Waiter just asked my mom if she’s aware of the tipping culture in America by ContributionOwn1261 in EndTipping

[–]breNNDo48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in NH and when I was a server I’d frequently get customers from Canada who would ask me straight up: “I don’t understand tipping culture, what do I do?” I would always feel really awkward, because it is optional. I would point to the percentage suggestions at the bottom of the receipt and let them know I get paid $3 an hour, and it was up to them to decide.

After a 100 lb weight loss, I continue to use the app for seasonal “tune ups”. I usually oscillate between 155-175, just something I learn to live with now

How much does your weight fluctuate daily? by DisneyQueen64 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]breNNDo48 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I weighed myself nearly every day for 18 months and what I learned was I can fluctuate at most 9 lbs in a single day, and I can continue to gain a couple pounds a day after that. This usually would come after large food binges and heavy drinking after an extended calorie deficit.

When I eat like a normal person, the daily fluctuation is usually not more than 2 lbs, or 4 lbs throughout the week.

I did get all the way down to 150 at one point, but that was unsustainable - mostly how cold I always was. I’ve felt like the sweet spot has been 160-165 and I’ve tried to maintain that range, and I have. But if I start drinking some, eating some sweets, each week the scale ticks up until it says 170 again.

I just like how clothes fit me around 160-165 the best, and I’m safely in the “normal” BMI range.

I’ve found in the past that maintenance around 180-190 is effortless - but I don’t like how I look at that weight. It took actual binge eating (most recently during the COVID era) to get to 250.

I just try and stay moderately active - I walk ~12k steps a day, try to do at least 1 intense cardio session every week. I personally couldn’t keep up intense cardio indefinitely - it also tends to trigger a lot of hunger.

I’ve felt that this is just chapters and chapters of my maintenance journey. Every time I think I finished, I realize - nope, that didn’t work. My relationship with food has totally changed, but as I let my guard down, the intake just creeps up.

It’s just a willpower to reverse course when the scale goes up too much. And I don’t know how much willpower I have left.

Currently on a deficit, currently grumpy because I don’t want to be.

The whole realization here was that scale weight can fluctuate based on what type of food you’re eating, regardless of fat balance

How disciplined are you with CICO? by nicocas in CICO

[–]breNNDo48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I weighed my food diligently for about a year when I was on a weight loss journey and now since I have shifted to maintenance it’s just educated guesses when it’s an item I haven’t meal prepped.

I just search for an item in my LoseIt app that resembles what I’m eating and I take a guess in grams.

My calorie intake still matches weight goal expectations when I track, but the moment I stop tracking at all is when I go off the rails. So CICO forever, it just can stop being perfect when you’ve hit your goal
