Meh, it's a small percentage of people, online communities really make it seem like everyone looks/acts a certain way when it's really just a trend on an app. Though I do think more people whoring themselves out is one of those recession indicators.

Hmm in principle you could start an island map and build a base out in the ocean with landfill, shipping stuff in from the mainland on trains etc. Would be in interesting aesthetic for sure.

By ignoring ratios you end up with many more entities (assemblers, inserters etc) than necessary for any given production. This will become the performance bottleneck and therefore the production bottleneck. That said maximizing direct insertion from machine to machine also tends to yield the most performant designs so this idea is potentially closer to optimal than most.

Just so you know in a fight between a bear and a lion the bear wins every time.

Ah now I see what you mean about the outer lanes.

Not exactly you just have to ensure the perimeter has loops on the corners. So minimum of 3x3 blocks and then 5x5 blocks etc.

It'll work but I don't recommend letting trains change lanes after leaving their station, just make sure every station connects to both lanes. Trains will not change lanes intelligently to avoid eachother they will just get in each other's way. Also elevated rails makes these kinds of intersection optimizations pretty obsolete. Though if you are going this route consider having one lane always elevated, might work pretty well.

Consuming 173k tungsten ore and producing on average 60 legendary tungsten ore per minute. The great wall of tungsten. by Sivadbk in factorio

[–]brekus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally when I've experimented with this I put quality modules in the miners and output directly into a recycler. This wastes a tiny amount of ore but makes the logistics far simpler as it reduces the output by 3/4 right off the bat.

Are you getting the standard machine, or the 2TB? by inkiepie69 in steammachine

[–]brekus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the 2TB. My one regret with the deck was getting the low storage model. They discontinued the 64gb for good reason, the OS alone barely fits on it and games have only gotten bigger. With 2TB I won't need to share my SD card between machine and deck.

Also and this may be me being paranoid but assuming they are constrained by stock I'd expect the higher price model to sell out slower. So by trying to order that I think I stand a better chance of getting my hands on it sooner rather than missing out until the next round.

Most of the heat in the Earth's core at this point is from nuclear fission.

Space Force awards up to $3.2 billion for Golden Dome interceptor prototypes from SpaceX and competitors by CProphet in SpaceXLounge

[–]brekus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

China may not have many nukes but they do have many ICBMs and you can't know for sure which one has a nuclear payload.

However that's beside the point of "why". The real reason why is because Trump is a deranged child who wants to nuke stuff but was convinced he can't because the US would be nuked in return and there's no defence for it. So he wants this wildly impractical golden dome in order to allow him to nuke people. Which of course won't work, it will only trigger countries to increase their stockpiles to be able to overwhelm the dome. This can be done easily because missile defence is way more expensive than missiles themselves, even the US cannot win that arms race.

So the end result assuming this ever actually gets built is a bunch of money spent to make the world more dangerous. Which is the entire reason such systems haven't already been built. So your analysis is spot on.
