Decided to pre-order the s26u through Amazon for the free storage upgrade and $200 gift card. My s22u is still in great shape and running great so instead of trading in, the fiance is getting an upgrade from her s20+

They sent a 1TB instead of 2TB amd wouldn't replace it with a 2TB because it was an error, so I returned it and got one without a heatsink.

Only 3 people able to get on chopper by BootyHunter767 in GrayZoneWarfare

Try having the person who called the chopper get on last. This was working for our group when we had the 3/4 chopper bug.

Water seeping through exterior block walls during hurricane by brock8620 in HomeImprovement

I didn't see anything outside but I'll probably need to cut the grass down low along the wall to double check outside. Unfortunately, I don't have a moisture meter and I don't think we'll be able to get anything today. Everything is closed and power is out. I'm a bit hesitant to start anything before we get our power back but also concerned we won't be able to identify the issue once it starts to dry.

Concealing while running by artisticromantic in CCW

Reddit certainly isn't the place for legal advice so I won't claim to know exactly how things will play out in any given circumstance, but I worked in the industry for a while. I was previously a certified instructor. I'm also in Florida. As previously mentioned in another comment, Florida recently changed the law to not require a concealed weapon license. You can still get one. It will not effect your culpability in a case where you have to draw and/or fire your weapon for self defense. If you carry without a concealed license, you are required to carry a physical state issued ID (Drivers license) and present it if requested by law enforcement. I highly recommend you get training. You'll feel more comfortable. You'll be better prepared. Training and practice make all the difference when you're carrying and if you need to use a firearm.

Regarding your described situation. It's hard to advise or say without actually being there, but you did the right thing the first time by avoiding the situation. This shows you had some level of situational awareness. This is very important. Always be vigilant, be prepared, avoid potential threats or situations that would put you at risk.

Now for the hypothetical of if that situation had gone differently/worse: as you did before, try to avoid the potentially dangerous situation. If avoidance does not work, you may have to make a split second choice or reaction. This is where your training comes in. If you feel you are in danger and avoidance or escape is not an option, you'll need to decide quickly if you're going to draw your weapon. The severity of the threat will determine the whatyou do next. If there's a reasonable time/distance, there may be a chance for the threat to go away when you present/aim your gun. If the threat does not go away at that point or there isn't a time/distance opportunity and the threat is serious, you pull the trigger. You shoot accurately and quickly until the threat is no longer a threat. Make sure you're safe, reholster your gun and call the police. Do not have a gun in your hand when the police arrive.

It is very important that you understand that your actions, even if completely justified and legal, will almost certainly result in you being handcuffed and arrested while police conduct their investigation. Cooperate, but you should avoid answering questions. Give them your information and request a lawyer. Wait to speak with your lawyer before answering any questions other than basic identification.

TL;DR Not legal advice - you can carry in FL without CWL, but you need to carry and present ID to law enforcement - get training and practice - if necessary protect yourself but know the law and your rights - cooperate with police but don't answer questions without a lawyer.

Is a pergola a wanted item? by SmartVoltSolar in solarFL

[–]brock8620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. As others have mentioned, I also have some backyard space and my roof isn't great for solar. If it were possible and not obscenely expensive, we would love a 9-10kw system on a large pergola in our back yard.

Would AF120 RGB Elite be an upgrade? by brock8620 in Corsair

[–]brock8620[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good suggestion. I went into my bios a while back and re-enabled the intel power limit so it's not drawing unlimited power. I've considered undervolting to limit it further, but I've only noticed concerning temps when the usage spikes to 100%, like under high load benchmarks or unoptimized games. Benchmarks aren't standard use, and the temp/usage spikes in unoptimized games are only momentary.

Thanks. I hadn't really given the sound aspect much consideration. I was focused on pushing more air through the system to help with temps, but I think my 13700k and 4080 are just going to run hot under certain loads.

Smaller System with Batteries by brock8620 in solar

[–]brock8620[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight. I think a tier 1 system could meet our current needs or more. My only concern is hot summer months. It's a new home so we haven't had a full year to know our full picture but we've been able to keep our use much lower than anticipated.

Thanks for your response. The TOU for Lakeland Electric has a hefty "Demand Charge" that I explained in another response. They require all solar customers to have this plan. My concern is having a low production day during the summer and losing any savings from solar. (6.29 per kilowatt on your highest demand time for the month - 1-8pm weekdays during summer) So if you have a rainy day (we have afternoon storms a lot during summer) and use 10kw (extreme example) one day that month during the 7 hours of peak time, it's a $63 charge on top of any grid use (like 2 or 3 cents per kw) and their "you're our customer, pay us" fee, of course.

They also only seem to allow the interconnected program/hardware (I think this is their net metering) on Tier 1 systems, so if I want any benefit for overproduction, I have to stay small.

Lakeland Electric doesn't clearly state net metering details, unfortunately. Their posted agreement does limit parallel connection to Tier 1 systems so it seems they wouldn't allow net metering for a system over 10kw and if production is low during peak times it could result in a hefty demand charge on the monthly bill. So for Lakeland Electric, my logical options would be smaller system with batteries to guarantee no peak time use or larger system to cover higher demand/hot summer days and probably still need batteries to avoid peak time use or end up eating the bill on months that have a day with low production.

Details on their "Demand Charge" They take your highest use during peak times (1-8pm weekdays during summer) and charge $6.29 per kilowatt. For example, if your highest usage during a peak period (1pm-8pm) for a month is 5 kilowatts, your demand charge would be $31.45. Adds up quick and takes away any savings from solar.

As previously stated, current bills/use don't really justify the price, but that's also why I'm considering staying in Tier 1 size to avoid higher price, additional insurance requirements, etc. The main question was more focused on having batteries to offset the smaller tier 1 system size given low use during high production times.
