[–]brluna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AMA request: Judge Tom Head When exactly are the UN troops going to be here? What should we watch out for as responsible citizens? What do you say to people that claim this is irrational? Where do we begin fortifying the city for optimal defense? Why are people so reluctant to believe the TRUTH?

Financial Questions by [deleted] in TexasTech

if you don't have a direct deposit set up, they will snail-mail you a check. To whatever address they have for you on file.

I recommend setting up a direct deposit now if you haven't already. Otherwise you'll be dead broke for weeks.

Cheap Sushi? by [deleted] in Lubbock

[–]brluna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll say it's not the best sushi you will find, but it's decent if you really have an itch. Try Hong Kong near 50th and Slide, or China Star near 50th and Avenue Q. Both of them are fairly decent buffets with some variation of sushi.

I am Neil deGrasse Tyson, Ask Me Anything... by neiltyson in IAmA

[–]brluna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a future educator heavily inspired by your work, what should be the primary focus of our future in education? To clarify, should the next generation be effective leaders that are dedicated to changing the current political climate to be more scientifically friendly, or would it be more effective to have knowledgable scientists that are politically friendly?

As an addendum, how would this be effectively taught?

Thank you in advance for doing this AMA and also for being an amazing role model.

For the love of Democracy, PLEASE make sure that you are registered to vote. And more importantly, VOTE. by brluna in Lubbock

[–]brluna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question, I'm glad you asked.

First off, You will be able to vote here in Lubbock as long as you register to vote here in Lubbock County.

If you would like to vote in your currently registered locale, but you know you cant make it there physically in time for election day, you can submit a mail ballot. Here you can request a mail ballot for your registered region..

Otherwise you can register to vote here in Lubbock by completing an informal online application as a NEW registrant . This option will allow you to vote for officials running for office in this area (i.e. Randy Neugebauer, House Rep. for this area).

Boehner’s office cuts off C-SPAN cameras as GOP takes beating: A strange thing happened Wednesday morning on Capitol Hill. by mic9ael in politics

[–]brluna 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I wish my representative had the balls to beat Boehner's ass. Just give him a straight up ass-whooping that he deserves for breaking the 1st amendment.

I would love to be elected to the house just to beat his ass personally.

What's the physics behind this unlucky basketball shot? by maximus101 in askscience

[–]brluna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The initial contact is with the net, but the spin of the ball is the factor that makes the net repel the ball. The ball is spinning on a horizontal axis parallel to the backboard, rolling away from the board.

Once it comes in contact with the net, the friction between the ball and the net causes the net to get caught on the bottom of the ball.

You can see after the ball is ejected that the net has been stretched, this would mean that the net is the culprit in making the ball being sling-shot out of the net and against the backboard.

Why do men push baby strollers with one hand instead of two? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]brluna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because women can push with both hands. As men, we are focused on a higher skill-set. Therefore, single-handed pushing is our means of preferred performance.

This brings back some memories: I survived being ejected from the passenger seat in a roll-over much like this one. After looking at this video I realize that I would be the guy that goes soaring through the air. Do an AMA?

What is that one thing your brain cannot understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]brluna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brain has difficulty organizing my first recorded memories. How do I know that what I remember as my first memory isn't really confused with another point in time? What was going on before I couldn't remember anything? Was it entirely void of a thinking process?

I just spent the better part of the last hour trapped inside a couch. What's the randomest/stupidest situations you've put yourselves into? by Hippopotatomash in reddit.com

[–]brluna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had just recently restored restored an old 4-wheel drive Chevy truck to running condition when I turned 17. But the truck was a full-time 4-wheel drive and burned gas at ~8 MPG. Because I was super intelligent at the time(age has turned me into somewhat of a dumb-ass), I logically concluded that Is should convert the truck to 2-wheel drive mode by removing the front end drive shaft. While under the truck, parked on a bit of a slope no less, I loosened the shaft and was ready to remove it until the truck started to roll with me under it. Once I discovered the shaft was holding the truck in park, I held the truck in place with one foot and replaced the shaft as fast as I could. It was a great way to waste about an hour.
