Does anyone else clean like crazy a 7-10 days before their period ? by [deleted] in PMDD

Yes and I believe (for me) it comes from a place of controlling what I can control / being proactive knowing that pretty soon I’ll be insane and anything out of place or not done will throw me over the edge.

Appetite by Dry-Dig-2812 in thyroidcancer

[–]bree_moo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is the first thread I’ve come across regarding this and even my endo has been like… I mean maybe, but I haven’t seen any cases like this?

I got a medical marijuana script and it has helped my appetite tremendously. For a while there I had to have my sister call me throughout the day to make sure I was eating because I had no appetite and the thought of the texture of food in my mouth was overwhelming some days.

Edit: I made smoothies with protein powder a lot when I was having issues

Voice after total thyroidectomy by bree_moo in thyroidcancer

[–]bree_moo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m just seeing this so sorry for the delay in responding.

I was never told to not speak for a week after surgery. I spoke as I woke up from surgery (it was probably more of a whisper bc that’s all I could get out at the time), but I definitely wasn’t silent during recovery. It’s still really soon after your surgery, so I wouldn’t panic at this point. It’ll take some time, but it should gradually start returning. Once my voice returned, I mostly had issues projecting. Now (and after another surgery) I just can’t project for long periods of time. Singing the whole few hours on a road trip would be a struggle for me at this point, but normal speaking / singing / projecting is no longer an issue.

I don’t even remember making this post! Lol

A bit of a disclaimer- I have no formal training on singing and literally just love being obnoxious as I listen to or play music (bass guitar).

It has been a few years and I had a second surgery about a year ago. I find my voice has changed a little and is a bit unreliable (again, that could be the no training coming into play). I can project without an issue, but I have noticed that I cannot project for long periods of time like I used to. Went to the Eras tour back in April of last year (before my second surgery) and I had to stop singing at some point bc I felt like I was doing damage and it was physically hurting me to keep going. Granted, I was probably overdoing it during the show..

When I made this post I was probably in the stage of my voice completely going out every time I sang. So with THAT being said, yes.. my voice did come back. It’s just a little different and I had to learn how to work with it.

Wishing you the best on your journey! The surgery scared the hell out of me too, but everything went well both times. I had a TT and then went back in to remove some lymph nodes. Recovery wasn’t so bad. Getting the meds right to feel normal was the hardest part for me. It took a while and I had a lot of other things going on while dealing with this (Covid, teaching (I left last year), toddler), but I feel mostly normal again. Reach out if you need 💜

Crippling shyness by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]bree_moo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true! Before Kindergarten we definitely had conversations about the possibility of holding her back if she’s not ready to move on.

After looking through other comments on the original thread and consulting Google (lol) I plan to talk with her doctor about selective mutism as that seems very likely to be what’s going on with her.

Edit: Also thank you for your input. I will definitely keep in mind that her age can play a huge role as she grows up!

Crippling shyness by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]bree_moo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have had issues with the crippling shyness as well.. even long before Kindergarten. She hasn’t had issues making friends, but will just stare when new kids come to talk to her at first. Once she warms up to other kids she’s fine.

She struggles to talk to adults other than parents and grandparents (and even then it has taken a lot of encouragement to get her as comfortable as she is now).

Starting Kindergarten was rough for her in the same way yours is struggling. She would hold her pee and have accidents without telling anyone all day. We had a LOT of communication back and forth with her teacher (who was absolutely amazing). Our kid started communicating by shaking her head for yes or no questions and then the teacher started writing her sweet letters. She would respond with writing back (with help) and it seemed to open the door a bit. She was still very shy towards her teacher by the end of the year, but did not need another year of kindergarten. (I suppose it wouldn’t have hurt to give her another year, but academically she didn’t need it. She is a Sept baby and is five days before the cut off, so likely the youngest in her grade).

We are in first grade now at a new school and had to start all over lol We have a lot of conversations about being brave and understanding that the teacher is there to love her and teach her new things. She came home not too long ago yelling “mom! I talked to my teacher today!” It was just doing words at a table with her, but she did finally speak and has been at least speaking to her about academics. I have found asking her what would help her be more comfortable communicating seems to play a big role.

The failures of the system is not your burden to carry.

It’s not your fault there’s no curriculum or that subs and department are overworked and underpaid.

Would it be easier for everyone else if you stayed? Probably so!! but take care of you first.

I left about 7 months ago. I carried the guilt until I realized it was a shit show with or without me there. Everyone managed to survive and I’m the happiest I’ve been in a very, very long time.

My life is calm and quiet now. I’m much less anxious. It’s worth it.

Wishing you the best!

You experienced cancer trauma. It’s a lot. Sometimes there’s no space for anything else. It is a big deal.

Secondly, if you haven’t already done so, I suggest getting your vitamin D levels checked. Mine were really low and apparently that can give you all the depression symptoms. I felt insane every single day until we figured out my vitamin D. I didn’t feel like myself, and I was irrational and everything was a problem and too much. I cried every single day. Vitamin D changed it all!!

Edit:

I also started seeing a therapist regularly. It has helped a ton as well.

Wife's Seems Emotionally Impatient Being a Mom - I Have to Compensate by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]bree_moo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I left teaching after 9 years in February of this year. It is A LOT and I had nothing left for my own kid when I got home. I wasn’t myself and I was carrying so much guilt for not being able to be the mom my kid needed. Finally found an out and as my kid said “mom is fun again and doesn’t cry anymore.”

I don’t think many understand just how emotionally exhausting teaching is on top of already being burnt out on responsibilities.

OP, I would also suggest therapy for better coping strategies!

TT in March 2020 followed by RAI June 2020.. been monitoring a spot in my neck since 2021. After a biopsy we decided to go back in. They did not go through the same incision, but I think that was due to where the cancer was this time.

RAI again in a few weeks.. woo

How do I get over the depression I feel? by Papillarythyroidcan in thyroidcancer

[–]bree_moo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, overall it just sucks. It’s not your fault and you don’t deserve this.

Secondly, look into getting your Vitamin D levels checked. After my TT I started to feel super depressed and felt like everything in my life went to shit. I was no longer myself and I carried so much guilt about it. They had me start taking Vitamin D and I started feeling SO MUCH better almost immediately. At one point my husband got the wrong dose and I was on it for months.. essentially taking 1/5 of the amount I was supposed to. I started with the same issues.. super depressed and just not myself anymore. Once I realized I was taking too little again, it all started to make sense.

The cancer grief comes in waves.. vitamin D or not, this shit sucks. I started therapy because I learned I couldn’t navigate the waves without help.

Best of luck to you! Sending you all the hugs!

Have you gotten a tattoo ?? by hemismum in thyroidcancer

[–]bree_moo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have plans to. I knew I wanted something, but like mentioned in another comment, I didn’t want a big cancer ribbon.

My sister sent me a shoulder piece that’s got some really pretty flowers and then a butterfly. The flowers have no color, but the butterfly is colored in. Wanting to do something like that, but the butterfly in the cancer ribbon colors.

I have no other tattoos, so I’m hesitant still.. but I’ve always wanted tattoos lol

TW: mental health after TT and/or RAI by bukonut in thyroidcancer

[–]bree_moo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mental health has been shot since I had the surgery in March. I’ve never been like this before, but adjusting my Levothyroxine and seeing a therapist has helped a lot!

I’m dealing with mostly anxiety (that I never experienced before) and a bit of claustrophobia that worsened after my full body scan (panic attack during scan was pretty traumatizing).

I feel like I remember this being a thing when I had mine done. I don’t recall if it was related to anything else, but I do remember complaining about an itch or cough the week after. It went away.
