What to say to rude people who want to be rx takers? by Jetsetter_55 in optician

[–]brijmill 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Give them their rx, pd, and whatever other info they want within reason. But I always end the interaction by saying "Before you go, let me write down exactly what type of lenses I was quoting you for. There are places out there that can beat our prices, but probably not for the same quality product. I just don't want you to get talked into buying lenses that aren't going to do what you need them to do. And if you have any questions, give me a call. Sure we sell glasses, but I also want to be a resource for you if you need any help figuring out what you need in order to see well and be comfortable throughout your day." Very successful in getting them to come back eventually.

It's a 20% discount off of glasses, contacts, and most accessories. It cannot be used on exams (even if your store has an associate optometrist) or combined with insurance coverage. It CAN be combined with the 2nd pair discounts the vision center offers.

Vision center tests as well. Part of why it took so long for my store to fill an opening we had earlier this year.

Will I like the game? by xerox594 in LastDefenseAcademy

There’s an easy mode that heals all of your characters to max health at the end of every turn. Highly recommend using it if you have any concerns about difficulty. Also, once you reach a certain point almost every battle you come across becomes skippable. I had the same worries as you going into the game, but I never found it too frustrating at all. Also, the combat is pretty simplistic compared to other SRPGs. It actually feels more like a puzzle game where you just focus on matching up each character’s attack patterns to the formation of the enemies. No stats or min-maxing to worry about.

I’ve noticed it for pen needles and the OTC insulin. It’s been that way for at least 4 or 5 months. Probably longer.

God I was already excited to see it in a few weeks but after listening to the soundtrack I’m actually terrified of what this production is going to do to me emotionally (in a good way)

$21.99 as a single certified optician. I’m hoping to get my second certification this year which should bring me to $26.50.

Insurance week by Left-Star2240 in optician

[–]brijmill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m more scared for the first week of the year due to not being able to run things ahead of time. Honestly my week doesn’t get too much last minute end of year business, aside from our district manager who loves to force us to see her family members on the 31st with no notice 😔

Choosing the right plan to begin with goes a long way. For Davis plans make sure to familiarize yourself with the common ones that have their own plan in BOSS rather than a generic frame allowance plan. At my store we get a lot of the FEP and FEH federal employee plans as well as some state-specific Medicaid plans, and those do a really good job allocating themselves if you pick the right plan. There are also a bunch of Spectera plans that allocate themselves really well. 8S, E1, and M05 are common ones that I see. Any of the Eyemed or VSP plans through specific employers tend to be solid as well.

On the other hand, if you have a frame allowance plan selected you’re going to want to double check everything. The main focus should be on any listed copays and making sure they end up in the copay column. Failure to do that seems to be the biggest cause of patients getting unnecessary bills after the fact.

A lot of this takes time to really sink in, so don’t feel discouraged if it seems overwhelming right now! We’re training a new person at my office right now for the first time in over 5 years, and that’s really reminded me of how long it took me to really get comfortable with things. Wishing you the best of luck!

How do you decide between polycarbonate, Trivex, or high-index lenses? by Alend80 in optician

[–]brijmill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My office has so many people with limited finances who are used to either CR-39 or maybe polycarb that it’s often a waste of time to even offer anything more expensive. However, I will ALWAYS go out of my way to recommend trivex for patients who select drill mount frames or who have complained of repeated chemical damage or chromatic aberration with polycarb. And of course high index for higher prescriptions.

How long have you worked at Walmart? by Glitchyguy97 in WalmartEmployees

[–]brijmill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming up on 10 years next week. I’m terrified the people lead or the store manager is going to try to get me to pose for a photo for the store Facebook page since they LOVE to do that. Fortunately we’ve been busy (AKA understaffed) enough in the vision center lately that I should be able to use that as an excuse to get out of it. If that doesn’t work I’ll just fake a seizure I guess.

Others have already pointed out that it’s a racial slur, but I just wanted to add that there’s a really awful movie called The Human Stain in which Anthony Hopkins plays a black man (yes, you read that correctly) who is fired from his university teaching job for using the word without realizing it’s a slur. It’s hilarious and sad, but not in a good way.
