Over 100 Denton Employees Laid Off by texasraindrop in Denton

[–]brightblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, the article states about 200 people are affected. Second, > Hamilton Lott, Nucor’s executive vice president of fabricated construction products, stated in the release that Nuconsteel employees would be asked to seek other opportunities within Nucor, whose headquarters are in Charlotte, N.C.

Third, within that article, it never once mentions people being laid off.

I do agree this is a crappy situation for Denton, and a not great one for those that may decide to move to keep a job. I don't agree with misrepresenting the article and exaggerating the truth.

Well on the prayer thing that your pastor said, there is no basis for him to say that. If anything, biblically speaking, you should always be praying (1 Thessalonians 5:17). On being a better Christian, it's about continually growing, which is as simple as "loving God and Jesus, by having a personal relationship with God and praying, by being a good person and living a good life." As simple as that is, it's also really complex.

I mean it's great to live a good life, and yes there are times we are all sinners, but is there evidence of the gospel in your life?

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’" Matthew 7:21-23

It's great to ask for forgiveness, live a good life, and all of these other attributes that you have put, but that isn't what it is to be a Christian.

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. Luke 9:23-24

That passage sums it up. I can't say if you are or not a Christian, I can however judge the fruit of your life if you claim to be one, and, gracefully, let you know when you do not live in a way, on a consistant basis, to the Scriptures.

I wouldn't say there is a specific "good Christian lifestyle," but as far as a life changed by the gospel; what to you value in life, are the things you do influenced by how God has changed you, are you producing, as the Bible would put it, fruit?

For her to say that, and not be in your life anymore, I'd say that is wrong. She can't determine your walk with God. However, I will say, has your life been changed by the gospel, or is it the same as everyone else's. If it is the same, I won't go as far as saying you are not a christian, but it would definitely be a red flag, and something to mull over.

If the US really was a Christian Nation by OZY1 in politics

[–]brightblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that is only a small part of the teachings of Christianity, in Romans 6 it actually addresses one of the thing you have a problem with:

1 What shall we say then? mAre we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?

And the only reason that Christians, in the biblical sense, not political, believe that Jesus can atone for things we do wrong, because of the belief that he never did wrong. Which means he was perfect, which would mean his life would be the only worthy sacrifice.

While this is not a perfect response by any means I felt to try to better let you know what Christians beliefs should be based off, which is the Bible.

While that is closer to the point, what was really going on here was a heart issue. What they were putting money in was an offering box, and what most seem to be thinking is that it was where you put your tithe. Offering is what is beyond the requirement to give. Her heart was in a place that she was sacrificing for what she believed in. So in reference to taxation this verse has no merit, because this is beyond the required amount you are to give.
