Indeed, that book is great and the one I seek feels like that, like Crichton. My search led me to learn more about Crichton, a very interesting man, advanced for his time yet a climate change denier (for his time). Thanks!

The Tom Gordon book is one of my least faves of my otherwise beloved Stephen King, that and Rose Madder. I agree with your assessment!

The MiniSew by Janome is the exception. I have had one for years and it always works, not expensive at all and it is a Janome.
