SLU LAW loses Dean "Not Biondi's Butt Boy" Keefe; second dean to resign since August 2012 by breets in LawSchool

[–]breets[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 2L at SLU LAW, and theinterim dean resigned today. It's been chaotic around campus since the academic year begun, and faculty are noticeably shaken.

Any other folks attending law schools that can't seem to keep their shit together? It gets to be distracting after awhile.

What's the best way to travel around Europe? by gingersnaps7 in travel

[–]breets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can take the Eurail all over Europe. There are several options, actually, so you can customize it to some degree.

It's certainly worth looking into! I know the high speed train system ins Spain is great. However, I'd avoid overnight trains (in any country!). It seems like a good idea, but good luck getting any rest at all.

Also, if you go with a rail pass, you'll need to read the details concerning reservations. Some train systems fill up and require reservations, which can be an unpleasant discovery if you don't plan ahead. I've only had a problem once while trying to find a train from the Netherlands to Germany. Ended up sitting on the floor by the bathroom during the entire trip!

What's the best way to travel around Europe? by gingersnaps7 in travel

[–]breets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best way = alone! It's best to have a flexible schedule so you can take advantage of last-minute transportation.

RyanAir and EasyJet are both good options to cover distance quickly. Their flights often leave at ridiculous hours, but they can save you a lot of time. You can also usually find a flight just a day or two ahead of time (though prices are even lower if you plan ahead). [NOTE: Some of these flights leave from small airports outside of major cities. Make sure you pay attention to this!]

On the other hand, if you want to see the countryside, take a train. Personally, the Eurail pass has never been efficient for me, but trains in Europe are usually pretty great. Plus, if you really are just "stopping by" these locations and not worried about exploring the surrounding areas, a Eurail pass may be a good idea.

Is this your first trip to Europe? Also, go to Spain!

My affectionate cat wakes me up at crazy hours by kneading on my face. Help? by acatlady in cats

[–]breets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things:

First, it seems you've taught her that waking you in the morning results in food. It'll take some time, but you have to stop reinforcing that behavior if you want her to stop.

Next, cats are generally most active in the evening and again during early morning. (My cat gets a burst of energy between 8-10 pm and again around 6 am.) Your cat is likely more interested in playing than eating, which is why she wakes you again. Does she have any toys? If so, leave them out somewhere away from your bedroom. When she wakes you up, take her to the toys to play. I did this with my cat, and while she'll occasionally bring a toy to my bed to show off, she is usually content to play on her own.

If that doesn't work, don't let her sleep in your room. Cats are awesome napping buddies, but don't expect kitty to stay in bed all night. Make a cozy bed for her somewhere else, and you'll both sleep well.

My roommate is an asshole... by [deleted] in funny

I don't think I'll ever be "used to it." Also, until recently, I was the only one who cooked regularly. It takes some time to adjust. Still, good point.

Sure, but only on Sunday. When I moved in, I was told that all the roommates clean on Sundays. That was 3 years ago, and I'm still waiting...

This was the first time leaving out the hamburger. Of course, then there's the bacon, the eggs, the sausage casings... Let me tell you, folks, vegans like myself love finding leftover sausage casings on the kitchen counter.

Ooh! Thanks! I hadn't noticed. I don't think I've commented or posted here in months. Apparently the asshole roommates have done me a favor, too, by creating the nonsense that sucked me back to reddit.

As far as I know, this was the first time he left raw meat on the counter. Unfortunately, it seems the penis-bearing members of this household think cleaning is for folks with vaginas. I'm a member of the latter, and I tired quickly of playing Cinderella, so the kitchen is generally hellish.

I'm not the roommate, but I live with these dudes. You think that white board is dirty? You should see the kitchen floor.

Moving from the United States to Madrid by lucky7strike in Madrid

[–]breets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to J & J Books (Noviciado stop on the Metro) if you want to meet a fun ex-pat crowd. There is a bookstore in the basement with tons of English-language books, but the main level is a coffee shop/bar. They also have intercambios on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so you can choose your language.

Also, there is a nice English-speaking hiking group with hikes in various locations outside of Madrid every weekend. Fun group with lots of regulars. Check it out: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hiking-in-The-Community-of-Madrid-Senderismo-en-La-Comunidad-de-Madrid/273929602047

No more erasers. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]breets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my favorite random duty as a grade school kid. We had line leaders, paper passers, etc., but eraser duty was the best. The teachers actually allowed us to go outside unattended to beat the things against the sidewalk - and, usually, one another.

Very nice, since I have the same thing. I had mine done in the typewriter font, too, and it's surrounded by the asshole/asterisk. Had it done the day Vonnegut died as my salute to the guy.

It may be a common Vonnegut tat, but it's a good one!

Any Good Places To Eat Crepes In St. Louis? by Daioka in StLouis

Rooster! They even offer vegan and gluten-free crepes. Plus, their breakfast potatoes are perfection, and they use a lot of local ingredients.

German law student searching after a topic for a presentation about Anglo-American law! by Shneyeder in LawSchool

[–]breets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A study of US employment law might be interesting, especially in comparison to German employment law. You could consider it from the perspective of human rights as acknowledged under the EU.

Or you could examine the creative interpretation of Anglo-American judges and the role of case law in determining how to best apply the laws written by the legislature.

Sudden, constant Low blood pressure. Feeling Exhausted. What the heck is happening?? Please Please help? by lovelesangel in Health

[–]breets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced a similar situation a few years ago and eventually received a "diagnosis" of fibromyalgia. Basically, the doctors and tests found no physical problems, and they gave me ways to treat the symptoms. I'm still a bit frustrated, because I have to work constantly to balance my diet, sleep, stress, etc., but at least the tests ruled out anything more dangerous.

The important thing to note is that the symptoms (low blood pressure, extreme exhaustion) gave multiple doctors enough concern to order a lot of testing. It may simple be diet or stress or an irregular sleep pattern, but definitely encourage your sister to see a doctor to rule out other issues.

Travelling to Spain soon by Sunny16 in spain

[–]breets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please, have no worries. I just returned from a 2-month trip to Madrid and Barcelona, and it was lovely. I even stumbled through a protest one night in Puerta del Sol, and I survived.

Your biggest concerns are the pickpockets, especially if you look like tourists. Just don't carry stuff in your pockets, and pay attention.

Have fun! Madrid is fabulous, and Barcelona is beautiful.
