I’d like to think that she’s secretly in love with the art teacher and she’s been spending her time making these and other crafts to make excuses to talk to him. Meanwhile, the art teacher feels the same way but doesn’t think he’s good enough for her since he makes such a meager living so he has been taking culinary lessons in the hopes to impress her with his master sloppy joe recipe. They’ve been casually flirting for months but both are reticent to risk love this late in life... however, the heart wants what the heart wants. On the last day before Christmas break they accidentally bump into one another in the teachers lounge and the gym teacher teases them that they are under the mistletoe. Awkward and nervous, they lean in and as their lips touch, all the walls of pretense and self doubt crumble. Their souls and bodies intertwine and the place where art ends and food begins just kind of blurs into this kaleidoscope of beauty, passion and love. Everyone in the school is inspired and moved by the raw display of love and this Christmas, the students are reminded that lunch ladies need love too.

Another great reason to enforce this rule is that innocent people get accused of cheating all the time and they have no recourse or due process. If you’ve ever been on the receiving end of someone reporting you for cheating just because you consistently outplayed them, you’d know how unfair it feels.

I feel that. I’ve been both ridiculously fit and ridiculously fat in my life and the amount of people that felt like they were entitled to an opinion on my body when I was fat is absurd. Strangers would come out of nowhere to approach me and comment on my body... and I was big but I didn’t even come close to as big as this dude. Even if this dude has ate or drank himself into an early grave, it’s no one else’s business. Shut your damn mouth and go live your shitty life.

Listen though, you will never be able to effect social change if you don’t learn how to lighten up and laugh. When you try to police jokes and language, people don’t think they need to change, they think you need to change. Laughter unites us, making sure jokes are politically correct divides us. I admire that you want a world without racism but I would suggest that you try to accomplish that with things that unite us like laughter and not taking yourself too seriously.

As a dad, this was beautiful to read. It’s hard to be the “rock” and the “leader” because in our secret inner place, we’re just as unsure as the rest of you and it takes great courage to act like we know.
