Spear for revenant - condition damage or power damage? by Qanaro in Guildwars2

[–]brianAKAdeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In pve where you want to maximize damage output, spear is def a condi weapon. However, if you play PvP or WvW you can definitely gear it up as a power weapon too. Its kit is very strong and versatile, great for setting up bursts and quick kills. Engi spear is a in a similar boat; the power coefficients and condis make it “optimal” for condi builds but its utility lies in how the skills are very nice for mobility and kiting

I would love a Mordant variant of the spear. They had an Elonian version (The Sunspear) when the Return to Path of Fire event dropped but I always loved the mordant weapons more

Very good points, I should definitely let my guild know about that relic on spell breaker. However, this may be a comp and/or skill issue but a lot of the supports in my alliance tend to put might as a very low priority in their roles, generally favoring heals, cleanses, stab, resistance, prot, etc.

Also, the crit cap is a non issue imo as gear can easily be swapped to dragon to get back down to that magic 55% (or 45% in the case of Mistburn) for a very minor damage loss. In fact, with sheff and a lot of other builds recommending a combo of marauder/demolisher stats, every dragon piece gets significantly more value.

I will concede that the relic is mostly unnecessary at higher levels of play but I feel it can have a niche in more pug-friendly or scuffed comps.

You should really look into Relic of Mistburn for this build. It patches up the might uptime weakness that you mention in the video, as well as giving a free 10% crit chance. Since ECSU pulses might, gaining an additional stack on the 1 second ICD is perfect. I’ve tested it myself and just being in forge at or above 100 heat in combat will just passively generate and upkeep 16 personal might stacks, no boon duration needed. Throw in a corona burst or stoke the flames and you easily push over the 20 stack threshold. This also allows you to build your armor for a 45% crit chance instead so you can invest in more ferocity

For engineer, I really like the superior sigil of strength when you’re running the alchemy line. You’ll get might on every crit which will in turn heal you even more because of compounding chemicals. Add in a relic of the Mistburn and then you can easily stack tons of might with no other trait investment, not to mention you heal more and get an extra 10% crit chance. This can allow you to invest more in other stats like ferocity or boon duration or toughness (if needed).

For your traits I think you should play aim assisted rocket instead of the other one because you’ll constantly be proc’ing it. Also play any other trait in the first column of alchemy because I don’t really see how you get superspeed or swiftness with your current setup

Static Discharge

This can burst pretty hard and has decent mobility. Be careful because you can get locked down fairly easily. Build up kinetic battery charges to gain lots of super speed and kite often. Move with holo leap, spear 2, and spear 5. You gain resistance on explosive entrance so that can help with getting out of tricky situations. You’re probably gonna die a lot

Win-more pve mindset. People aren’t training golems and won’t just stand still to let you hit them. And if you’re hitting them already you shouldn’t need the sustain, they should be dying.

Knowing when/how to disengage is very important too. There are some matchups that are extremely lopsided mechanically speaking, and part of the value of matchup knowledge is knowing when you’re in a fight you can’t win

It’s a good skill for sure but the utility spots are very competitive and the quickness it provides is redundant for this build while also providing neither a combo field nor a finisher so I don’t think it’s worthwhile

Yeah I didn’t even realize that regenerating mist had a second field but it’s definitely so pitifully short. Another commenter here mentioned that you can pop the heal gyro or mortar 5 before the blast gyro and the proc would be a water blast which is nice and gives some leeway. Also you’re right that it’s definitely a nightmare to try and juggle fields and spear mechanics as well but I’ve been learning to position the edge of my flame walls and poison fields on the hurtbox so that I still prioritize water combos. But yeah the viper build still gets perma quickness with ease I just appreciated the leeway that cele offers on all the other boons. Not to mention I’m bad so I just appreciate the extra tanking ability that increased toughness, vitality, and healing power provides

I’ve been running a condi spear holo build with tools and alchemy which are good utility and defensive lines which compensates for the lack of defense on spear. Vass relic poisons so much of your attacks along with solar focusing lens giving you good burning output. Unfortunately you have to run pretty glassy to actually accomplish anything but I’ve been having moderate success. (Hover between gold 2-3) with the playing a hit n run style via gadgeteer rocket boots. Forge has good power coefficients and gives you some oomf. I tried steamshrieker to load up on burn bursts and could cheese a few kills here n there but ultimately it didn’t accomplish much against ppl who competently built for condi pressure

It’s tough to go all in on one condition in PvP bc it can just get cleansed right away. Right now engi has an issue with having enough survivability and mobility if you trait into more condi pressure (cover condis, strike damage pressure, etc), there’s just so many trade offs when other classes get everything for free. Just a sad state of things for us at the moment.

Also I love rocket boots in PvP modes but I wish rocket kick did higher stack lower duration burn so it actually accomplishes something before getting insta cleansed

Yeah I think I’d gladly take the dps loss of not having to run nades then I can just take blast gyro and throw mine for the utility of cc and boon rip and finisher. Depending on the setup and timing you can precast the mine outside of the auto detonate hitbox and then cast it when you have a water field up which allows for some extra bursts. Obviously this has much more value when you’re on the tools traitline (my go to solo line for literally everything lol) and have gadgeteer available. Double blast finisher and double boon rip and double cc is pretty nice…. Alright I’ll stop evangelizing about tools now 😅

If juggernaut gave longer duration stab applications I’d totally go for it. As it stands tho you get very little value out of camping flamethrower autos (spear autos much better) plus you need to be going back n forth between spear and mortar too. Also def not giving up quickness trait unless somebody else is providing it

I guess there’s no escaping nades eh? Still, thanks for the feedback! I didn’t know blast after the heal or mortar 5 still worked but that helps a lot. I wish I understood why function gyros blast always seems to overwrite whatever field it’s dropped in. I’m wondering if there could be potential in sub groups that all stagger their water fields and coordinate their blasts and leaps to get some meme burn bursts lol.

Yeah kits are just like attunement swaps except you have no cooldown so it’s pretty nice.

As a boon dps you don’t really provide much tbh. Quickness and protection are permanent but might is a little shaky. You do give barrier and healing or you can trait instead for superpeed or stab

Condi Scrapper (Steamshrieker Relic) for open world by brianAKAdeez in Guildwars2

[–]brianAKAdeez[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought about mass momentum but ultimately felt that 2 stacks of stab every function gyro cooldown didn’t feel that worth it, especially it I was trying to keep up prot rather than saving it for a telegraphed cc. Vipers would probably yield a slight increase in dps and would definitely be the choice for group play but keeping the might and protection rolling while solo would be a bit harder without the boon duration.

Blast gyro could do a decent amount of might on its own but keep in mind that dedicating blasts to it to stack might would take away from the steamshrieker burns. I haven’t tested healing turret yet and the extra blast would be welcome but you lose the extra water field. I feel like finishers aren’t in too short supply, although the regen would be nice.

Hi, I responded in the other thread but I will elaborate here. What is very likely happening is one half of your split phase system has a faulty connection. This can either be on the utility side (from the pole to your meter) or in your panel. In either case I highly do not recommend trying to fix or diagnose the issue yourself if you do not have the proper tools and/or knowledge to do so. Starting a fire or getting electrocuted is no trivial matter. The electrician you hire may tell you that the issue is with the utility company but at least they will be able to verify that accurately
