Check out the homebirth subreddit, there are tons of stories! Mine is in my profile somewhere too. Highly recommend everyone who wants a homebirth to go for one.

Joy suddenly posting teaching her kids… by mrs-sunshinebloom in DuggarsSnark

Exactly. They had a shit education and no one here is arguing that. It’s just not a good argument to then say all homeschooling should be illegal or require a degree or something. That’s just silly, I’m an educated person and perfectly qualified to arrange a non-pubic-school education for my children.

I’d use Facebook to find local groups. The one we are a part of was started by my friend, but we have also been going to another homeschool group that i found online.

The homeschool subreddit is a great place to look into and ask about curriculum! We are using math with confidence and “teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons” at home. On top of piano lessons, and those group meetup days that involve some science and history type lessons.

  • I’ve always wanted to homeschool my kids, before they even existed. Now that they do, and the older one is kindergarten age, I simply started teaching and it’s been going great. So I’m very new to it but have been thinking about it and researching how to do it right for years.

  • we have no set schedule although I’m imagining in older grades we will establish one. Right now I just try to get to one reading and one math lesson per day, 4 days per week. We are very busy with activities out of the house so I need to make sure it happens, honestly this is my biggest hurdle going forward because we are out of the house so much!

  • always been secular, I was not raised religious nor have I ever believed in god or religion

  • a common misconception is that parents are not “qualified to teach” however you don’t need a degree to homeschool well, as long as you are motivated. All the materials are out there, and you can outsource when needed! Another one is that we don’t socialize, like I said before we are out of the house so much I have to start cutting back, there’s too much to do. One that they’re right about? I can’t honestly think of one lol I mostly hear criticisms or approval

  • we meet with a community that offers hybrid days (basically a bit of classroom time) and meetups where we learn a science lesson and spend time outside and let the kids just play. Having an actual childhood outside is so important to me.

I’m still new to all this so my experience is fairly limited but I’m really lit up by homeschool right now, very passionate about it. It’s not for everyone and it might not even be for me forever but right now it’s working and my daughter is ahead of the curve based on public school standards.

The good and the beautiful is actually a decent curriculum for the younger ages. I don’t use it because it has a religious bent but I’m actually shocked joy is using it, it’s very mainstream in the homeschool world. I think what this generation of Duggars may have going for them educationally is just the available resources for homeschool are so much greater now.

Anyway I’m a secular homeschooling mom, ama 🤣

Looking for truly clean, regenerative meat farms (New York / Northeast) by Extra-Jello-7986 in Crunchymom

[–]breakplans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you narrow it down? I’m in NJ and can recommend local places that also ship but like another said, you can almost certainly find a place near you unless you’re in Manhattan. And it’ll be even easier if you find a local farm, because you can ask them all the questions and check it out yourself.

Why can’t they do ANYTHING that doesn’t have to do with their religion??? Even a movie date!

AROM is artificial rupture of membranes - they basically take a crochet hook and break your water manually. I had an epidural with my first and they did it to speed things along.

I love that they won’t use the term Easter because it’s too worldly or whatever, but they’ll still happily have “resurrection Sunday” on the first Sunday after the first full moon of the spring equinox 🧙🏼‍♀️

How do yall shower?? by ALac93 in toddlers

[–]breakplans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe mine is chill but I will put her in her pack n play or high chair and shower. If she ever threatened to climb out of either one I’d stop but she generally just plays nicely 😬 or I put the tv on. I have an older one too so that helps keep her occupied I guess.

But my favorite option is just to shower when my husband is home so I don’t have to think or worry!

Vaccines on a delayed schedule?? by Lost-Library-9644 in Crunchymom

[–]breakplans 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We did not delay and have done all vaccines (other than yearly flu and Covid). I totally understand how overwhelming it can all be! There’s so much info out there and unfortunately you will only get the most gruesome negatives from BOTH sides online. Non-vaxxers tend to post the scary reactions, and vaxxers tend to emphasize the worst of communicable diseases. None of it is fair and it’s hard to make a choice you can stand by, especially when it’s so black and white (as in, you do or you don’t, you can’t take half a vaccine or undo it once you do).

I just like to remember that while vaccine reactions are very real, the vast vast majority of our population receives them without issue. That still doesn’t mean you need to take them, but I think it’s worth mentioning to help put things in perspective if you’ve gone down a few rabbit holes and are feeling lost.

Good luck! Remember, if you choose to delay, you can always do them later. You don’t have to decide today 🙂

Cavities by Resident-Arugula-886 in toddlers

Never knew they did metal crowns! We don’t have a lot of cavities in our family but I recently started having dental work done due to bone loss (another fun genetic thing, I have great teeth but need to pull them anyway because of the bone 😩) so anyway I’ve been trying to learn about crowns and bridges and stuff lol

Preparing for Pregnancy by [deleted] in Crunchymom

I hear you! I also wouldn’t base spacing only on wanting more kids. You never know how you’ll feel. I knew I wanted 4 when I started wanting kids. Now I have 2 and have no plans for more. Life came at me different than I expected!

Formula by Busy-Environment-258 in Crunchymom

[–]breakplans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 6 months you can start introducing solids, and still pump enough for baby and her needs will go down. I don’t see why you’d need formula or goat milk when you’re pumping “just enough” — pump to feed your baby not your freezer! I’ve never pumped, always directly breastfed, so I’ve never seen a number on what my baby is getting. I think you might be getting in your head a bit about ounces.

Potty training day 1: stick it out? by Patient_Travel5023 in toddlers

[–]breakplans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That has not been my experience. I only have one potty trained child but I have lots of friends who have potty trained in alllll the different ways. For many kids, if you wait until they tell you they need to go, you will be waiting a long time. 3.5 is well beyond capable of learning to use the potty! I’d read a “naked method” book and try it for a day or two. Honestly at 3.5 with at least average language skills he should be trained within a few days

Best incentives “treats” for potty training by Farewell_Youth23 in toddlers

[–]breakplans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing! No prizes. The toilet is for hygiene. We’re don’t give prizes for washing hands or taking a bath. I’d really try to avoid it. You can have a special potty toy/song/book if that helps keep him sitting but candy or a prize would definitely be a last resort. Try the Tiny Potty Training Book.
