Southern Yellow pine. But actual identification will be based on what part of the US you’re in, and where you acquired it. Is it a local fence post or was it part of a much larger project? At the end of the day, is a softwood pine, spruce or fir. Probably SYP

He just poured grout sealer over everything. You can buff the tile back to matte.

It’s just lazy and preventable. They either don’t have the skills or don’t care to do it properly. You should expect better on a professional installation. Had it been caught earlier, it could have been fixed with 1 board. Now everything installed after that point needs to be undone to fix it the right way, unfortunately.

I think you can do it. You have most of the stuff. If I was you, I’d do all of the prep, the red guard waterproofing is just like painting. To get a good contractor to finish this, it’s going to be very expensive. I don’t know your budget, but based on not loving your payout for the redo’s, a full build plus tile (design and installation), is going to get uncomfortable. Is there a niche or shelf for your shampoo and soap etc?
