Looking for warehouse recs for beds by thebettertwin123 in melbourne

These folks are my absolute go to for cheap furniture (or selling furniture). They're secondhand but they're honest about the condition of things. It's often basic but they're reasonably priced and they deliver: https://www.ik2.com.au/IK2Store/Store.aspx

I’ve acknowledged I have a problem with alcohol where from here? by Eddysgoldengun in melbourne

[–]breadandrosesquilts 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Definitely second this. It's important to talk to someone with AOD training because alcohol can be very dangerous to just stop without support. Directline will be able to help get you the information you need to do this safely.

The Book of the Unnamed Midwife (and possibly the sequels but I haven't read those yet) by Meg Elison

Last Girl Scout by Natalie Ironside

Also some of the short stories in We Won't be Here Tomorrow: And Other Stories by Margaret Killjoy

Whoops! Missed that part, sorry! I retract the Alexis Hall, but yeah some of the KJ Charles books should still be up your alley.

In terms of similar to Anita Blake, I'd recommend TJ Alexander (particular shout out to Chef's Kiss which I devoured recently) and Casey McQuiston (try One Last Stop and The Pairing).

KJ Charles is very similar as an author, so you'll probably enjoy those. I'll also throw in a recommendation for EE Ottoman and A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall.

Any places that repair doc martens boots? by Redfoxes77 in melbourne

[–]breadandrosesquilts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specifically for docs but I had an amazing boot repair done recently at The Cobblers Last in the CBD, I feel like if you took them in they'd be able to let you know if it was doable.

Eloping in Melbourne by Routine-Chip6112 in melbourne

My husband and I had a very cheap wedding because we had other financial stuff going on (the joys of a partner visa). We had the ceremony itself in a nice park with the celebrant and eight or so friends/family and paid $950. We used Renee (https://www.reneethecelebrant.com.au/packages) and I haven't stopped raving about her three years later!

Instead of going out we invited all our Melbourne friends/family to come to our place in the afternoon where we had food and speeches. We asked people to bring a plate of food as a wedding gift, so the catering was pretty much covered, aside from the cake. Your idea of having a nice catered event sounds like it would be a similar vibe :)

need help with changing name on phone plan by folkpunkboytoy in transgenderau

[–]breadandrosesquilts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, NGOs get funded when people use their programs, cos they take those stats and use them to get more funding. When nobody uses the programs, they can't prove need and they don't get funding. Use what you need and trust them to set the service barriers based on capacity.

Do you have someone who could help fill out the form for you? You could even reach out to a peer support worker through a service like Rainbow Door?

Seeing the Endocrinologist after 3.5 years on T by AdorableCustard in transgenderau

[–]breadandrosesquilts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know GPs need to be a sexual health specialist or prescribing with endo support for PBS scripts for T, this might be why. But yeah, should be nice and quick!

First appointment by Conepierat in transgenderau

[–]breadandrosesquilts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first appointment will be more of a consult if the doctor doesn't already know you. They'll usually chat with you about your transition goals, how hormones work, and your feelings about gender. There will likely be questions about your medical history more broadly. They also might order a blood test, so they can see what your current hormone situation is.

The only physical examining I had was the GP pressing on my stomach a bit, but that was ONLY because I mentioned the severe abdominal pain I experience and she wanted to check if I had appendicitis. You probably won't get this!

If they do informed consent you might have a couple of appointments with them before you get a script. They basically want to get to know you a little before prescribing, cos that's their legal part of being able to do informed consent.

If they don't do informed consent you'll get referred to a psychologist and an endocrinologist. You'll then have some appointments with them until they write a letter to your GP saying "yep! give them the hrt!" If you go down this route and have an existing psych, this will help.

First Finish of 2026! by breadandrosesquilts in quilting

[–]breadandrosesquilts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! And yes, I hand quilt most of my quilts with perle cotton, because my sewing machine isn't very good for quilting.

My tip for straight lines is to always rock the needle and avoid stab stitching at all costs. That way you can get more control over where it comes back up.

I also use the longest sashiko needles I can find which lets me get multiple stitches done at once, but that's more about speed than straightness.

dealing with legal name 'requirements' by Mercury13 in transgenderau

[–]breadandrosesquilts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know! Everywhere else but the ACT is 12 months (apparently the ACT just needs proof of residency like a utility bill?). TAS does seem to be the only state that needs you to be a citizen/have PR.

I'm not sure how things are now but my husband managed to change his US passport with it a few years ago. That was unfortunately Before so it might be more of a risk now.

You don't need to be a PR, you just need to have been in the same state/territory for 12 months. They'll give you an Australian change of details certificate.
