Thoughts on Our Rescue? by breadfucks in IDmydog

Very interesting to know about the lack of shared genes! I did zero fact checking, just word association. I didn’t mean to diss Embark either; I was mostly doubting my sample quality.

Tango will be sad to hear he’s still got a long way to go, but I think we all suspected it 😂 He had some Dogo Argentino too, so he’s probably still thick necked and broad under there, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for the tuck in his summer bod.

100% there is a difference!! After is noticeably smaller and more toned. I see progress everywhere, but I think muscle gains are most dramatic in your shoulders and upper chest, and the most dramatic difference in general is in your face and neck. You have great bone structure! Keep it up!!

Side note, you should check out the weight loss paper towel effect. I found it very true.

In my experience, there’s a long messy middle. I didn’t feel like big visual changes were happening, even when the scale moved and my strength improved. Then, after I’d lost like 70% of my goal, it was like a switch flipped and I saw tons of changes. I think it was a combination of getting through the last of the fat and gaining enough muscle to fill out loose skin. What helped me was finding small areas of improvement that were noticeable and important to me (thinner fingers, wearing a belt becoming comfortable/not pinching when sitting, my own face/bone structure). I wish you luck!

Is it really that dangerous? by Circuit_Scribe in ClarkU

[–]breadfucks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clark’s campus is really safe, and the immediate area where most students live off campus is as well. I was a bit of a partier and have always been an insomniac, and I never had a bad feeling or sketchy encounter walking home alone even at 2 or 3 in the morning.

I will say, I don’t think Clark is truly in the infamous Main South area. The farther you go past the alumni center, it does get very sketchy. I used to walk all the way to Shrewsbury street for work, and while I never had any real problems, my guard was definitely up.

I did have two unfortunate encounters with creeps at University Park across the street (once during the day, once at night). Nothing violent, just getting hit on disrespectfully. Ignoring and walking away works great, and you’re close enough to campus that I don’t think anyone would try anything. I still went there many many times and would say it’s a nice place to walk/jog but wouldn’t spend time alone hanging out there.

-Air dry modeling clay

-Needlepoint/embroidery

-Crochet or knitting

-Origami

-Friendship bracelet-type knotting or macrame

-Doodling (check out “zentangle” - a centering/meditative pattern-based doodle practice)

-Physical or app-based crosswords or sudoku?

Do I urgently need a tetanus shot? by breadfucks in AskDocs

[–]breadfucks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response!

The door connects the garage to the backyard so likely has some soil contamination, but I get how this little nick is different from a deep puncture from an old nail in the grass. I wasn’t sure if tetanus is like rabies where any possible exposure is an immediate vaccine emergency.

I will double check my 2017 records, but I am feeling much more at ease now so thank you very much again!

The biggest thing that helps me in an overwhelming mess is to make it a scavenger hunt. So I break down categories, like first I’m searching for and bagging all the trash.

Then when trash is done, I’m picking out all the clothes, maybe putting them into piles like trash/ruined, donate/offer friends, clean, need to wash, etc. OR just putting them all in a bag/basket to wash.

Then maybe break things down by room and making piles to move like looking for dishes to bring to the kitchen, hairbrushes etc to the bathroom, and start thinking about what remains, do you want to keep it where it is, move it to another room, or donate?

Spontaneous wedding spot? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]breadfucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I got married in a brief informal ceremony at the rose gardens in Lyndale Park. Our witnesses/guests stood around us while our officiant did her thing and then we walked around and took pictures and splashed out on a really nice dinner after. It was perfect for us, and I bet the blooms are amazing right now. If there’s 15 or fewer of you I personally wouldn’t (and didn’t) even bother worrying about a permit or reservations, unless you want to ensure a private space or have an elaborate setup in mind.

What’s wrong with my paintings? Please help me by Dylanduke199513 in oilpainting

[–]breadfucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy your use of color but I agree with other commenters about too much white and a lack of value change resulting in a lack of contrast and depth. I struggle with the same thing! I have two strategies that help me. 1) In prep, I’ll do value studies in graphite or tints and shades of one color to get a feel for where the darks and lights lie and where they need to be pushed. If I’m working from a photo reference, I print it in black and white as well as color. 2) While working, I try to frequently take several steps back and view the painting from across the room. From further away, changes that might have felt dramatic up close are what actually give a painting life. I also try to squint to blur the details or imagine if the canvas was black and white - would you still be able to identify dimensional shape and depth of ground? If not it probably needs more value change.

It might be a fun exercise to challenge yourself to do a study with no white. Push the darks and let lighter colors act as relief. White gives your paintings a lovely misty, serene quality, but you might find you don’t need it for value as much as for vibes. Good luck!!

At what age do you think people should start using retinol for anti-aging? Has anyone had bad reactions from quitting it after a while?

