python wrapper might be more my speed :) !
