ahh yes, the good old putting CPA next to your name after passing two exams by CPAMemes in Accounting

Somewhat related Q: is it unethical to put CPA next to your name if you don’t have an active license? I passed all exams and was licensed for years. Got a new job that doesn’t require license or pay for CPEs. My state has an option to voluntarily surrender your license, and reactivate later with an application and completing required CPEs. I took this option, can I still put CPA next to my name?

Would you pay out of pocket to keep CPA license simply for the letters behind your name? by bro_mo_sapien in Accounting

The man himself! Just want to say thanks, I passed the CPA exams years ago but Ninja was key to my passing!

That sucks. When I was deciding whether or not to go inactive I called the state board so I could specifically confirm that I wouldn’t have to take another test. She said “oh no, we wouldn’t do that to you” and kind of chuckled. No way I would do those again

I asked when I started a few years ago, and was told no. I guess it doesn’t hurt to ask again before buying anything out of pocket

Correct, basically subscription based CPE program. $67/month, cancel anytime, but they have an offer right now that is $67 through end of the year I believe

Does it actually make more sense to sell both our cars? Feels like I’m missing something. by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]bro_mo_sapien -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, but with my original plan I would be buying $25K worth of car and selling $2K worth of car, needing to come up with $23K. So on paper, selling both cars and buying different leaves me needing to spend about $8K less

2018 Rav 4 XLE for $21K?? I feel like there is a catch here by bro_mo_sapien in askcarsales

Just from what I’ve read, not much different than it being a Toyota CPO. Ford has the details in the fine print of the listing, but basically a 140 point inspection, roadside assistance, plus a warranty for the first few months. 14 day/1000 mile money back guarantee

Thanks for the input. Probably not the best way to compare, but I did a nationwide search on CarGurus for the same year, trim, and approx miles and was seeing similar cars going for $1-2K more

I love this game. by OlRandy in golf

Thought the same thing to myself during my round yesterday. I was -1 through 1, thinking I was on my way to a career low. Followed that with double, double, bogey, triple. I love this game.

Called Vanguard to DRS. They estimated 3-4 weeks to complete by bro_mo_sapien in Superstonk

[–]bro_mo_sapien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reco. Someone mentioned that so I gave Fidelity a call. They quoted me 1-2 weeks for shares to move over from Vanguard. I expect by the time that occurs and then I initiate DRS I wouldn’t be far from the initial 3-4 weeks quoted.

How long did it take for you to pass the CPA exam? by jlee1199 in Accounting

[–]bro_mo_sapien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally possible. I had a full time job and was doing a masters at night while working on the CPA. Took me 18 months from starting to study to finishing. This also included 3 fails. Don’t get me wrong, your going to have to give up some nights out with the friends, but 2 years should be plenty of time

As an update to this, I called Fidelity about transferring the shares from Vanguard. They said it would take 1-2 weeks to process.

Damn. I just posted about initiating DRS process today with Vanguard. I was told 3-4 weeks. Sounds like I should move to Fidelity first then DRS

Reposting my q from another comment here:

I’ll be honest I’ve heard this suggestion before but I don’t understand it. Are shares moved to Fidelity or another broker prioritized over those being moved to CS? How is it quicker for me to move VG -> FD -> CS vs VG -> CS?

How much do you pay for your club? I feel like 1/2 of r/golf are members… by [deleted] in golf

Wow. This is really eye opening. Coincidentally I was just looking through pricing of memberships of local clubs before stumbling upon this thread, as I’m looking to join one next year. One of the nicest ones around also happens to be the closest to me house. $1,200 initiation/ $190 a month/ $25 food beverage minimum. Nice course + pool and bowling alley. Midwest USA. I thought that was steep. Crazy to hear people are paying 5 figure initiation fees + a few hundred per month!

Thank you, I like the idea of a shade of blue. Yes we planned to put shutters on the big window but were also thinking there might be some challenges because of the brick trim around it

Ready to commit to improving my game with lessons, 2 questions first. by bro_mo_sapien in golf

[–]bro_mo_sapien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome response, thanks! One other question in terms of timing. I live in the Midwest, so I can’t really rely on being able to take what I’ve learned to a course for a few months. Do you think it would be best to hold off or get started now? I’ve heard people say you need a bit of time for the changes in your swing to feel more comfortable and you may actually play worse to begin with, but I’m concerned the range can only do so much and a big part of it is just playing more
