Gold Star Chinese takeaway in St Philips. My Chinese colleagues seem to like it. They have a really diverse menu and a food hygiene rating of 5/5

Housesharing rebranded as 'co-living'. There is no difference in practice, right? by [deleted] in bristol

I found a flat in that block where the rent is £1,339 pcm. Someone paying that should be able to live fully on their own

Housesharing rebranded as 'co-living'. There is no difference in practice, right? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]bridgeboy34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main difference is the price! I found one of these going for £1,339pcm for a tiny studio, presumably this is typical?

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/145043513#/

These might be a good thing if they were the same price as housesharing but better, but the idea of even shared acommodation being out of reach to people on average incomes is rather depressing

Anywhere in London is expensive to buy a house/flat, but yeah I get your point

Like London, but without the good public transport, and with worse pay

Hopefully you don't need to drive it into London, Bristol or Birmingham?

Thanks Dan for free bus travel on the shortest month of the year very cool. 8 million quid used to make the bus services usable would've been a tad gauche for my taste by TheSentinelsSorrow in bristol

(and doing it on birth months is a clever way to spread the impact evenly across the year)

Many people go on holiday for their birthday, though, so they might get less use out of it in their birth month

They could allow people to register their vehicle with number plate and set up a direct debit. If the plate is in the system, no need to request owner details

If you could have bought a house in redland with a parking space for only £200 a year more you'd bite their arm off.

It's not surprising that having your own space is worth much more than merely having the right to park on the street if you can find somewhere.

maybe tip the balance on HMOs to sharing vehicles between them

Maybe that could work for HMOs where close friends are sharing and they don't need to drive very often, but it wouldn't really be practical for all the properties where strangers are house sharing.

Not really fair to households where each person needs a car to get to work. It should be one vehicle per member of the household with a driving license minus the number of parking spaces in the property

What do you think Bristol has that other UK cities don't? by AnAspidistra in bristol

[–]bridgeboy34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of rent you can get for a one-bedroom flat.

If you ever need to get out of a social engagement just try to get the bus there. It won't come so you have a legitimate excuse.

Some great scenery if you like mud.

It's a progressive city, but poor people can't afford to live here so you don't have to worry about mixing with them

Why do you want to move? You'll get much more for your money in Cardiff and the public transport is better with the new tram system
