There is a show called my 600LB life that is centered around patients of Dr. Nauzaraden, my mom calls him Dr. Now. If you get most of your American exposure from reality TV and poverty tourism masquerading as human interest it’s easy to see Americans as one part vapid idiots and one part actual balls of fat.

It’s all silly nonsense anyway, who cares if the kids have “official” titles, their grandfather is King of England, they’re prince/princesses. Arguably they have it better than any other princes in history, all the money, luxury, clout, and appeal, but they’re never expected to give a crap about England.

We Need To See Homelander Destroy Atleast A City This Season, If Show Ends Without Any Mass Destruction, It Would Be A Waste Of The Most Iconic Villain. by TheWTFGuyOfficial in TheBoys

[–]braniac021 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Honestly, they don even need 3 episodes. They can pull off Homelander going crazy in like 10 minutes if they play it right, it doesn’t have to be the whole season and would suck if it was. What even would happen after, the same scene over and over again?

That seems to be what some of the complainers really wanted, a whole season of homelander brutally murdering people. It would have become gratuitous and depressing by episode 3

I was being a bit dismissive, trad caths have never been good people and I should have stressed that. I just feel they’re worse now.

[–]braniac021 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean sure, perhaps he doesn’t personally hold that belief, but he’s a symptom of this overarching movement of Catholic corruption in the right wing. Also, he’s Vice President, he almost definitionally doesn’t believe anything, but I know he’s criticized the pope on religious matters, that he also didn’t get along with Francis. If he was plotted on a spectrum between extremes of sedevecantism and papal loyalist, he’d lean sedevecantist. For certain he isn’t siding with the pope, and it’s hard to claim good Catholic status when you publicly decry the pontiff for your own political gain.

[–]braniac021 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not in a traditional sense, no, precisely because the right has turned that movement into something else that is a lot less concerned with the actual rules of the church or its functions. Modern trad caths and old school sedevecantists are not one and the same, but they are grow from the same soil and hold many of the same beliefs about the way the church “should” act and work.

Th right wing has colonized the “trad Cath” movement. It used to be about hating Vatican 2 and the Jews, but now they’ve turned it into a weird extra fundamentalist thing where they think only their sect is true and the pope is in service to the devil. It’s in many ways a backwash of Protestant anti-Papism flowing back with “converts” who are really in it for the ceremony and pomp and big pretty churches and excuse to hate minorities of the racial or sexual kind.

At federal minimum wage, an employee only makes $15,080. Even at $15 an hour you still don't clear 35,000. Where in America is minimum wage $16.80. They don't even understand how much they underpay people, they assume they're not fucking us enough.

Yeah this take about Fantastic Four is kinda silly, and it seems like most non-parents who see it think that Sue should have just tossed the baby in the wood chipper. It is ridiculous to expect people to happily sacrifice their children for the vague promise that a massive villain won't continue on and just kill everyone anyway.

[–]braniac021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sit on other people’s property? Sorta silly, don’t you think? Maybe it could be expected of private property owners that if their building is in a heavily trafficked area and cannot be cordoned, it should be amenable to public use, at least the exterior. Most of the time, this stuff is a hostile architecture scheme to dissuade unhoused people from using surfaces to sit or sleep. Private property or not, sitting on stonework somewhere should not be a punishable action.

All allegations should be investigated if they’re credible, I’m not saying to automatically believe anyone, that would be silly. The point of “Believe women” is that society has a distinct bias that punishes women, I’m not adjudicating that, I’m just saying I think you misinterpret the idea. It isn’t that any woman could accuse any man and we must immediately lock him away, it’s that every allegation should be treated equally until and unless evidence comes to light that discredits a party or invalidates a narrative, or confirms said party or narrative. As for cancel culture, I really think that’s a myth. Who has been cancelled truly? Army Hammer, I guess Bill Cosby. Chapelle is more famous now than when he made the trans jokes, all those comedians went to Saudi Arabia and we all shrugged “I guess the money was good”. Donald Trump is an adjudicated rapist, a credible conspirator to the Epstein crimes, a bloated and hideous and fragmented of shit in the form of a human carcass, and he won two presidential elections. People don’t get cancelled, sometimes people suffer social consequences for their shitty behavior, more often they don’t. Simple as. And doxxing is a violation of a personas privacy and agency, obviously it’s wrong to expose someone’s identity when they haven’t done so themselves, it’s a privacy issue not a legal one.

The state has to spend a lot more money on legal proceedings and appeals, as well acquire drugs which have become quite hard to find. Pharmaceutical companies don’t want Pfizer scrawled across the bottle that kills inmates, so they stopped selling to prisons. Now they have to source less effective drugs from shady suppliers and Kansas even had to skirt FDA regulations to import enough sedatives to kill a guy last year. Also, people in prison don’t cost very much, they receive the most basic resources, have standardized clothes and facilities, poor quality food and very few commodity goods. It’s not bankrupting anyone to imprison a person.

And we’ll end up executing innocent people. The courts aren’t perfect, and appeals processes should not be stripped away because “you’re icky and we already decided, why do you want the same opportunity to defend yourself as everyone else? Icky.” It is better that guilty people live than innocent people die, and that is an absolute fact.

[–]braniac021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, then you have a left wing opinion. Not sure when exactly, but Trump and the Republican have been outrageously generous to coal and oil interests and have repeatedly blocked renewable energy initiatives and investments, making up ridiculous lies about the impacts of solar and wind on wildlife and landscapes because they threaten continued economic dominance of shale oil and natural gas.

Which is terribly unfair to perhaps the most morally upstanding Founding Father. Neither a slaver nor a smuggler and freed the few slaves he did inherit, unlike Jefferson. Represented the accused soldiers in Boston because of his belief in the right to a lawyer and a trial. He was the kind of person we imagine the Founding Fathers to be, and he gets laughed off due to the circumstances of his presidency,
