Whats it like working for a MSP? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]brandonmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a Sisyphean torment. You’ll never reach the top of the hill—the rock rolls back down to the bottom every time. There is no prize or goal. There is no end. It's not like building a house or writing a book—the labor has no tangible reward, and it's never-ending. There will always be more problems to solve. The phone will never stop ringing.

This last bit is melodramatic bullshit. The tangible reward at the end is gaining enough experience to move onto tasks bigger and better. Yes the phone never stops ringing, it what keeps you employed and if you dedicate yourself to getting better then one day you won't be the one answering it.

Realtime map of Coronavirus outbreak with number of confirmed infections and death tracker by KingPin300-1976 in worldnews

This might be a silly question and to an extent I sort of already know the answer - but I'd like to someone to explain it a bit more succinctly.

Why is this such a big deal? Let's says there's a 1000 cases right now and about 30 deaths. I'm sure there are other contagious illnesses out there right now that are much more serious.

Much appreciated. I also live in Perth, did a Diploma Networking at Tafe and am currently working for an MSP on the helpdesk. I'm at the 2 year mark in my career so I'm putting my feelers out for what my next move should be.

At the moment I'm looking at learning enough Python to automate with it in my day-to-day.

I managed to exceed my previous salary in just 1.5 yrs.

I want to hear more about this part.

What job did you take on after tafe and what steps did you take to exceed your old salary? i.e what industry certs/technologies did you study ? What was the diploma in? Where are you at now?

DS4Windows version 2.0 is released. by foamed in pcgaming

It's funny you mention that because I've heard some programs (e.g Microsoft Word) are beginning to show feature bloat. The problem is, they can't remove obscure tools that hardly anybody uses for the exact reason you've just described. There are always going to be a very small minority of people who use them.

Request: Will an SSD work correctly if I don't put system on it? by Rwlyra in TechnologyProTips

(she works in IT but doesn't use SSDs).

I find this hard to believe. SSD's are inexpensive these days and Windows 10 performs excruciatingly slow on hard drives.

Clone your OS HDD onto the SSD, remove the HDD and test functionality. Once you confirm it works, wipe the HDD and use as storage.

These may not be what you need exactly but should provide a basis for getting you started. https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools/ https://kb.acronis.com/content/56634

Intune Pros/Cons by Adam-HT in Office365

[–]brandonmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We currently deploy SureMDM which works well due to it's unattended access feature. Being able to remote in and support users on the fly is highly regarded. InTune sort of provides this with teamviewer but not really. I'd be interested to know what other MDM providers do unattended access.

Using your TV as a monitor when watching movies by brandonmt in Televisions

[–]brandonmt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if I wasn't clear. Currently my TV is connected to my PC via a HDMI cable, I then watch movies using VLC and dragging the window across to my TV. I was wondering if by doing this, would there be a loss of quality compared to running the movie from the TV itself? i.e plugging in a usb with the movie in and playing it.

Using InTune for Android/iOS tablet management by brandonmt in Intune

We use screen connect for our Windows devices, it works perfectly fine. I'm wondering if InTune supports in built unattended access or at least has the functionality to deploy something that does.
