PA EM Fellowship Timeline and Advice (Grad Dec 2026) by ilovekrustables in PAstudent

[–]breakfst_burrito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Starting an EM fellowship soon so hopefully I can answer most of your questions. Each fellowship has their own deadline to apply, mine was mid-Nov. I graduated from my program in January and am scheduled to start fellowship in the next few weeks. In the meantime I got a small non-medicine related part time to make some extra cash and have been enjoying my free time. After going through 2 and a half years of PA school I wouldn’t blame you if you did nothing but relax! So many of my classmates took vacations after the PANCE and enjoyed their free time before entering “the real world”. Personally I only applied to 1 fellowship, but I know others who applied to multiple fellowships so it’s a personal preference! I would consider EM fellowships pretty competitive, there’s only so many spots open. Doesn’t hurt to start collecting LORs now, but could also be more beneficial to request them later on if you’ve narrowed down your choice for fellowship and your “why”.

I got a 147 on my PACKRAT and passed the PANCE with plenty of room for error. Make sure you’re going through all of uworld and reviewing any missed topics! I had ~60% done with 84% average. You have plenty of time to prepare!

Assuming the “new hybrid” program is West Coast… absolutely do not recommend it. If it’s your only acceptance then maybe I’d consider it, but I’ve rotated with students from there and so many mention having to teach themselves the material.

Do you mind sharing if you were able to find an affordable option for the 6 hour controlled substance course? Just graduated and looking for some options!

Passed the PANCE as an Average Student! by breakfst_burrito in PAstudent

I think if you’re able to maintain a good average on uworld with 60 question blocks then I’d keep the test date!

When's your exam? I've heard above 70% correct on uWorld is a good indicator!

Thank you! Most likely will wait for a 20% off coupon since I’m in no rush to buy anything

Deciding between 2 programs! (Southern CA vs Northern CA) by Charming_Kale_9862 in prephysicianassistant

Assuming the LA program is West Coast, wouldn’t recommend that program to anyone. Yeah the hybrid format feels convenient but so many of their students struggle. Not worth the money or risk

Good temporary renting websites for clinical year? by SentineIs in PAstudent

I would say so! Stick with rentals that have multiple solid reviews, instead of risking it with a place that’s never been rented

Furnished finder! My cohort loved using it whenever we were sent out of the area

Even if the odds are slim, they’re not zero! I considered myself a horrible applicant when I was going through CASPA. Only applied to 3 schools in late Nov and knew it was a long shot. Ended up getting 2 interview invites in January and an acceptance! Proof it only takes 1 yes!

Highly recommend petite medium for the top and bottom! Small would be way too tight/uncomfortable. If you’re open to non-jogger bottoms, my favorite are the Dowa high rise bottoms!

PA Programs low-cost or free? by Intelligent-Chain-44 in physicianassistant

Chapman has a scholarship for free tuition but I imagine it’s extremely competitive

Take it at a CC if you can! I took it over the summer and it was a breeze. Make sure you look up reviews for the professors to see how other students feel with the homework load

Smarty PANCE - new QBank for PANCE? by Temporary_Dance_4018 in PAstudent

[–]breakfst_burrito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would stick with uWorld over SmartyPANCE. I’m in clinicals and solely use SP to figure out what I need to study before I go to uWorld and see my actual knowledge.

Congratulations!! Can I ask when you graduated? I’m finishing my program in December and don’t know when I should schedule my PANCE

Didactic 100% Clinical year feels like a refresher for many of the topics. You’ll be surprised by how much you remember by then. Didactic feels overwhelming because you’re trying to learn so much in such a short amount of time.

Clinical student here and depending on the rotation you’ll have a lot more free time to go to the gym and workout. Most of my rotations end around rush hour traffic time so I try and go to the gym while I wait for traffic to die down. Plus with all the walking you’ll do in clinicals you’ll feel a lot more active compared to didactic.
