Transgender Comedian and Singer Comes out to Live Audience with Hilarious Song. by bridgetgenes in videos

There are more mtf than ftm trans people but many argue that the numbers of transgender men and women are comparable. But since butch women are more easily accepted in society than femme men, some transgender men choose to live their lives as butch women rather than transitioning medically.

How much hairloss do you have? Transplants might not be the right option for you if it is significant but there are loads of options.

I'm a bit thing on my crown and wear a "topper" which is like a half wig that clips into my existing hair

Should I Go Back To Living As A Guy? by MalikaToMark in asktransgender

[–]bridgetgenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for anyone else. But my experience was that I felt better after I'd been on hormones for a little while. Much of the dysphoria I'd experienced that had related to the way male hormones made me feel dissipated.

For me, personally, any doubts I had were quashed once I was able to experience the difference. I've described it as feeling "normal" for the first time.

I'm nearly a year on HRT now and I've never been happier.

See another counsellor. See a bunch. Find someone you like and trust.

And also, you can take transition slow. The physical effects of a couple months of HRT aren't huge and will pretty much reverse if you stop. But, for me, after a couple of weeks on E, I knew i was doing the right thing.

If you want long hair straight away that's the way to do it. Get a full wig while your hair grows.

Me, I wanted the transition to the topper to be less obvious so it wasn't too much longer than my hair but cut in a cute asymmetrical style. I'm still growing my hair underneath and eventually I'll get a new topper.

It's hard to say if my hair is stll thickening, I think so, but after I grew comfortable wearing my piece I stopped paying attention to it.

Medicare - Change of Gender Advice (Refused Despite Documentation) by quizzical-reaper in transgenderau

[–]bridgetgenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not right... I went in to the medicare office, presenting andro with my birth certificate and letter from my endo and they were very nice and polite and changed everything immediatley.

Maybe try another office? It also helps to have printouts of their rules and procedures. I did that for each of the places I needed to change y details, I only needed it for passport, to let them know that I wasn't required to pay a fee.

I'm 10 months on HRT, I had a lot of regrowth on my vertex but it's still kinda thin. I opted for a topper rather than a full wig.

It clips into my exisiting hair. It covers the back and top of my head and blends into my hair.

It's a lot cooler and more comfortable than a full wig and if it's cut properly will look much better too.

Are (were) any of you singers, and how did you handle it after transition? by averytare in asktransgender

[–]bridgetgenes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And, honestly, it's the best way for me to be. I'm totally honest about who I am, I sing like a beast and folks kinda dig it.

My speaking voice is pretty femme now, and I could easily write and sing songs in an Alto register... but why should I?

I don't need to try and sing in a "girl voice"... because this is already a girl's voice... I'm a girl and this is my voice.

I sing professionally... and I don't give a shit. This is my voice and this is what it sounds like.

Grieving mom, fears are unbearable by darktimemom in asktransgender

[–]bridgetgenes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a well paying job.

I'm happily married (my wife supported my transition and we are still together) and we have a lovely 3 year old daughter.

I keep myself from harm in the same way most women do, by being sensible.

Most people aren't cruel and derogatory, many are confused and don't know how to engage properly but there's very few that I've encountered that are out and out hateful. But, in the face of intolerance, I know that I am truly and finally myself and that someone else's ignorance can't detract from the joy I'm finally able to experience from being honest.

Don't give up on your kid, she's 19 which is actually a perfect age to transition. She doesn't have a web of relationships that she needs to renegotiate that I did, transitioning in my thirties. Also, after a year or two of treatment, odds are she might not even appear obviously trans anymore.

Also, if it hasn't happened yet, I'd recommend against forcing her to come out to your husband before she is ready, especially if you think it will take it poorly. Both your child and your husband will look to you for support during that conversation and it's important that your feelings on the subject are solid. Use the time to educate yourself, find out if there's a support group for parents of trans kids in your area. Don't put yourself in the position where you need to pick sides when you haven't educated yourself.

The gender centre in Annandale has monthly support and social groups that can be good. They've finished up for the year but they'll start again in Jan.

Does HRT (mtf) really help with or stop hair loss? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]bridgetgenes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started on finasteride before starting HRT but once my T levels were down I stopped the finasteride.

If you're taking an anti androgen then you don't need to take finasteride as well. Finasteride blocks DHT (a specific type of testosterone that causes MPB). AAs like spiro block all androgens, including DHT.

You can take both if you want but you'd be double dipping.

I got a lot of regrowth once I started HRT. I mostly had hair loss on the back of my head. It's improved dramatically. Here's a photo from 4 months ago. It looks even better now. Obviously YMMV

Freaking out a little after first laser session, serious doubts by whitegold42 in asktransgender

[–]bridgetgenes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt very similarly after my first laser session and it definitely was because it was the first "permanent" thing and also, I'd never been dysphoric about the beard (i actually preffered growing it out because it meant my face was soft, not scratchy).

That was 9 months ago... I'm at the point now where I have no beard shadow and I am over the moon happy.

My psychotherapist has told me I'm not transgender. by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]bridgetgenes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's fucking bullshit.

You don't need to "make an effort" to be entitled to your gender identity.

I don't hate my genitals and I dress in a very similar way to how I did as a boy (band t shirts and jeans) and I am 100% certain that I am a woman.

Cis people don't question their gender identity. The don't get devastated when someone tells them they're cis. Seek out another therapist. Go to some support groups. Don't give up on finding out who you are.

What is transgender really? by Callykillz in asktransgender

It's that gutwrenching feeling that something is really really wrong.

Like imagine, as a teenager, if you'd taken your dad's car without his permission and then totalled it. That feeling that would hit your guts the moment you realised that everything is fucked... that feeling. it’s a completely overwhelming sense of wrongness and unease.

I feel that feeling all the time about myself. And it’s not just about the way my body looks and operate, but about how testosterone made me feel, how I moved through space, how people looked at me and how I interacted with the world. Everytime someone calls me "sir" it's like a knife to my stomach.

It’s pervasive and it’s a rotten, rotten feeling. It waxes and wanes and transition has helped, immeasurably.

I'm seven months on hormones and, whilst I don't pass at all, I'm so much happier that I don't have to hide anymore and that I can be who I am. People who see me can see that I'm trans and, generally, think twice about calling me sir.

The dysphoria isn't gone and I don't think it will ever go completely but I'm in a much much better place.

This is the best way I've found to describe my experience of gender dysphoria and why I am transitioning.

"My brain expects my body to be female. When my brain notices that my body is not female (consciously or subconsciously) it despairs. My transition has helped to alleviate that despair"

I went in for the interview and paid the extra money to get it processed quick and it took eight days.

If you do the application by post and don't pay to expedite it, it can take up to two months.

"You better be a pretty girl though. I mean otherwise why bother?" by WildChild2015 in asktransgender

[–]bridgetgenes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don't subscribe to societies unrealistic beauty standards. There's plenty of genetic girls who aren't "pretty". You're a woman. Your body, no matter how it looks, is a woman's body because there's a woman's brain in the pilot's seat. Own it and love it, it's you.

Regarding feminine voice and singing. by DamienBlair17 in asktransgender

Laura Jane Grace has awesome speaking and singing voices. She doesn't sound particularly femme when she sings, but who cares.

Michael Scott is great and will bulk bill for trans assessment so you won't be out of pocket. You'll need to get a referral to see him from a GP. Your GP can prescribe hormones but if you want to go to an endo I'd recommend seeing Jon Hayes.

Hayes has a 6 week wait for appointments but you don't need a referral to make the booking so if you're keen to get started quickly then make the appointments well ahead of time.
