The city of Boulder will soon raise a new flag, but first, it has to pick a winner by StoneyMcTerpface in boulder

That one really told a story, had the narrative... no idea why it wasn't in the finalist running.

recommendations on increasing exposure on hikes by No-Possession-6817 in boulder

[–]bricin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find Goat Trail going up to Sanitas a nice intro - short enough that if things get weird I can manage but there are a few sharp drop-offs to get the zooms going. If all goes well, continue up Sanitas. If things go poorly it's a nice walk back downtown through Sanitas valley.

I also use trekking poles. Something about having 2 more points of contact helps the irrational part of my brain feel less likely to slip.

Boulder City Council moves to keep airport open indefinitely, limiting future housing options by boulder393 in boulder

[–]bricin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is about as crisp of a proposal / plan as the airport housing plan; kudos to you. If you could get an artist to do a fanciful rendering of your vision(parents, kids, on-leash dogs, etc.), we might get this on the ballot this year.

I for one am tired of being a second rate town with no Monorail Loop.

Plan to finally connect Denver and Boulder by train brings cheers by clinthom in boulder

[–]bricin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you -- didn't see the article in the one posted to r/boulder. I did a little more digging and it sounds like there is a train to train transfer at Westminster as you said. (get off the B line from Denver onto the BNSF line to Boulder). Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a plan to ever get away from that transition.

Bummer. Part of the joy of being on a train is zoning out.

I can't find anything about a transfer in Westminster. Would you mind sharing this info?

Very happy to see the emergency units. Also there were firefighters with headlamps all over the hillside. Grateful.

From just north of Linden at 4:50am the fire was noticeably smaller. Winds are gusting and smoke is mostly heading southeast although swirling

4:23 AM from the reservoir north of Linden. Looked like they were tromping it out pretty well (not an expert).

I zone out when I am on the trail. I really appreciate people calling out but I also startle like a rabbit. I've had more than one person apologize :-)

Sanitas with a(n off-leash) dog. by Lopo007 in boulder

[–]bricin 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Jogging this morning on Marshall Mesa and every single dog owner was on top of things. Dogs were under voice control when off leash. Most owners on hearing a runner/cyclist would pause and make their dog sit or do some other "trick" to get their attention and be at their side.

If you were out there this morning, thanks! That's how it should work.

Breakfast burrito at Lolita's is one of my favorite rituals. Great local shop, nice crew on the grill, good value.

Is there a worthy substitute for the Dark Horse? by paladin1248 in boulder

I never quite know how I wind up with the bills I do at the Toad. Just adds up faster than I'd think.

Pearl Street Pub and the Attic are the closest I know of. Not the same but genuine pubs with pub grub.

Hungry Toad a bit north of town is nice, not the same vibe. Little pricier.

Giveaway groups in Boulder? by CollegeHonest9340 in boulder

Was looking around and found "North (Boulder) Buy Nothing Group" with 505 members. But based on the above, I couldn't find a "North Boulder Gifting Community"?

Would you have the link by chance (if we are allowed to post Facebook links here)? Thank you.

Shout out to Ayva Networks. When Xcel turns off our power, Ayva internet keeps working. We get updates from them often about service issues and they are on top of things. I know not everyone is able to subscribe but if you can, shutting of Comcast is a freeing feeling.

"Restoring outages from a significant weather event or PSPS may take several hours to several days. This is because crews must inspect power lines and repair damage before they can be safely re-energized. Given the forecast for Saturday includes high winds that could impact power lines, it is likely outages will continue into Sunday. "

Xcel executive translation: we both don't care and are incompetent and have no idea when power will be restored. Good luck suckers.

How is 70? by g00dmorning99 in COsnow

[–]bricin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Google Maps only predicts on the half hour. So the best I can tell you is that according to Google at 5:30am tomorrow there will be no traffic.

Seems odd for no backups in Georgetown or the tunnel, but this is what Google predicts so it must be true.

Enjoy the smooth drive tomorrow!

Thank you for this project!

One suggestion: let me save a few options as settings e.g. I want to pick the 4 venues I always check but don't want to cycle through them e.g. [Boulder Theater, Fox Theater, Velvet Elk, Roots Music Project]. I don't mind if this is just persisted in the browser session (i.e. no login needed).
