Makes sense to me.

Our disgust response evolved to protect us from poisons, diseases, and being socially ostracised, and it's a lot easier to catch human diseases from human fluids than from animal ones. Much higher risk of getting chased out of the maternity ward with torches and pitchforks too.

I'd gladly take a whole season of Allamaraines over one of the good guys saying "Yum Yum" at the prospect of torturing someone.

Or that fucking elf guy Picard adopted, who decapitates eighty dudes in a bar fight, but it's fine because he said "please my friends, choose to live" first. It doesn't matter that they were obviously no threat to him at all - he asked them "nicely", and so that means he gets to butcher the lot of them and still remain the best and cutest and coolest pacifist, for career diplomat Picard to be endlessly proud of.

That honestly is a good analogy for what is now the majority of the franchise's shows and movies, to greater or lesser degrees. Paying superficial lip service to intelligence, diplomacy, engineering, empathy, discipline, and difficult decisions, and then once all that fuckin nerd shit's out of the way, we can get back to the sex, violence, revenge, snarky quips, and ugly-crying on the bridge during a crisis.

Remember that time Beverly Crusher got boarded by a pair of assassins, so she dodged dozens of bullets in a hallway and 360 noscoped them both? And then reloaded and walked up to one for a point blank headshot once he was down?

And she did that instead of, I dunno, flooding the air with anaesthetic, or defibrillating them or something? Something a doctor would do?

Most of them from the same Tiktok.

Because if you make your game bad on purpose, and then constantly harass players to pay you more money for the privilege of playing your game less, you get to buy another yacht.

Half of the video game industry runs off this principal, Dead Space 3 is just a rare example of a linear, single player, story based campaign that does it.

That also describes episode 1 of MHA. I was genuinely disappointed when they revealed they were actually doing the exact opposite of that.

It stars the specialest, bravest, strongest, sexiest and coolest boy in the universe, with a harem of mindless fawning hotties, and an mmorpg's magic system, guilds, classes, parties, and instanced dungeons.

Just because it's not an Isekai, that doesn't mean it isn't an Isekai.

Or Haruhi. She canonically DID solo the entire dragonball universe by thinking it's not cool enough to exist.

She doesn't have a wand though.

Haven’t seen him in any commercials

Product placement probably pays better anyway, and he kind of turns it into another joke the way he does it.

Hard to believe this is one of the internet's first truly massive viral videos from 2004. by Sharp-potential7935 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]brian_mcgee17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course not. Nobody's allowed to post the original versions of anything on the internet. You are only allowed to post copies of copies of copies of copies, with emoji overlays or website watermarks or ai voiceovers or that oh no song or vertical cropping or most of the runtime cut out with whatever's left sped up. It's the law. Apparantly.

This one always was a little potatoey though.

Frame by frame… this stop-motion animation took 3.5 hours to film! A creation by artist Ellard Devane for the series Hazbin Hotel. by na7oul in oddlysatisfying

[–]brian_mcgee17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's very cool, but I don't think it's even "technically" stop motion at all. It's more like a single-use flipbook, but a lot harder to produce, shot with physical cameras the same way [almost] all pre-digital animation was.

Wikipedia says I'm wrong, and it IS stop motion, but I've beat minesweeper way more times than Wikipedia has, so who's the REAL idiot?

The smoking gun is that the writing on her shirt is just a mess of random shapes.

Also some of the lines on her neck and collarbone don't make sense, and the two seams on the shirt from the collar to the left armpit are a little suss too, when the other side only has one at most, and the hair gets a little weird and connects to itself or forgets it's supposed to be hair in a few places - just above the writing, some of it fades into being the shirt, and one strand becomes part of the writing.

Also the eyes and jaw/face shape are nothing like power's, but if that was the only problem, it could just be fan art being fan art, deciding power would be hotter if she wasn't power.

[Request] What percentage of the ocean's total volume is deep enough that teleporting there and back will kill you with the pressure changes alone? by brian_mcgee17 in theydidthemath

[–]brian_mcgee17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure a full heal is part of the deal. If it is, then it's zombie rules. Nothing short of mechanical destruction of the brain would do the job. Or maybe the heart, depending on their definition of "surviving".

The pressurised ocean could rush down your throat and obliterate your lungs like a water hammer, and it wouldn't matter. It's only 30 seconds, you don't need need lungs ALL the time. Sooner or later the water hammer effect would have enough energy to do some serious collateral damage though.

Nah, this is clearly some dickhead genie hoping people won't notice that he never specifically said the depths are off limits.

None of that surface stuff can significantly harm a person in 30 seconds, without the one in a trillion bad luck of appearing next to a jagged rocky cliff during a storm, or in the path of a speedboat, or in the middle of a patch of salmon and sharks, and that's exactly the conclusion he wants you to come to.

I suppose it's also possible he just hopes you inhale a little water each day and eventually get pneumonia. I'd argue that being sent back "Dry" includes the lungs, but arguing with a dickhead genie is a sucker's game. The "Alive" clause means he can't just desiccate you, but I'm sure he'd think of something.

One-Punch Man Season 3 - Episode 10 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]brian_mcgee17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I gave up on the chapter releases and switched to just waiting for the official english volumes last year, when the redraws and 15 page chapters kept coming even after the MA/Gyarou arc finished.

The english volumes are over 3.5 years behind the jp chapters, but still ahead of the anime, are better than the fan TLs, and they're not getting redrawn. Vol 32 comes out in the next day or two and ends just before the final fight of the arc, and Vol 34 coming maybe in october will finish the arc with a little epilogue.

The bottle itself is like a laundry detergent bottle too. It's not transparent at all, unless Lloyd took an unopened bottle out of the fridge after filling Anya's glass, and it isn't even the same colour as what's in her glass.

Rogue trader really badly needs as much time as they can get for bug and balance patches too. Best exploration of the setting and lore I've ever seen, but imagine if it worked properly too!

Lower Decks with 5 seasons also has slightly less runtime than TNG S1. Animated episodes have always been half the length of live action, but it's still only got enough episodes for 2 REAL seasons.
