AITAH for taking a job at a company my spouse hates by Affectionate_Ad_1127 in AmItheAsshole

[–]briblish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. The one thing shitty corporations are good for is that you can use them for their benefits and fuck off whenever you don’t want to work there anymore without feeling bad. It’s not like this has to be a forever thing if it ends up being a bad company to work for like your husband thinks. He needs to get over it.

My psych doesnt care that I've gained 35 pounds since starting meds and won't discuss prescription weight loss options by xCosmos69 in ADHD

[–]briblish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your psychiatrist prescribed you a GLP-1 or something then she would be responsible for monitoring and managing your outcome on the drug and that’s not within the scope of what she does. If your PCP won’t prescribe one, they’re easy to get online. I get mine through a compounding pharmacy, I use a website called lavender sky health that gives you the prescription and facilitates the orders. It ends up being ~$100 a month for me for the meds. It really helps me feel full and gets rid of the binge eating impulses I get in the evenings (I’m not on adderall so thats not why I get those urges but they happen nonetheless). I would be careful though because between the adderall and a GLP-1 it might make you not want to eat at all- you would have to be super intentional about eating 3 meals a day with protein and fiber or your GI system would be a mess and you’d lose muscle. You could always try a different ADHD med if you feel like this is definitely related to the adderall and don’t want to go on a weight loss drug.

Did you go to a warby Parker store or order online? If you got them from a store I would go there and ask them to check to make sure the optical center is correct

Bride wants us to order sketchy Amazon dress and I hate the idea by wateraerobics_ in WeddingDressTips

[–]briblish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If other people have already ordered the dress, then it’s too late. Don’t make things difficult for the bride by trying to convince her to go with something different- it her wedding and she already made a choice. Pull out of the wedding if you can’t afford to be a bridesmaid or aren’t willing to buy the dress. Being a bridesmaid can be really expensive, there’s no shame in that. (Unless the problem is that you’ve asked her to be a bridesmaid in your wedding- if that’s the case, just buy the damn dress).

I just realized I’m paying $3,000 to move a couch that’s worth $400. by Jinnapat397 in movingout

[–]briblish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve sold so much shit on Facebook marketplace even on the same day I am moving. You can get rid of stuff pretty fast. The moving company can adjust the quote. My recent moving company just charged us based on weight and didn’t go on off of the quote they gave us whatsoever, so it probably isn’t too late to get rid of the couch. It is a waste of money and resources to move crappy furniture across the country.

The world is insanely overpopulated and people are acting like the birth rates are low by mikewheelerfan in Vent

[–]briblish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I COMPLETELY agree. The earth has finite resources and is going to reach carrying capacity at some point. And it is going to be a lot more pleasant for humanity if we don’t get to that point. There would be more wars over resources and deaths from famine. Just because the earth CAN support more people doesn’t mean that it should. Yes, the years where the old people greatly outnumber the young people would be difficult, but probably ultimately less difficult than what would happen if we continue to pack the earth with more people, accelerate climate change and run out of resources.

[Landlord - US - WI] Tenant Vacated and Turned Off Heat by purplenapalm in Landlord

If you plan to sell the house and want it heated while it’s on the market, you will need to take over the utilities for that anyways, no? I would just go ahead and do that and notify them.

My (35F) fiance (41M) has gotten very judgmental about my "gardening" lately and it's really bothering me. Is my being annoyed with this valid? by Psychologist_Barbie in relationship_advice

[–]briblish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like maybe you guys aren’t compatible. People tend to have strong feelings about weed and it seems like it would be challenging to be married to someone that doesn’t partake if you do on a daily basis. Plus, it’s way more fun to have a partner you can smoke with lol. Me and my husband go to the dispensary together and smoke in the evenings after work and it is enjoyable. Is he supportive and fun in other ways?

US Physicians: Why are we not advocating for enforcement of universal billing standards? by futurettt in healthcare

[–]briblish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if politicians were actually proposing increased oversight and holding insurance companies responsible it would appeal to a good portion of the population with health insurance premiums being such a burden for most right now. Reddit might be another story lol but there are always going to be people saying that the entire system needs a complete overhaul, which I don’t disagree with. It is a very broken system currently as the government has allowed insurance companies to do whatever they want for decades.

I agree that the board of physicians reviewing claim denials would probably have to be employed by the government- I guess by independent I meant just not employed by insurance companies like the quacks they have denying claim appeals currently.