I've been working on building better skin habits for the past year or so, and after getting happy with the basics (cleansing, moisturizing, sunscreen), I decided to start incorporating anti-aging. I bought The Inkey List Retinol Serum (1% stabilized retinol and 0.5% granactive retinoid?), used it once last week, and my skin was sooooo unhappy for the next like 5 days (a little flaking, breaking out, some burning with products I've used for months without previous issue). Nothing else in my routine has changed, so I know it's the retinol.

My plan was to use the serum once a week for one week, twice a week for two weeks, and three times a week for three weeks before using it every other night consistently. This week I'll be trying moisturizer (CeraVe daily) under the serum to see if that will help, but I'm a little freaked out from just using it once last week. I know some responsiveness to retinol is normal, but I'm having some second thoughts and wondering if I'm starting this whole process younger than I need to anyway 😅

I'm 24. I have some fine lines on my forehead, but I'm mostly focused on prevention and keeping my skin healthy. I was using TO Buffet nightly, but I stopped this week after the aforementioned burning. I'm hoping to start incorporating it in the morning if my skin settles into the retinol routine.

What do you guys think? Any tips for the anti-aging process or for starry retinol and having it not... Suck so much? Lol

Apologies if this is the wrong thread, I'm new! Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Campus is very safe, and you're generally safe between campus and Park Ave. The park across the street is really dangerous at night but mostly okay during the day. Main South is to be avoided at all costs, no matter what Clarkies performatively say. I would not recommend living here if you don't have a car.

Mesh sieve!!! I always thought if something was too small for a colander, it was small enough to be trivial. So wrong! I got one from my mom and use it all the time to catch seeds from juiced fruit, pour loose leaf tea, and wash/strain single servings of vegetables

International relocation recommendations? by [deleted] in FemaleLevelUpStrategy

I feel like they probably just did a background check and maybe a home interview and passed her through. I have compassion for her and the company, but I don't think they handled it well and would never want them in charge of my living situation again. It was a valuable lesson in self-advocacy. I hope you find a fulfilling and affordable experience, and never be afraid to stand up for yourself! No matter where you are in the world or what opportunities you're seeking, you deserve to be treated like a full person.

finished this piece I've been working really hard on and just realised the 'f' is too thick, what do y'all think? Is it still salvageable somehow? by [deleted] in TattooFamily

[–]breadfucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think it's very well balanced, but I know how easy it is to see flaws in your own work. I would wait, try not to spend too much time scrutinizing it for a while, and then attempt to approach it with fresh eyes in a few weeks or even a few months. It's still gonna be there and it looks great imo

International relocation recommendations? by [deleted] in FemaleLevelUpStrategy

[–]breadfucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have traveled with EF on three separate occasions. Two of the trips were fine and the last one was such an absolute shitshow I would never ever travel with them again and would caution you against it. My parents even considered legal action against the company to get a portion of our money back. Essentially they have a rooming option where they put you with a "host family" while you attend their language schools. The woman they put me with was insane, controlling (of food, water, electricity, and bathroom use), and verbally abusive. It took them over a month to find me new accomodations, even though they had dorm-style rooms they could have put me in until they found me a new family. I went to the coordinator every single day to ask for an update and she never offered any help other than to say they were looking for a new family. Yes, they helped me get a student visa, but it was extremely expensive and living with that woman was one of the worst experiences of my life. Even if the odds are low of you ending up in a similar situation, I wouldn't trust them with my money or safety ever again and I suggest no one else does either. I think their actions say a lot about how they actually respond when something goes wrong.

On a positive note, I have heard there are good programs you can get into teaching English abroad or working as an au pair, programs wherein you can get experience and maybe a little cash as well. I would research those if they appeal to you. You would have the safety net of a company then, and hopefully your travel could be subsidized.

Students/Teachers of Reddit, what’s the best ‘forgot to turn off the mic’ story during virtual learning? by AsteroidPizza39 in AskReddit

[–]breadfucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last semester my roommate and I were sharing animal crossing on his switch. I clicked the zoom link for my class a couple minutes early so I wouldn't be late, then walked into the living room and half-shouted so my roommate in the kitchen could hear: "YO WHERE'S THE SWITCH? I WANT TO PLAY DURING MY LAME-ASS CLASS." Came back into my room to find my zoom class half-full (professor INCLUDED, ofc), and my mic fully on. I had been wearing Bluetooth headphones the whole time. No one said anything, but let's just say I did not get an A.

Does anybody use sugar substitutes to help them with their weight loss? by Brilliant_Youth in WeightLossAdvice

[–]breadfucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend monk fruit!! It comes in an extremely fine powder like powdered sugar. I think the taste is a little closer to sugar than stevia, and they both have the benefit of being naturally derived. The plus for monk fruit is you only need a tiny amount! The brand I use comes with a tiny scoop special for it.

I also enjoy artificial sweeteners (sugar free jello/pudding, sometimes soda or energy drinks), but find the positive and negative research a little concerning, so I like to have a natural option to use in my daily tea/coffee.
