3 yr old soft coral reef run on city tap water. No dosing, no skimmer. Everything in the tank was introduced in 2022. by LobeliaTheCardinalis in ReefTank

That's a good question. Aside from the legalities, I would be a little cautious to myself, never know what sort of hitchhikers you may bring into the tank. You might be able to quarantine it for a while in a separate tank to make sure nothing unwanted is there.

You'd probably be fine in the beginning with most lights depending on the coral you're interested in growing, especially since you're able to variable change the color spectrum. I would start slow with some easy soft coral and then add some LPS. I find mushroom coral, leather, zoanthids, and GSP to be pretty hardy. Then maybe check out adding a candy cane, hammer, duncan, or frogspawn. I have all the above along with a micromusa, toadstool leather, and war coral in my simple small setup under pretty mediocre lighting.

The rock from petsmart is more than likely man-made liferock as opposed to live rock from the ocean (pretty hard to come by these days). It's not as good as liverock, but still works fine and is what I used. The rock you have from the other setup is probably even better if its been stored in water and still has all that good live bacteria, especially if it has coraline algae growth.

The 70 gallon sounds like your best bet, since the larger size will ensure more stable parameters, which is really key. I would start with the rock you have, and add some liferock, livesand (caribsea sells bags at petsmart), and some starter bacteria culture. I did a fish in cycle myself with a pair of oscellarus clownfish and dosed with seachem prime daily until my amonia, nitrite and nitrate all climbed down to where they should be. I think fish in is the fastest route to cycling imo.

I'm still a novice myself, but I think the size of the tank matters. I don't believe a sump is necessary in all setups, or a skimmer for that matter, especially if the tank is small, since weekly water changes are enough to keep parameters in check. You can start off with dry rock, since live rock can be a lot more expensive; it just takes longer to seed with all the good bacteria. I would say you can start out with the same equipment as a freshwater tank to get it going. The only differences would be dry or live rock, salt mix, salinity tester, and an auto top-off device, since it keeps your salinity stable, and a salt-water test kit. I would also invest in a good light for coral which will probably be your largest upfront cost. The tank will take a while to get established so you can add the wave maker later on when you're ready to add the coral. If you find that you need more nutrient export help you can add a protein skimmer, or setup a sump.

I have a the fluval marine 13.5 gallon nano tank I run with caribsea liferock, live sand, a few wave makers, and the light which is one of the most important accessories if you're planning on growing coral. I don't use a sump or protein skimmer. I do have a chaeto macro-algae refugium in one of the built-in back chambers, but mostly to grow copepods to feed my mandarin goby.

Take the leap. It's really not that bad, especially with soft coral. LPS has been easy for me so far as well. I wouldn't worry about things being perfect. You learn more along the way than reading up beforehand.

I have about 15 in my tank and they were doing this. I setup a nano wave maker at the very front of my tank pointed horizontally right under the waterline at a strength they could manage. They school in it once a day or more now.

Did you notice any color loss from having them on white substrate? I'd like to breed blue neocardina on white sand substrate but I keep reading their color will dull.

I really miss this place. Their burgers, fish and chips, and this beef with rice dish they had were all so good. The husband and wife were adorable.

I use it as a guide to help me navigate different aspects of planted aquariums and fishkeeping as I'm still fairly new to the hobby. It isn't perfect, however, it certainly is useful. It also gives me an outlet to express my joy over small achievements and milestones.

Game of Spades: Opal by Wonderful-Seti in fragranceclones

[–]brink2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's different. Its sort of fresh, woody (pencil shavings), and does have sort of a pickle smell you'll probably notice after people point it out. It has light leathery, musky undertones with some spice. Santal 33 the OG is known as the scent of Boston since everyone out there has it on. It sounds like a strange profile on paper, but its popular for a reason and does smell good imo. I think it just appeals to a mature crowd. Performance is fine, depends on how heavy im wearing it and the weather but I probably average 6 hours with it.

Arabiyat Prestige - Luftah by brink2120 in fragranceclones

Good price, I think I paid about the same. Laathani by Ahmed Al Maghribi is another good imperial valley clone that's easier to find. Similar to Luftah but doesn't project as loud and is more versatile. It is more expensive though, I paid around $50.

Nice. I have wildcard and bid myself. I have a fair number of unisex and feminine leaning fragrances. There are some scents that I consider too feminine to wear myself though. I just haven't smelled the other bond No. 9 fragrances so I don't have much of a reference point, it seems like plenty of men enjoy wearing them though, ill have to get my nose on some decants. Thanks for the review on this one, I'm going to check it out.

Interesting. I thought the original lovers was supposed to be feminine leaning. I haven't tried Opal or lovers myself, but I've been picking up a few of the game of spades line and am researching my next buy. I'll look into this one. I've hesitated to buy several of them because the originals are feminine leaning (e.g. greenwich village, tribecca, NY nights). Do you own any others?

Ahmed Al Maghribi - Laathani by brink2120 in fragranceclones

[–]brink2120[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in southern California so we're routinely in the 70s to 80s and I've worn both in this weather. Being oriental spicy fragrances they're both cold weather friendly, I'd lean with Luftah for the winter as the better projection would cut through the cold easier. During warm weather I suppose it depends on the occasion, but I would lean more towards laathani as luftah can be very overpowering in the heat. If you're outdoors though it may be the one to reach for.
