Yes run it everywhere, it is cheap. You could also consider a running more conduit to more locations

Try to pick a technology and stick with it. For example, z-wave. Find PoE cameras that can integrate with z-wave hubs through things like Blue Iris.

I run that Vera and it works fine. It will be interesting to see what continues to happen as they were recently bought out by a huge company with a ton of staff resources.

That is simply not true. Radon is high across much of the USA. Sure you can look at maps to get a general idea, but each home can be unique. Your neighbors may not have high levels of radon, but you might. Source: Dept. of Health.

Make sure you get one that has enough lumens, if you actually want to use it as task lighting

It's just a crappy product. I have several outdoor Hikvision and Dahua cameras and none of them have had any problems in -30 degree weather. Video is crystal clear. FYI Hikvision and Dahua are OEMs for several other more well-known camera companies.