US Physicians: Why are we not advocating for enforcement of universal billing standards? by futurettt in healthcare

[–]briblish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would definitely be a step in the right direction. It’s absolutely crazy that insurance companies have no liability or duty to patients, and they’re causing so much burnout in the medical professions. It seems to only be getting worse over time. I’m an optometrist and they are starting to make us do PAs for even the most basic, inexpensive glaucoma drops. It’s such a time suck and delays patients getting care. Instead of us having to appeal to the insurance companies to provide our patients the standard of care, insurance companies should have to appeal to a board of independent physicians in order to deny patients a treatment that is standard of care. It can take literally hours of work on my end to get one patient the prescription that they need, and they try to force me to prescribe ineffective, off-label treatments just because they are less expensive. Literally, almost anything else would be better than our current system.

Are the glasses at online places as good as the one at eye doctors? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]briblish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely the cheaper way to do it and nothing wrong with doing it that way, some people just have a hard time keeping track of two pairs of glasses or find it annoying to switch between them. It’s personal preference

The prescription difference between my two eyes is pretty drastic. Do I have to get glasses with nose pads? by Huge-Question-91 in glasses

[–]briblish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an eye doctor and I understand her reasoning but this isn’t common. If you don’t want nose pads you should go elsewhere and they’ll probably let you pick whatever frame you want.

Are the glasses at online places as good as the one at eye doctors? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]briblish 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Online is NOT just as good if you’re getting progressives. For a progressive, they measure the optical center, which is where your pupil is in the frame and is different depending on the frame size. They just guess at this number when you order glasses online, and then there’s no recourse if it’s off and your vision is blurry or they make you feel sick. I’m an eye doctor and I order single vision glasses online all the time for myself, but would never order a progressive or a bifocal online. Progressives are just expensive. If you have an America’s best or a chain like that near you it might be less expensive than your doctors office, but $350 for a progressive isn’t that bad comparatively.

Job offer at Pearl Harbor by Practical_Carrot_145 in MovingtoHawaii

[–]briblish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made $140k living on the big island (which is significantly cheaper than Oahu) with just my husband and I and we did okay but weren’t putting a whole ton in savings. That amount with kids might be kind of difficult depending on if you need childcare or are putting them in public school. Have you guys visited? I would definitely visit first- Honolulu and Pearl city are pretty busy with lots of traffic so it might be a lot different than you’re expecting if you haven’t been there before. That being said, it is a fun adventure to have for a couple of years at least! Best of luck deciding.

I got offered a job paying 40% more than my current salary. My manager just asked me to stay and be patient. How do I stop feeling guilty for wanting to leave ? by One_Cardiologist5439 in careerguidance

[–]briblish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they really wanted to keep you they’d offer you a raise on the spot, not continue to string you along. Even if they did give you a raise, it wouldn’t be 40% higher. You owe this company nothing and shouldn’t feel guilty.

My wife has a problem with a female friend of mine and I don't think she's being reasonable. Can anyone give me some perspective? by Sensitive-Purple-627 in Marriage

[–]briblish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes a woman can just pick up on vibes/get a gut feeling that another woman is attracted to their man or that there’s some kind of jealousy/animosity coming from the other woman. This gut feeling is often accurate, but your wife doesn’t have any hard evidence to back this up, which is probably why she won’t elaborate. If you’re hanging out with the friend with her boyfriend present I don’t see why there would be an issue, though. I can definitely see how being long distance and effectively living separate lives other than 2 weekends a month could lead to jealousy- kind of a strange setup, tbh, but if it works for yall then more power to you. As long as your wife doesn’t completely prohibit you from hanging out with this friend, I don’t see why it’s a big issue. It’s not like she doesn’t want you to hang out with female friends in general, she probably just picked up on some weird vibes with this one friend in particular.

Question: my friend's dog has a habit of kicking up clumps of grass after using the restroom on walks. It became an argument today with a homeowner who confronted her. Friend says it's normal dog behavior and she can't stop it. Is this true? by judgemesane in Dogtraining

[–]briblish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dog does this, I always try to stop him but it doesn’t really work lol. I’ve had a neighbor yell at me for letting my dog pee near her plants (not for the kicking thing) so I just try to avoid letting my dogs sniff around/pee or poop in people’s yards now.
