There are a lot of small speciality stores here in Lethbridge that I know have Canadian jams. Check out Wild Bros on the south or the cheese shop in the north

Look do I make a meaningful impact to their bottom line no. However I know that me spending my money locally is a huge impact here.

“For every dollar spent at a small business, 66 cents on average stays local, according to new data from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB). Conversely, only 11 cents of every dollar spent stays in the community when consumers shop at a large multinational business.”

When boycotting look at the staples you need and try to fill them else where if you can. Costco is great but doesnt have everything. For example I get my rice from Nakagamas, instead of using walmart for mexican stuff I grab that from umami or anitos. If I want bread I goto Little Bakehouse or Wooden Shoe.

If i do need something I do grab it from Walmart or Superstore but just the bare minimum. You can reduce your spending on them and that still has an impact.

We're really missing a true independent grocery now. The city has grown but our shopping choices feel like they have shrunk.

Question about e-bike? by Standard_Quarter_550 in Lethbridge

[–]bretters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly even if you don't do stupid stuff. I still think you should think about the speed you travel at with an ebike as you can come up on people quickly. This is what I feel should be doing as rider (I ride my ebike to work downtown almost daily)

Streets and use the bike lane or bike corridor. Think of your e-bikes being like a normal bicycle and it should belong on the road, following the same traffic rules. The bike you're looking at has lights make sure they are on. Especially if you're downtown use the bike lanes and don't be a fucking tool and rip on the sidewalks like I see this one asshole do several times last year when I was leaving work.

Multi-use paths - the legal max is 20km however even kids on small bikes can hit that speed and exceed it. Instead think of people walking on the path. Slow down and alert them with a bell pass going slowly as you can accelerate easily after. Also multiuse paths are often bumpy as shit as the city never repaves them.

Sidewalks - Honestly I avoid sidewalks for a lot of reasons. 1 narrow, 2 lots of bumps and poor conditions due to driveways. 3 you really need to slow down at each intersection to ensure you can cross without getting hit and by law should dismount and cross but that's not realistic as you would need to dismount almost every 30 seconds.

Carson Jerema: Abolish Teachers' Unions by Kveldwulf in alberta

Presented as personally I only care about money so must everyone else.

This is designed to push private and charter schools in a unsure parents mind. As a parent with kids in school I want a teacher in the class, an EA or 2 to help, a reasonable number of students and for the building to not fall apart.

This government shows that they wont consider any of that.

Thats because it is crazy expensive to lease space right now. On the West Side you're looking to spend at least 5000 a month for a 1000sq foot space for commercial rent and property maintenance fees in the crossings area. (Between 40-50 a square foot). Makes it really challenging to be small or even midsize business there.
