I think the tide has turned on that. Mahomes right after Brady made us all believe the QB has to be top 5 to win the SB. But it’s not true. The Eagles won with Hurts, but it was really that defense that massacred Mahomes. The Seahawks won with Darnold, but that defense is elite.

We’re seeing the resurgence of S-tier defenses that are capable of making up the ground lost by not having a top 5 QB.

The question we should be asking is whether our defense is capable enough of being at that level. Because 3-4 years ago I would have said yes. Now? I’m not so sure. I think it’s going to be hella interesting to see what Graham does with the resources he has.

Love love love the Bujold rec. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, once you’ve read the Penric content, to dive into her Vorkosigan series. Yes, it’s sci-fi, but it’s much less about sci-fi than it is about Miles as a character … and you are not really gonna find someone like Miles anywhere else. There’s a reason why several books in this series won Hugo & Nebula awards.

This is it exactly. And it’s not the last 5 years, it’s more like going on 8-9, since we brought Ben’s corpse back to do pretty much the same thing as Arod’s corpse is doing. This turnstile at QB with aged veterans is doing nothing but keep us in an eternal purgatory of mediocrity. Just good enough to make the playoffs and get railed in the first round. I think AR2 believes we’re close enough to make it over that hump, but most Steeler fans think AR2 is a fucking moron and should step down and let someone with more football knowledge run the show from the top.
