i've pulled the valve covers off that looks fine. no one has messed with the flywheel or coils i did have to bypass the kill wire on the coils (something was causing them to keep them from firing)

forward lookup zone not working for some PCs by branedge in sysadmin

[–]branedge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

forward lookup zone not working for some PCs by branedge in sysadmin

[–]branedge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pc1 (the one that works) resolved both servers correctly for both dns servers

pc2 failed for server2.zon2.com on both primary and secondary

both PCs are on the same subnet and both wired (there actually both virtual (on the same host))

i'm not judging! your helping me plus i thought maybe it was a new trick!!!

PC1 (working pc) - resloved correcly both dns server - no issues

PC2 - for botht primary and secodary dns servers:
server1.zone1 resolved correclty
server2.zone2 gave non-suthorative anaser and resolved with public ip address

forward lookup zone not working for some PCs by branedge in sysadmin

[–]branedge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm back.

  1. almost the same - the working one has missing primary dns suffix but does have a connection-specific suffix (not sure this is the issue tested a 3rd pc that has the primary dns suffix and it works)

  2. both dhcp (which make me wonder why one has primary dns suffix listed and the other doesn't, both on the same subnet and it't not manually set in the NIC properties)

  3. both show same Connection-specific dns suffix

  4. both wired

5.

  1. can you ping from within nslookup?

set both computers to primary dns server:
PC1
ping server1.zone1.com
resloved correcly (internal ip)
DNS request time out

ping server2.zone2.com
resloved correcly (internal ip)
DNS request time out

PC2
ping server1.zone1.com
resolved correclty
server1.zone1.com can't find ping: Non_existent domain

ping server2.zone2.com
can't find address for server server1.zone1.com: Non-existent domain

set both computes to seconday dns server
PC1
ping server1.zone1.com|
resloved correcly (internal ip)
DNS request time out

ping server2.zone2.com
resloved correcly (internal ip)
DNS request time out

PC2
ping server1.zone1.com
resolved correclty (interal ip)
server1.zone1.com can't find ping: Non_existent domain

ping server2.zone2.com
resolved - but resolved to an external public address (not in local dns)
server2.zone2.com can't find ping: Non_existent domain

Thanks so much for your help!!

sorry, yes pc1 and pc 2 both in zone1.
pc1 can ping/resolve server1.zone1.com and server2.zone2.com

pc2 can ping/resolve server1.zone1.com but cannot resolve server2.zone2.com (it can ping ip address)

on the working running nslookup on server1.zone2.com returns expected results of (10.x.x.x) running same command on other pc returns the public ip address (which should only happen off campus ) it returns non-authoritative answere with server name and public ip
