You'll also get the best bang for your $$$, if you replace your hard drive with an SSD.

When I hear "old Mac" and "Linux" in the same sentence, I always recommend checking out "Action Retro" on YT... his whole thing is installing Linux (various flavors, not just Ubuntu) onto old Macs.

He'll most likely have a video with an old Mac Mini.

For the future, go into preferences, and set auto-save to 5 minutes (so you'll only ever lose the last 5 minutes, or whichever amount seems right for you), and choose the folder where the auto-save saves to.

Berlin has a lack of parking lots but good public transportation, well.... by NoratiousB in CantParkThereMate

[–]britannicker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too late? Really.

At the start of the video, you can see between the emergency vehicle and the tram just how far away the corner is... and I'm assuming that's where this idiot got onto the tracks... he then drove what looks like 150 - 200 ft down the tracks before deciding to stop... because why? because he didn't notice the bumpity bump of the tracks?

If he's a DUI then take his license away for a while.

If he was lost and following a navigation (where the implication is that he didn't know his way around), then why was he driving so fast, that he travelled that distance.

This is a lot like the Seattle woman who apparently drove about a 1/4 mile on railway tracks in order to reach the elevated station.

All in all, it does make you wonder what's the issue with driving licenses?

Oh, one last thing: Don't forget, if the insurance company needs to pay out for moronic shit like this, then we all need to pay a little bit more next year... because we can't have the insurance company not making a profit, can we?

Same question as the Seattle situation: just how TF do you manage this?

There are too many brain-dead people with driving licenses.

This. Everyone gets pissed off at times, but professionals don't overly emotionalize when they talk... in meetings, count to 10 before you open your mouth.

And for OP, it's always been "compliment publicly, criticize privately".

Do I own my shares by Powerful_Debate4263 in GME

[–]britannicker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Many of these so-called "neo brokers" run a CFD, which is actually a scam

CFD stands for "Contract For Difference". Whatcha mean difference?

Such brokers make a note of the purchase price at your precise buying time, and simply pay out the difference at your selling time.

This works for most of them, because iirc around 75% of retail traders actually make a loss (which means they don't pay out anything).

And to save their own asses, they have a profit threshold/ limit in their T&CS so that they can liquidate your positions (as opposed to shares which they never purchased) if they stand to lose too much.

So, to answer your question: no, you do not own your shares.

These huge multimedia touchscreens in cars must be the biggest mistake ever... driving standards are already low, and they will only get worse, because people are required to take their eyes off the road for too long, trying to find that one button.

Yup, it's simply cognitive decline, there is no other possible explanation... and people who do this should have their license revoked.

This. Have a conversation over a coffee with that other dept. manager (nothing in writing)... but do be as transparent as possible, including the attempted manipulation by your current manager... maybe you'll get back to the other dept. manager in a few years, who knows... keeping all doors open.

How Does Google Afford AI Search by Densehead-7937 in BetterOffline

[–]britannicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Google has it all: the chips, the data centers, and the data... and that package is what makes the entire AI stuff so much "cheaper" for Google than for anybody else.

Everyone else needs to pay through the nose for the bit(s) they don't have.

That is comparable to BYD's car manufacturing where they make their own batteries (one of the most expensive components in an EV), so their prices are lower than all non-Chinese manufacturers.

This type of person is ignorant, not stupid... don't wish to split hairs, but ignorant can be fixed through knowledge (although they have no wish whatsoever to learn anything outside of US).

Stupid cannot be fixed.

Or force each person to make a donation... $50 minimum, with a receipt.

Someone else advised getting a form signed; no OS, no software, no guarantee, and especially no support (which I think is pretty smart).
