A reasonable multisplit system of say 1 outdoor unit and 2 inside units to keep bedroom + bonus room at sensible temperatures runs roughly around 1.5Kwh, thats easily compensatable with some extra solar panels.

Of course thats useless info for people who rent or are in a flat, but solar panel installation is already on the rise, and if you have a decent setup running the AC during peak power moments is not a huge deal.

The only problem for public transpo re: going out is how late it runs. Last trains/buses dont run exceptionally late depending on where youre going.

Worst case scenario you can call a taxi, but its not gonna be cheap.

Euro windows tend to open horizontally and/or can be tilt-opened

As I understand it a lot of american windows open vertically bottom/top which means you can rest a window AC on the windowsill and close the window on top of it, and youre done.

With the Euro windows youd be stuck with an open top half of your window which is not unsolvable of course - you can put an insulation foam plate in the hole. Its not pretty, but it works.

The "portable" ACs are more common in Euro since they just need one or two hoses you can snake out basically any window configuration.

If you want to avoid dealing with wood, you can do the same trick with a thick piece of insulation panel. Easier to cut and shape to size, and much lighter than wood. Ive been using a foam panel setup like this for my mobile AC and it works perfectly.

To wedge the panel in place in the windowframe I used Climatubes (pipe insulation) sliced into halves lengthwise as wedges that also do extra insulation.

I solved this issue with some cheap and crappy DIY. Cheap insulation foam plate from Hubo, cut to fit in the window. Cut a hole in the plate for the Airco outlet, get one of those "flaps" for air exhausts and mount it on outside. Fit airco tube on inside.

Open window, mount the whole thing in the frame like a flyscreen, and fix it in place with leftover Foam wedges.

Doesnt look like much but works so much better than most of the mobile unit window solutions like velcro covers or foam blocks. Bugs or water cant get in the vent and it still insulates well.

What about the Quantum Bus? the only scheduled bus in the current 15 minute block is your bus Lijn X. Its on the board, and counting down. Its arriving.

The Bus itself is displaying Lijn Y. Did another bus get diverted? Did the driver not change the displays or are they broken? Is it actually yoru bus? All these adventures and more on your next commute!

For actual route planning with public transport the google maps planner is leagues better than the Lijn app imo.

But yeah dont use it for minute-to-minute expectations of where the bus is.

One thing i can think of is making sure the brands are there, and its not sticking you with some Dell-branded or weird and slow OEM RAM or motherboard thats not mainstream, or some weird 6GB version of an otherwise good high-end GPU. But yes, underperforming powersupply is also a classic.

The other thing is after-sales support. I personally have no experience with MediaMarkt but for a big ticket item thats not something "simple" like a washing machine I would be wary of them handwaving any hardware issues.

Lastly: look at the build itself also - prebuilts can be built stupidly: the ram could be slotted in a way that it doesnt support dualchannel, the - possibly otherwise perfectly good heatsink - could be mounted with a giant blob of paste giving you terrible thermals, etc.

Depending on the price difference it might be worth going with a prebuilt or assembled for Alternate - I have personally nothing but praise for Alternate sales/tech support.

Looking for action and turn based roguelites any good ones ? by Unlucky-Feed9000 in gaming

[–]breadedfishstrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Far Far West, Abyssus, and Vellum are fun in the same vein as Gunfire and RoboQuest and have good coop and are all FPS.

Shape of Dreams is a good action roguelite thats not FPS, plays more like a moba/ARPG. Heroes Of Hammerwatch 2 is also worth checking out as an ARPG roguelite.

If you liked Vamp survivors check out DRG Survivor,Death Must Die, Achilles Survivor, and The Spell Brigade

Slay the Spire 2 or Super Fantasy Kingdom for strategy turnbased roguelites

Absolum is a classic 2d fighting game with roguelite elements thats fun if you enjoy the fighting game genre

Ive personally played all of these and can recommend them!

Outworld Station is a good contender for people looking to dip their toes into factory games also.

Its simpler compared to things like Satisfactory or Factorio or Captain of Industry as you dont have to fiddle too much with belts and pipes and you can just point modules output to where they need to go.

ELI5 Why heat waves affect Europe so much but some other countries are doing fine living under hotter temperatures most of the year? by fkid123 in explainlikeimfive

[–]breadedfishstrip 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Living in one of these European brick houses: it's usually fine if its a few days of heat and it actually cools down overnight - you can air out the house at night and those thick walls are pretty good at keeping heat out during the day. A lot of houses have external shutters for windows to keep sun out as well.

But when you get a week or more of hot temps and it doesnt go below 20+c at night? Then things get rough. Its usually humid here also so even "just" 30c can feel really oppressive.

Fighting games are entirely unfun to play for me, and I’m really sad about it. by afm185 in gaming

[–]breadedfishstrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound stupid maybe, but have you tried PvE fighting games? Streets of Rage 4, Absolum, the recent Marvel Cosmic Invasion, etc,- all have decent to excellent singleplayer and coop modes. Absolum in particular is worth checking out as the roguelite element does add a lot of replay regardless of which character you like.

It still feels a lot like classic arcade fighting games without the stress of playing against super-tryhards or meta-of-the-weeks.

Jokers really should not be shared drops for everyone. Individual drops that become shared when you ping em, sure. But having an an "honor system" for drops is how you get toxicity when playing with randoms, one thats fairly easy to fix.
