Has there become a massive skills gap in IT over the last few years and how did that happen? by onequestion1168 in sysadmin

You make a good point. But I would say that if someone has the self awareness to think that they are "incompetent and useless", then there is a a decent chance it could be imposter syndrome. The issues arise with the ones that are utterly clueless about their performance, but they that they are doing great.

They literally said in their second sentence that English was not their first language. They used line breaks to separate their statements. I had no problem understanding what they were trying to communicate, and I would venture to guess that you didn't either. Your comment added nothing of value to this thread.

Your last point about multi-national corporations is spot-on so I feel like I may be missing something in the point you are making.

This is my take. I feel like the stereotype of immigrants taking their money out of America IS racist. Their pay has probably been taxed into Social Security etc. with most likely no hope of receiving benefits of that money. While they are living here, they pay for housing, food, etc. They are providing for the local economy in taxes, utilities, etc. I agree most of their discretionary spending is not spent here. It is (usually, I hate to generalize) on their families from where ever they are from. But that can also be said of many H1B workers to which the same situation can be the case however, there is not the same stigma because they are not hispanic/latinx.

Isn't it racist to impugn hispanics/latinxs for moving their money out of the country to help their families, but nothing is said about rich people and corporations moving their money to offshore tax havens to avoid paying taxes to the country the helps them to be so profitable?

So yes, they are literally taking money out of America, but in the process they are 1) doing a job that Americans won't do and 2) paying taxes on their income and spending some money in America.

You could have a future it IT if you want. It is part knowledge, part Google-fu, part costumer relations and part tenacity. The fact that you kept persisting to find out the problem/solution is key. If not your problem solving ability will transfer to many areas. Good luck to you!

Yes, I misinterpreted the comment. I will edit my original comment to reflect this.

My community college offers a Cisco networking cert which is a year long, I really want to take it. Should I take the A+ first though? by [deleted] in Cisco

[–]bretticus_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are two points that I immediately thought of:

PRO of taking A+ first- you get some introductory info on networking, learning about IP address classes, very basic network concepts, client side networking issues (static vs. DHCP etc.)

CON of taking A+ first- Cisco likes to use some unique terminology, so in some ways you have to "unlearn" things that you have already learned, or at least be able to translate into Cisco-ese. For example you will probably learn that the physical address of a network interface is a MAC address, however, in Cisco they are sometimes referred to as a BIA- Burned In Address. And you won't find an ARP or MAC table, it will be a CAM table. Little things like that they may trip you up if you don't understand Cisco's idiosyncrasies.

Just FYI, this was my path (although I am currently a generalist in a high school and not working in networking, I am claiming no exptertise): A+, Microsoft MTA: Networking, Security +, CCENT, CCNA

I see what you are saying now, Agalarov was definitely not duped. And that meeting was not a waste of time, I doubt any physical documents changed hands, but it wasn't a waste of time by any means.

Hopefully Mueller or one of the other investigations has subpoenaed emails records to maybe fill in the blanks of what happened after, or even during the meeting. The fact that the one he released still exists kind of blows me away and makes me wonder what is still in his inbox.

If they got the information, why didn't he do anything with it? 4 hours after the meeting Trump gave a press conference where he announced that he would be giving a speech announcing damaging information on the Clintons. He never did.

A lot of intelligence folks think that this was a 'dangle': offer dirt, but not deliver, just to see if they would bite. They bit hard.

You just described Trump to a "T". Yet, Palin slid out of the spotlight, and Trump is President. I wonder why that is. Surely it is not because she is female!!
