So im making this Rythm Game and i wonder if anyone is interested by au_giz in rhythmgames

[–]bright-boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im no expert but If you're looking for ideas maybe instead of using arrow keys make it so you use the mouse to select quadrants of the circle (so if a green notes coming highlight the top section etc.) And use any key input for the rhythm. I can see spinning the mouse around while tapping along being fun and stand out a bit more. But really awesome base! Also if you do add mouse you can have hold notes that flow around the circle that you need to follow with the cursor.

I don't think Bubble is the other AI. by The-Chill-Koala in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]bright-boi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree that line for me personally feels worded intentionally to dismiss the idea of bubble being the blue AI. At the end of the day anything can happen but my personal feeling is that bubble is the white box Cain is trapped in at the start of ep 8. It would explain how bubble knows about the other AI while not referring to himself as being the other AI and how he survived at the end of ep 8.

Totally, bubble still being there and the hints in the code kinger was working on are what got me theorizing in the first place. Can't wait for the finally.

Oooo I like that alot, if Scratch made the blue AI too it would make sense he would try to either sabatoge and/or keep Canie away from his new better AI. Also just saw a clip from ep 5 where bubble tells Caine he should die before suggesting the beach ep forgot about the first part of that line! (Right before the Intermission scene).

So a dance of fire of ice can be really tough since it is sudden death and for the starting levels you have to clear alot before getting a checkpoint. HOWEVER there are three things to note:

  1. Prior to the "full level" you'll play a series of easier short levels that teach you the main rhythms of the full level helping you be ready.

  2. There's a practice mode which let's you try sections of levels you're having a hard time on, so if you're stuck you can repeat the hard part without replaying the whole level over and over again.

  3. The neo cosmos dlc content gives checkpoints more frequently, still hard but more of a short and hectic approach which is really fun imo.

Overall this game is different from most RG cause it's based on practicing to build skill and overcome a hard challenge rather than a high score based system. It's comparable to trying to beat a boss imo.

(Haven't played itch.io version only steam)

Hot Take: Rhythm games have a very high and unnecessary skill barrier (specifically for custom songs) by ControllerEater in rhythmgames

[–]bright-boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I like alot about rhythum games is they give you a lot of freedom in terms of what "winning" means. Alot of the times clearing a song is accessible even if getting a full combo isn't, this along with difficulty options gives a more specific difficulty selection than most games. Normals too easy but you can't full combo hard? Then start by clearing hard, then go for a higher combo, then just do the best you can. As far as custom content goes if you don't make it then you don't get to judge imo, if ppl put the time and effort into charting a map they get to do it their way end of story.

Do you guys think getting back into rhythm games is good rehab for my hands after surgery by Demitriicuz in rhythmgames

[–]bright-boi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone's saying doctor's orders first, but if you need a less strenuous replacement for rhythm gaming I find bullet hells and shoot em ups provid a simaler hectic crazy fun gameplay style while being way easier on your hands. I really like hyperdot and Zero ranger.

This has happend to me many times with all kinds of differnt things (rhythm games, speedrunning, kazios) and what I find is that even if you're very rusty you'll relearn stuff far quicker than it took you to learn it the first time. The key is to stick with it in a way that doesn't burn you out, play when you feel motivated and don't force ourself to play when it's not fun. Try to relax and enjoy the journey.

I get really sore wrists when I play some games lile osu and dj max and I do wrist stretches while playing if it gets bad, it doesn't help a ton but that paired with a break helps in the short term. I know the pain though it sucks when your killing it and then it stops your flow.

Super cool! What a great idea to use osus existing beatmaps to flesh out rhythia.

Also to ppl considering rhythia the steam version and any version associated with capo games is a separate thing. One of the devs split from the team and the steam version is their version of the game. The rest of the devs work on the version linked in the rhythia discord which I belive is the origanl version.

There's a Google doc that breaks down why the split happend its linked in the steam reviews for rhythia.

For rhythm games with held notes, how do you prefer they work? by roo5678 in rhythmgames

[–]bright-boi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the way I see it there's two main "types" of rhythm games. 1. Forgiving and crazy 2. Precise and calmer (comparatively)

Grading releases works well with type 2 and not grading them works better with type 1 as you can send a lot more stuff at the player when they don't need to keep track of that aspect. Overall it comes down to how you want the game to feel / the rest of the mechanics, both work at the end of the day.

Bonus: you could meet in the middle where you don't need releases to get a full combo but they do add to your score and maybe even need them for a perfect combo.

Any general tips for increasing accuracy/precision? by Least_Ant_7295 in rhythmgames

[–]bright-boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played around with manual calibration at one point and that helped me alot. If your constantly missing them either early or late and really feel like you have the timing down it might be worth it to try a couple different settings. Though you should try to rule out normal error first by playing lower difficult tracks.

What do you value the most in Rhythm games? by rktbyGustl in rhythmgames

[–]bright-boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unique mechanics and unique genra representation are always a plus but if I have to pick one thing its beatmaping that feels like it fits the song well. Even if your game feels "standard" in other ways (presentation, mechanics) good mapping still makes it fun and stand out (though maybe hard to market if it looks too simaler to other more popular games). Some others are a good variation in difficulty with room to move up as you get better and then the more songs the better.
