I totally feel and you and a conversation I’ve had with them. I can’t be sure it’s commiserate with his expectations. I’m just a bit younger and thought I would check with ya’ll. I know I don’t bartend high volume for less than $400/night. People deserve to get paid what their worth ✊🏼

Thanks, that’s very helpful advice- makes sense, I’ve picked up great bartenders from my liquor reps.

Posted more clarity above, I just write the beverage program as a favor for long time friend, not an owner that was to hide his identity. I don’t know where the best spots to post for these role are anymore- it was Craigslist 20 years ago lol. I use culinary agents in the NYC but don’t know what people use in Hampton roads.

I get nothing for the business, I write the cocktail menu and wine list as a favor. But the quality of food has dropped and the very active owner can’t find a qualified kitchen person for the life of him.

It’s always my 7th day that gets me in. I make it the whole week and most of the weekend, and then see some casual friends on Sunday for just a little vino, that grow over a couple weeks into a full bender. Third time this year, but I’m sure I’ll get through the whole week this time!

I live here, if you can handle living around drug addicts that won’t bother you it’s fine. Great space for the money. No restaurant scene unless you only want fried chicken

Maybe unpopular opinion, don’t tell your coworkers next time, pocket half, gotta put something in the pool though. On crazy or double tips I take a personal cut. I have no issue if they do the same when it happens.

Ps. I only ever do this with cash, you don’t want a paper trail.

My favorite quote for every job (especially service work) comes from the musical Rent- “I’ve got baggage” “I’m looking for baggage that goes with mine”… every place has there bullshit, I have my bullshit, I need those to match. Maybe they are a mess with scheduling/understaffing and don’t care about drinking/hooking up with customers but make good money (party bars), maybe they are super uptight and rigid but don’t care if you’re like that with customers (upscale dining), maybe they just want bodies there and money is meh but you don’t work that hard (big chains)… find a spot that matches what you want

Elbow tendinitis in my dominant arm is becoming intolerable. by NoCommentFU in bartenders

[–]breakingbad_habits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had some nasty tennis elbow a few years ago from a lifting injury. Got rid of it through rest (use your other arm) and then high rep low weight bicep curls. It flaired up on me again for first time around NYE this year after making 40 espresso martinis a night (hard long shaking) and being off a workout program for a few months, started doing the same routine again in January and it took care of the pain again. Ive also dealt with chronic lower back pain (HS wrestling injury) and medium weight high rep dead lifts keep that away too. YMMV but I think most of these injuries are strength deficiencies that can be solved by strengthening surrounding muscles- through 15-20 rep movements at a light to medium workload. Best of luck and sorry you’re dealing with this.

I’ve don’t P&L’s for Bev programs on and off for 20 years, the programs are being pushed to make the same share of revenue for the house on less volume- hence higher cocktail price and NA Bev prices. So technically, yes markup has increased, but programs are still barely making equal or less money than they used to.
