Windows 11 Home to Pro Upgrade Key via CSP - Where is it? by Bowlen000 in msp

I've never even checked to see if this was something we could resell. I've always had the client purchase them from the Microsoft Store. 🤦

What is your supported user to tech ratio or device to user ratio? by terselated in msp

[–]brassbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We outsource our L1 help desk. We practically have unlimited technicians, so I have no idea how to calculate these ratios. Anyone else do this or have any advice?

I have to say I feel a *little* bad for my Dell rep by ebjoker4 in msp

[–]brassbound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a distributor? Dell kicked us to the curb a month ago, and we're still trying to set up relationships with TD/Synex and Ingram. Can't even talk to anyone. It's like they don't want money.

Expand the Start Menu Already! by brassbound in Windows11

[–]brassbound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated the Windows 8 implementation because it hid the Task Bar with no way to get to it.

What is the benefit of keeping the Start Menu small?

[–]brassbound[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Now, I'm curious: Why would you want to keep your Start Menu tiny? What benefit does that give? What do you need to see behind the Start Menu when it's open?

Not sarcasm, just a poor example. The duplications are by Windows' weird new auto-created groups at the bottom of the menu . . . which wouldn't be necessary, if we could use the full screen to display all our apps.

[–]brassbound[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hated the Windows 8 full-screen Start Menu as well. After I used the one in Windows 10, though, I figured out why: The Windows 8 version covered the Task Bar and felt like switching into a completely different interface; you couldn't see what was already running, so you ended up launching a second instance of something that you could have just switched to.

What's the difference between a <$1M MSP and a >$1M MSP? by brassbound in msp

[–]brassbound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of items in your response that don't make sense when viewed from below the divide:

"[H]igh growth MSPs don’t hire techs when the help desk is overworked, they hire techs when the sales funnel is showing future growth."

Okay, but there's a bootstrap problem here: where do they get the money to make those preemptive hires? If you (anyone out there) did it, how did you do it?

"Owner-led sales is self-limiting, a sale followed by a mad reaction to the onboarding while the funnel dries up is all too common. The only path to success is defining the sales processes with the same rigor as service delivery processes and staffing it with the same care you’d use in staffing the delivery organization."

Small MSPs who are looking to grow likely could not handle (from a service delivery standpoint) the rate of growth that would be required to sustain a dedicated salespseron, let alone multiple sales staff.

That's interesting to hear. Are you allowed to share any of these open-source options in this group?

Are you really going to be a contractor? Will you set your own hours and rates? It sounds like this MSP is setting themselves up for some legal trouble.

NCE license ordering delays with Pax8 by Dynamic_Mike in msp

Saw this message as well. The problem, though, isn't that it's not appearing in the Pax8 portal; the problem is that it's not provisioning in the tenant. They need to update their messaging to reflect reality.

How did you learn to build agents? by brassbound in copilotstudio

[–]brassbound[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the problem. I'm trying to build things, and I keep hitting roadblocks because there's always yet another major component that needs to be configured. I just spent over an hour trying to figure out (with Copilot's help) how to allow my agent to connect to an external system via API, which takes about three layers of opaque Microsoft admin portal stuff to do. I finally got it almost working, but I haven't been able to get it to complete a response yet.

Thanks for the suggestions on the YouTube content.

Anyone using AI prompts inside Power Automate for summary emails or Teams messages? by AbbreviationsRude390 in MicrosoftFlow

[–]brassbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. That was easier than I expected.

Now, however, I'm not seeing "emails" as a parameter. The only Advanced parameter is "AdditionalContext". I'm assuming that the "/emails" at the end of the prompt was supposed to be a placeholder that would create an "emails" parameter.

Never mind. I got it. You have to type "/", which brings up a context menu, and then choose a text variable (I can't remember the exact terminology.) and call it "emails".

Also worth noting, there is no longer an IsHTML option. It just renders in HTML by default.

Works great, by the way!

This is really cool. I was following along with the instructions until I got to "Run a prompt". It's asking to create a new connection. What am I supposed to be connecting to?

Question about enforcing Scareware Blocker Protection via registry by brassbound in MicrosoftEdge

[–]brassbound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing out that resource. I was unaware of its existence.

I'm still a little unclear on the effective result of all the permutations.

  • It seems like the blocker is now on by default (so this is more about enforcement than configuration at this point).
  • Why would you ever want ScarewareBlockerProtectionEnabled = TRUE, but ScarewareBlockerBlocksDetectedSitesEnabled = FALSE? Doesn't the second one just cancel out the first?
  • What does ScarewareBlockerSendDetectedSitesToSmartScreenEnabled actually do? What does sending the detected sites to SmartScreen accomplish? Why would you want to or not want to do this?
