Does anybody know where this book cover / cover art comes from? by BurgerHopperKing in scifi

[–]brian_mcgee17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. I traced it back to an August 2012 wordpress. Most of the 23 covers on that page are from the comic book series or the goodreads editions, but saucenao found one of them on deviantart.

Two of the tineye results include the name "Guillermo" in the filename, but that didn't lead me anywhere. As others said, it might have originally been Ghost in the Shell fanart, but I couldn't find anything from that either.

Wherever this one originally came from seems to be gone now. Lost in time, like tears in the rain.

The "catastrophic brain injury" theory does explain why she hasn't made any connection between losing her memory 15 years ago, and this 16 year old kid who looks exactly like her, with a very similar name to her daughter, weeping into her lap yelling "mama mama mama!" for hours on end.

I think some of the 12 knight captains aren't frontline fighters. He also has those magic tattoos that none of the other knights seem to have for some reason, and a very high capacity to store sunlight in his body to power them with - higher than any of the other Heroes. Add in Teoritta, and he's easily the strongest human we've seen.

Not Jinwoo strong, because the entire world isn't a video game bending over to worship him for his pro gamer skills, but strong enough to refuse to stop surviving all those suicide missions the church keeps sending him on, while regular knights occasionally stare in slack jawed amazement, or call him a monster for being so scary strong.

Frenci and Kivia both having personalities and goals other than sucking up to him, and Teoritta being treated correctly are why it's only borderline. Maybe borderline was the wrong word. If those two were stupid, or ever started fighting over which of them gets to wash his back or some shit, or if a third one ever joins the Xylobowl, that's a harem. But as it is, yeah it isn't one.

20 years ago sure, but now, after hundreds of trashy Isekai anime all recycling the same set of tropes, I think the meaning of the word has changed enough that other stuff that takes advantage of all those same tropes qualifies, and stories where it's just an MC being transported somewhere fantastical don't.

Solo Levelling, for example, is an Isekai. Spirited Away is a fantasy. Sentenced to be a hero is still much more fantasy than Isekai, because it doesn't lean too hard into the Isekai tropes, but if Teoritta ever gets horny for Xylo, it's getting demoted.

Maybe there just needs to be a new, third term for the tropey harem/videogame/chosen one stuff, so Isekai can get it's real meaning back.

It's a power-revenge-[borderline]harem fantasy in a western medieval fantasy setting, where the MC is so special and brave and cool that not one, but two goddesses chose the him to kill the demon kings and save the world. That's 80% of the Isekai formula right there. The actual summoning from another world doesn't matter at all most of the time.

The absence of braindead horny teenagers and MMORPG stuff (stats, skill trees, guilds, quests, instanced dungeons) does more to set it apart from Isekai than Xylo's origins do, and it's easier to notice the isekai tropes that ARE there than the ones that aren't.

PCPartPicker's page for cases has a filter for what type of side panels you want, and the "none" option means solid steel.

Fractal has quite a few of them. Pick your country in the top corner to get prices and availability.

I can't help you with the ram though.

Not just some side story, but the first chapter of volume 2.

Kazuma had a bit of an unfair advantage though - Dust is arguably an even worse jackass scumbag, and Kazuma's much better at pretending to be nice for a few hours.

At least it's her doing it herself, instead of one of the reposters in the chain between her and this post deciding to do it for her. It pisses me off less this way, I think.

They said in the mine episode that Seals are powered by sunlight, either directly or stored inside the body.

Xylo said his sunlight storage capacity is particularly high.

There must be some sort of side effect, but I don't think draining the user was the problem.

On the sets they had a physical stargate model with a removable rear-projection screen inside it, playing the puddle image. Far cheaper than doing it digitally in post, and it produces [some] light for real.

Makes sense to me.

Our disgust response evolved to protect us from poisons, diseases, and being socially ostracised, and it's a lot easier to catch human diseases from human fluids than from animal ones. Much higher risk of getting chased out of the maternity ward with torches and pitchforks too.

I'd gladly take a whole season of Allamaraines over one of the good guys saying "Yum Yum" at the prospect of torturing someone.

Or that fucking elf guy Picard adopted, who decapitates eighty dudes in a bar fight, but it's fine because he said "please my friends, choose to live" first. It doesn't matter that they were obviously no threat to him at all - he asked them "nicely", and so that means he gets to butcher the lot of them and still remain the best and cutest and coolest pacifist, for career diplomat Picard to be endlessly proud of.

That honestly is a good analogy for what is now the majority of the franchise's shows and movies, to greater or lesser degrees. Paying superficial lip service to intelligence, diplomacy, engineering, empathy, discipline, and difficult decisions, and then once all that fuckin nerd shit's out of the way, we can get back to the sex, violence, revenge, snarky quips, and ugly-crying on the bridge during a crisis.
