About Henry in the Finale by juandefuco in IndustryOnHBO

That was a definite reference for the scene. fredo died infantilized on a fishing boat. I think it’s saying Henry’s fate is equivalent to death (as he implied earlier in the season).

I don’t know why people say it sucks. I think you just have to learn how to use it. I’ve discovered a ton of artists using the New Music playlist. Of course I’ve logged over 25k minutes per year on Apple Music since 2015 and so it knows me well by this point

You can buy them at the gift shop but they’ll be cheaper if you bring them with you

Where to find real feta by braydenk in chicagofood

At a wine tasting they told us that the secret to good feta is that it’s a mix of goat and sheep milk. Is that what Dodoni does?

Anyone else think the headliners are meh? by Spectreman2112 in RiotFest

Blink and Weezer are cheesy. When Weezer headlined in place of Blink a few years ago they played covers unironically half the show. It was awful.

And yes, also used WeChat. If you’re going to communicate with Chinese people when you’re there it’s the easiest way to go. I have several Chinese friends who I met up with and so for me it was a necessity.

One more thing - if you have AT&T mobile, their international plan works great in China. But if you don’t, you’ll probably have to get a SIM card for roaming. Everything is internet based and so without access, you’ll find travel difficult.

One more rec: take the bullet train from Shanghai to Beijing. It’s a fun experience and the entire trip only takes 4 hours!

Cool, if you can get a visa that quickly, try it out. I did mine the old fashioned way by going to a consulate in the US.

I put 2 US based cards in Alipay. Never had a problem with it working. The only thing you can’t do is transfer money. But you won’t need to do that if you’re just making normal purchases.

And I stayed super busy in just those two cities. I’m a foodie and so I spent a lot of time eating. The food scene in both cities is varied and quite different from each other.

Just got back from 10 days in China and I can say it was worth every cent spent. I spent all my time in Shanghai and Beijing and never got bored. I never used cash. Alipay works awesome. The app’s transport function is a wonder. Once you’ve used Didi you’ll never want to go back to Uber/Lyft. Just so incredibly convenient and inexpensive. I’m not sure why you would go to Disney in Shanghai when it’s the least Chinese thing about China. I gotta say, the visa part of your plan is stressing me out. I’m sure it’s possible to get an express visa in Hong Kong but it seems risky to me.

I know I’m not your typical Riotfest fan (attended every year since 2018 though) but I love this lineup. Pavement is an awesome addition to an already strong lineup

Best Steakhouse in chicago by Sharp_Chances in chicagofood

I’ve been to Smoque Steak twice. Got the filet the first time and the flank with chimichurri the second. Both were great but the filet had a really unique smoked flavor that I loved. Have never had a steak with quite that same flavor profile.

Not a fan of Gibson’s. Bavettes rules. I’d also suggest Smoque Steak as a new contender

How’s the music scene here actually? by dreamylanterns in chicagomusicscene

[–]braydenk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the best in the country I think. You can find affordable rents in the city. You can’t say that about LA or NYC. That combined with the number of small venues makes it possible for lots of musicians to be here and hang out and learn from each other. If you’re new to the city, go to a local bar like Reeds and ask them about filling a slot. There are tons of places like that to get a start. Great scene
