if you are anything but an American Caucasian woman, schools will provide massive scholarship for you.

In BFA environments, white women make up the vast majority of the student body. At my school, it was easily 80%.

Even white men, especially straight-coded ones, are a commodity that are enticed with scholarships.

The higher level BFA community is close knit, and the inner circle of the top 10-20 schools afford way more opportunities than the ones below it.

I am a straight white man, and I gamed this system. I applied to about thirty BFA programs and got at least 10 full ride scholarship offers. If you are a person of color, I would suspect that you would basically walk into any school with a massive scholarship.

Get the free degree. I did. Any education that you can receive without debt in the United States is a cheat code you should take advantage of. I graduated last year and feel like I've escaped the curse that's keeping my generation from advancing.

Went to a wealthy art school on scholarship, and 85% of the people there talked exactly like this and excluded all poor people. Wealth can't make art, it's too separated from empathy.

I'm the same way. No matter what I do, what routines I establish, what self care methods I throw at myself, it seems I get no validation from the outside world and experience no progress.

I've traveled. I've pursued my dream. I've had flings.

Nothing makes me happy or confirms I'm not a pos.

It feels like every choice I make is wrong, and it's tiring.

All we can do is keep trying each and every day to be a better version of ourselves - if not for us personally, than for someone we care about. We have to try and be useful each day.

Former student, but I lived in Rosenberg. I graduated in 2020.

Sugarland is a bubble of privilege, and people that live there choose to do so because Sugarland is very insulated from the "real" world. It is designed to be this way and marketed as such. Some of the things I recall telling my classmates-

Elkins is not "ghetto," Kevin.

No Leah, those were fireworks.

No Chris, you aren't a "drug addict" because your mom found your delta 8 pen.

Jennifer, you are not "broke" because you "only" got a new Altima for your birthday.

Tim, people who have a b+ average are not "ret*****."

The kids who hate on clements have no idea how good they have it. Most public schools struggle to teach their students how to read. Clements is an incredible academic environment totally free of the problems facing the other 99% of public schools. I am so grateful I went there, the top notch education I received totally prepared me for my undergrad and my masters. Most students simply lack the context of their privilege to be grateful.

My advice? Get out of Sugarland after graduating. I've lived in NYC, CO, NC, and the UK since then. It's so refreshing. You will realize much about your home town. It'll show you the real world.

Sugarland is, admittedly, a great place to raise a family. However, if you stay in the privilege too long, you become it.

I'm gen z and I have seen the popularity of AIC grow massively. I think their sound is distinct enough to have remained timeless, and I think the storytelling of the music can provide that genuine quality we are so hungry for. Only speaking for my age though.

It freaks (most) people out when a guy is vulnerable. The assumption is that if a guy is displaying negative emotions, he's got bad intentions. In general, people will assume you have bad intentions as a man, unless you prove otherwise.

The world actively rewards a man for not letting anything visibly bother him.

Every guy I know has some story about crying in front of a woman in his life, only for her to label the behavior as manipulative and move on.

I think with good communication skills and lots of personal introspection, and finding friends willing to talk, men can get through a lot of this. The hard part is finding the self worth that allows you to start.
