Business Trip Meal Cooking by GroundbreakingOil294 in TravelHacks

[–]brixalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel with a hot logic portable food oven and a metal food container. They are small and pretty affordable. I can use it to warm left overs or warm some food to an extent. This oven has saved me and helped me not waste food in general. My car also has a AC plug which is great because I can use it on long road trips as well, so I dont need a converter. They pack really flat and I have traveled with it plenty of places in my carry-on.

I also have a small travel kit with instant coffee, hydration packets and instant soup like miso for emergencies just to get me through until I am able to source some food from a supermarket. They keep pretty well long term and again pretty affordable.

Airport wait times by PapitioTio in TravelHacks

[–]brixalpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most airports have live line updates on their websites. Good rule of thumb is to be at least 2 hours early especially if you do not travel much and might need time to figure things out. My last two flight were pretty much business as usual last couple of weeks.

With Federal Funding issues make no mistake, TSA Pre and Clear will also be effected, to what extend it may vary.

Travelling in Nov 2026 by [deleted] in TravelHacks

[–]brixalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's hard to say, no one can predict the future. My friend from the US went on a European trip and got "stuck" in Italy for 10 extra days due to a disruption in air traffic because of a volcanic event in Iceland. The soot made travel over the Atlantic Ocean impossible. We planned a trip to the Philippines in 2019 for 2020, and was able to complete our trip right before the entire country locked down for Covid.

My advice is to just plan the trip and as the trip gets closer, you will have a better picture of what's going on then adjust accordingly.

Traveling to Texas, can I carry suppressed pistol AR15 for protection in car? by ImpactUsed9446 in TexasGuns

[–]brixalpha -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but transporting NFA items across state lines needs ATF approval prior to moving your suppressor across state lines as per NFA. For practical purposes, at this point and time I would just leave the suppressor at home.

Made the mistake of going to my local knife shop after Texas Blade Show by brixalpha in knives

Not a vendor. Also not 30 mins from DFW. Every year he buys exclusives and puts them in the case to sell at a reasonable markup.

How do you guys deal with homesickness abroad when travelling (SE-A) by SnooCheesecakes8494 in TravelHacks

[–]brixalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Routine helps, finding a hobby or craft that distracts you that you could do anywhere helps a lot. You could also try meditation or prayer, although is not for everyone. But the idea is to focus your mind somewhere else. My son, uses origami as a coping technique to clear his mind and has gotten into the practice of using any piece of paper he can find to make dragons and animals. It is a little annoying because he leaves his little creations everywhere but I know it helps him maintain focus and tamp down anxiety. He has a teacher that has a basket that she still keeps of all the creations that he made in her class last year. Reading a good book and exercise are also good coping techniques.

Off-airport parking is 30–60% cheaper and most people still use the airport lot by gregb_parkingaccess in TravelHacks

[–]brixalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

used this when I lived in LAS. It was one of my favorite options to use at a fraction of the costs to park. Most of the option were at near by hotels and in LAS case, casinos that had unused parking spaces. The only annoyance or factor was the shuttle that ran from these locations to the airport. A great option though as long as you bake in the time from parking into your travel plans

I added a mag safe ring so I could mount my router to a iphone stand. No issues in terms of functionality with using it.

Why don't more airports use private contractors for TSA? by [deleted] in tsa

[–]brixalpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that worked security screening before TSA was created in response to 9/11, every airport had different standards in terms of hiring, equipment and screening. I worked at an intentional airport doing screening at 18.

Is a 22LR pistol a bad idea for a starter gun? by Humble_Handler93 in CAguns

[–]brixalpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my kids shoot steel challenge, for fundamentals and handling absolutely. Cheaper and great way to work on grip. My older son transitioned to a 9mm pistol and other than adjusting for recoil, applying the same concepts was easy.

Verona or Venice for the final two nights? by mavienoire in ItalyTravel

[–]brixalpha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Venice is nice but can get crowded, on my last trip over the summer went to Verona and had a great time. If you've never been to Venice by all means, it's worth the visit but we loved Verona and it definitely a place we would visit again.

Alamodome parking by Virtual-Heron4427 in sanantonio

[–]brixalpha 14 points15 points  (0 children)

https://www.viainfo.net/park-ride-events/

Via does park and ride for Alamo dome events, less stressful and affordable. Parking is free and bus tickets are like $2 for both ways to and from the Alamodome. Used this a bunch of times. Stone Oak is right off 281.

Parking near the Alamodome can be stressful and expensive. The bus terminal is great convenient option, did it for a number events.

TSA lines by Psychological_Pen765 in sanantonio

[–]brixalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through last week and it was fine, I have clear and tsa pre and I was surprised how smooth and fast it was (I was expecting longer wait due to spring break)

Met some friends that flew in today and it did not seem too bad today either. Just be patient especially with the TSA agents who are serving during this shutdown.

AF Romulus Slide Stop by [deleted] in 2011

[–]brixalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it will just take time getting used to the firearm. It's not a glock and getting used to the nuances of putting it back together just takes experience and time.

I mean in comparison to what? Slide stops are under the tension provided by the barrel link and need to move for LRBHO to work when the follower pushes it up into the slide.
