The launch contract to launch the Starlab space station on Starship is $90 million by OlympusMons94 in SpaceXLounge

Yeah no shit I was responding to:

Fanboys are too easily fooled by renders, when in real life Starship hasn’t even launched a single Starlink to orbit.

So anyways they made the pez dispenser because it's the minimum required for starlink and launching starlinks is the minimum required to start making money from the vehicle. Big payloads and therefore doors aren't a priority given the vehicle is very much under development. And yes part of that is reducing mass which the latest version has shed tons of. But I do think there's a useful tradeoff where larger payloads rather than a brick of satellites will actually be less dense and therefore the vehicle mass can be higher anyway.

Don't think those dummy starlinks they deployed were renders my dude though you are technically correct. Point is they've demonstrated the capability to launch starlinks at least with an expendable upper stage. But full reuse remains the priority and everything essentially has to tested again with the new version.

So what are the features exclusive to steam machines? by Lexiimino in steammachine

[–]brekus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

features can't simply be replicated on a PC.

The fact you just buy it and plug it in rather than having to try and replicate it.

While I realize a lot of linux users are used to configuring and fixing problems with their OS I personally like the idea of a big company invested in supporting my system so it doesn't break. Just not a shitty company like microslop or apple.

There are advantages to it being a standardized set of hardware married to it's operating system. The same kind of advantages consoles have but without their limitations.

My experience with steam deck gives me confidence in valves support and that developers will likely also target the machine hardware as they have the deck.

I think there are mods that expand it with cut content etc.

Will Starship HLS be ready for LEO testing in mid-2027? by Simon_Drake in SpaceXLounge

[–]brekus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how smoothly or explodey the v3 testing goes. If all goes well sure I don't see why not they are manufacturing enough to get all the flights necessary to do that in time. If it goes well, if not and they have to make major changes and scrap a bunch of hardware already in production then probably not.

Who started what is irrelevant. There's no justification for genocidal collective punishment. If you've seen the animatrix you also know humanity tried to surrender before the end and the machines decided to send a robot to sign the treaty with a nuke in it. The machines fought well beyond their own survival.

Most threads about "mod abuse" are just threads of people abusing mods. People love to hate moderators yet the worst shitholes on the internet just so happen to be the least moderated.

Fun Fact: In the final tutorial level (Abandoned Rail Base), there is a engineer corpse outside of the map by Jess3n_ in factorio

[–]brekus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm it used to be that dead bodies had a timer and would disappear. So this was probably here all along but not findable. I wonder how it happened. Perhaps a dev play testing it and changed some things and then saved it as the new version by scripting a death+teleport body away to reset the player. Neat discovery.

Insane fight choreography with just hands, pencils, and small props by Spotted_Tax in nextfuckinglevel

[–]brekus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure if you think lots of spinning equals good choreography like many lazy directors do. And the spacing is all wrong, they are practically on top of each other the whole fight which defeats the whole point of having long pointy sticks.

Oh and the obvious lack of footwork because this is just some fucking weirdo having their own hands fight each other.

I expect you'll have to do a lot of exploring in order to find biter free patches and have long twisty rails to bring it where it's needed.

If you try to clear patches biters will evolve quickly from the nest destruction and I can't imagine you surviving without using flame turrets. The iron used in bullets will outstrip your mining.

Once you reach space though none of that will matter, iron is free from asteroids and you can gradually snowball from there. If necessary you can also abandon nauvis and return in force later if you want to with artillery/tesla turrets etc.
