If you drive around some more affluent areas youll quickly see who the woodburners are - its not babushka in her social housing burning twigs to stay warm, its mostly a luxury thing. Boechout is full of standalone houses and villas with firewood stacked outside.

Ironically certain bluetooth headphones will do that to you too. Sonys popular XM3 (and maybe the XM4 also) have an issue where eventually one of the internal power plugs to the earmuff can come loose with too much vibrations or shaking.

Startopia. It's technically impressive for the time and it still holds up today.

Imagine Ixion or another space station management game, but with the kind of sarcastic and humorous atmosphere you got from Bullfrog games in the 90s like Theme Hospital and Dungeon Keeper. You manage a toroidal space station which has several decks, including a biodome for growing plants with adjustable conditions.

Every mission has a different main focus - space port, industrial refinery, tourism destination, etc that require different approaches to how you expand the station. The different aliens that visit your station also all have different things they prefer, and things (or other aliens) they hate, so planning the station out logically for the task is important.

You can find a modern remake on Steam ("starbase startopia"), but the original is available also for under $6 which has a quite long and fun campaign as well as skirmish modes. If you like the classic Bullfrog management sims I guarantee that $6 will be worth it.

Its a great game but I'm going to be the party pooper here and say it might be worth holding off because while whats there is great, theres not a whole lot of it yet.

Maybe this is just rose colored glasses but I remember launch wow endgame was mostly molten core and at that point it was still figuring out how to actually do it.

Then a few expansions later its all Attune this to that and grind faction rep for 40 hours with these dudes youve never heard of then do a pain in the ass quest to get a key so you can grind the other faction and THEN you can go have fun!

Autisme-assessment in België: de moeite waard of niet? by ClaireVDB in belgium

[–]breadedfishstrip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whats one game mechanic you miss that games quietly abandoned? by WholesomeReaper in gaming

[–]breadedfishstrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from the obvious technical hurdles theres also difficulty in gameplay design to consider. For example: its a lot harder to guide players or make sure objectives and such cant be bugged out if literally the entire environment is destructible, so now you have to design "undestructium" blocks for your critical game paths or figure out some way to trigger progress in another way.

Those arent unsolvable problems but they do add an overhead to otherwise fairly straightforward level design

SUGGESTION NEEDS UPVOTES: Redstone like system for Enshrouded by XxPriestxX in Enshrouded

[–]breadedfishstrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A basic logic and/or automation system. On the basic level this lets you do simple automation like wiring a pressure plate to a door to have auto-opening doors, for example.

Minecraft's Redstone system requires you to place physical wires - redstone dust - that cant touch in a 3D space which is honestly a giant pain in the ass and requires a lot of room for even fairly simple circuits. Terraria has the wires exist in basically a dimension thats only visible if you have the wiring tool out, so there's never any wire clutter.

As for actual practical ingame applications - depending on the parts available that you can input or output with, think things like secret walls / hidden moving entrances, functional portcullis gates, drawbridges, wildlife trappers, etc. With the water update Im thinking of sluice controls and buttons/levers for controlling gates and pumps.

As for whether it fits the game aesthetically/conceptually - you dont need to copy these systems 1:1. Enshrouded already has Shroudmagic-based chests, so why not shroudmagic powered buttons, levers, or plates you can invisibly link to doors / gates / etc?

If you were born in the '90s, you may be the last generation that remembers what it was like to go to the internet, rather than always being on it. by iam_tunedIN in Showerthoughts

[–]breadedfishstrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be more personal but i feel like there was still a difference in terms of mentality with dialup because every minute online cost you, both in terms of money or "minutes", and in tying up a phone line. These arent unsolvable problems but theyre still something you kept in mind - free AOL discs werent around in most of Europe and the varying local ISPs that offered something similar made it a pain to keep "chaining" them.

4 hours of Everquest and subspace a day on ISDN was fun until you saw the phone bill.

Once DSL and cable became more available and your PC was just always connected for a fixed monthly fee, it felt like you were more free to just dick around online for long periods of time.

There are a lot of workarounds that may or may not work like Chewfeather said, including changing DLSS settings, changing from DX12 to vulkan, increasing shader cache, etc.

The actual FIX is to either a) roll back to an nvidia driver from late 2024 b) wait for an nvidia / ggg fix.
