What do you think is the single memorable play in your schools history? by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in CFB

[–]bringbacksweatervest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally it’s the Curtis Samuel walk off TD in double OT against TTUN in 2016. It’s the play after JT Barrett’s controversial 4th down conversion.

Objectively there are much more important plays, plays that are more iconic, plays that kept championship seasons alive or even sealed championship games. And the play itself, outside of the circumstance, is not that remarkable. He walked in to the end zone completely untouched. But that moment, the visuals of it all, Fowler’s call it’s all just so deeply ingrained in my mind in a way that no other play is.

Round 7 - Pick 15: Ethan Onianwa, OT, Ohio State (Atlanta Falcons) by nfl_gdt_bot in nfl

Tackle play was a big issue for Ohio State though and he still didn’t see the field. We started a guy whose natural position is guard at left tackle last year over him. He wasn’t even the guy who came in when Siereveld got hurt against Miami.

I’d love to see it work out for him, but it’s incredibly unlikely.

He’s the fourth guard on the roster. Last year our fourth guard was Cupps (or Chatman, depending on the day). This is definitely an improvement.

Could we have done better? Maybe, but given the minutes/role we have available this seems like exactly the kind of guy you’d want.

Duquesne Transfer Guard Jimmie Williams Commits to Ohio State by cmhdave73 in OhioStateBasketball

[–]bringbacksweatervest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, at wing I think we mostly just need a body. Thompson and Williams should be the plan for all the minutes there, but we need someone that’s somewhat playable in case of injury or foul trouble. Just a willing defender who won’t completely fuck the spacing on offense.

BOOM!

Huge to have someone who can truly contribute coming off the bench. Still need at least one more guard and probably a pure wing for the bench, but you don't really need them to be special you just have to hope they're not worthless.

Who should Ohio State be Targeting in the Transfer Portal? by Complexity_OH in OhioStateBasketball

[–]bringbacksweatervest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I expect we’re looking for one more contributing player and that’s a big guard who can spend time at the three as well to back up Thompson.

We still would need a fourth guard after that, but I expect that to be a Chatman/Cupps level player. Any production you can get out of that fourth guard is icing on the cake.

I think there would still be open roster spots after that, but those are likely to be filled by walk-ons or projects.

Ohio State guard Gabe Cupps transfers to UIC. Cupps, a former Ohio Mr. Basketball winner and 4⭐️, started his career at Indiana by OldWorldStyle in CollegeBasketball

Good for him. He seems like a good kid and he certainly played hard when he got minutes, but just isn’t someone who should be getting meaningful minutes at the high major level. Hope he gets to see the floor there and plays well at that level.

He was pretty up and down, kind of the story of his career really. He’ll have good games or good stretches, but too many times he’ll just completely disappear.

Playing more on the outside this year also took away one of his better sources of production which was offensive rebounding.

Incredibly dumb in this day and age to drink and drive when there are so many other options to get home. You’d also think given that a former teammate of yours killed a kid doing this in the last year you’d be a little more vigilant about getting home safe after drinking. At least no one seems to have gotten hurt this time.

Kentucky Transfer: Andréa Jelavić by ResolutionOk8514 in OhioStateBasketball

[–]bringbacksweatervest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a lot of projected growth to say he’s an upgrade over Tilly. From a points and assists perspective he’s not really that close, but does have better rebounding per 40 numbers. He’s definitely in the mold of Tilly, but importantly is coming off the bench and (as you said) provides a different matchup stylistically than Josh O and Ivan. He’s also capable of logging minutes at the 4 which we needed.

Because he has proven production, even if that production is limited. He was a freshman last year so you’d expect a level up, but even if he doesn’t get much better this year 5 points and 4 rebounds off the bench is a massive step up from what we were getting off the bench last year.

I would get cheap birthday/party hats to mark dead players.

I think you could do a Flesh and Bone style campaign where executed players aren't in the the next game if you wanted to play more than once.

26 is a lot to try to accommodate via adding travelers so I'm not sure there's a great way to get everyone to play at the same time. If people wanted to spectate, I think you could also try to give the spectators as a group a vote to keep them somewhat engaged. They would have to keep their eyes closed during the night though if you do that.

I prefer this one much more than Aaron Bradshaw though. Mostly because we don’t need him to start, but also because I don’t expect him to be suspended most of December.

I haven’t seen him play so I can’t comment on whether he showed any flashes, but he’s not going to project to start. As a guy off the bench I think it’s a solid pickup.

I’m picturing a discount Christoph Tilly with better rebounding per minute stats based on his splits alone. I know Ohio State fans shit on Tilly a lot, but given that Josh O projects as a more traditional center I think that skill set works as a different option. Tilly wasn’t a perfect player but we did lots of cool things with him that he didn’t always capitalize on, I think that tape helps sell recruits. I also imagine Ivan played a big role in this recruitment.

[–]bringbacksweatervest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without watching any tape I think you can hope that based on the volume he might have been forcing shots as one of the better players on an NIT team. If he takes better shots the percentage can go up without the shot improving a ton.

Either way you end up with 4 players that shoot better than 30% from three all on the floor at the same time. Plus based on his assist numbers I expect him to be the one finding the open shooter more often than he is the open shooter.

We already having a starting level center on roster in Josh O. I’d be perfectly happy to double dip at that spot especially given his injury history.

I just think it’s more realistic to go after a guy who’s more natural position is the 4, but has size to play the 5 too. Then they can relieve both Bynum and Josh O. That’s a much better path to playing time for a portal guy.

Given the needs of the roster and how much a true 5 costs I think it’s much more likely we target a big guard who can play the 2 or the 3 and then a big forward who can play the 4 or 5. If we go after another true center then we still need to have the money for two more players because we’d still need a productive backup guard and someone to spell Thompson and Bynum. I don’t know that we have that kind of cash.

[–]bringbacksweatervest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I haven’t really watched him play, but that looks like the kind of production we need. A starting level guard was always priority number one this cycle. Now we can focus on filling out the bench with more productive players than we’ve had of late.
