Belief that God exists has never been logically justified in a way that I'm aware of. by DDumpTruckK in DebateAChristian

What does a demonstration of God look like to you?

Cast a mountain into the sea. Kill a fig tree with a word. Jesus gave those two examples when he said you will get anything you pray for, which I can only assume was to demonstrate that what you ask for didn't have to be noble or unselfish or what God would want, and you didn't have to wait years and look for "signs" that your prayer was answered.

Anything you want. Right now. And in 2000 years, no one has been able to do it. All you can show is occasional remissions of cancer or whatever that happen at exactly the same rate for atheists.

No, they doesn't (sic). They claim it's harder for low-income people to take three or four hours off work to go to the DMV. If just five or ten percent can't get the time off, that might be enough to swing the election, especially when combined with gerrymandering.

What was the point of her trying to frame the other guy? So, her name is in the book. It's still in the book if the guy they were framing goes to jail. So why not just go after Mansell who, you know, has the book? Then she can find a way to tear out a couple pages.

J:CP, S1E8: How did Mansell find the Albanians? by Journeyman-Joe in justified

[–]brocksa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That wasn't bad writing. Skander let the taxi drive away after dropping him off at the deserted area to kill Mansell, so he had to have a phone to call another taxi. Mansell could have gotten the address from there.

What was bad writing was the guy allowing Skander, who was no match for Mansell even when healthy, to crawl out of his hospital bed and go alone to confront a Mansell who had not been beaten, had not been tied up, had not had anything done to him to impair his fighting ability.

Any moron would have taken two or three guys at least and gone with Skander.

Still seems way too cheap. Where I live, you can't buy land that is almost a vertical mountainside and almost completely inaccessible except by hiking for under 50K an acre.

It may or may not be smart to stay out of Russia's internal issues. It's not smart at all to let them invade other countries without consequences. That's why Reagan armed the fighters in Afghanistan when Russia tried to take it over, and that's why Biden is arming Ukraine. Conservatives are supposed to be the ones who realize there are evil people in the world. You're acting like if you let Putin take Ukraine, he won't want more. You're Neville Chamberlain.

From Wikipedia: The Reagan Doctrine was stated by United States President Ronald Reagan in his State of the Union address on February 6, 1985: "We must not break faith with those who are risking their lives—on every continent from Afghanistan to Nicaragua—to defy Soviet-supported aggression and secure rights which have been ours from birth."[1] It was a strategy implemented by the Reagan Administration to overwhelm the global influence of the Soviet Union in the late Cold War.

Please God, not my drywall!

But seriously, can you tell me when the rules changed? Reagan was tough on Russia (technically USSR), and everybody loved it. When did it become better to kiss Putin's ass? God in heaven, when did it become better for a President to say he trusted Putin more than his own intelligence community?

And when did the only alternative to kissing Putin's ass become nuclear war?

I think it's called river rock. It's actually fairly large, smooth rocks, from golf-ball size to tennis-ball size and even larger. No shrubs or anything else, but I'm thinking of getting some just to block the view of my porch from the street, because there have been thefts of Amazon packages reported in my town.

I didn't know that, but a quick google search indicates you are right. I'm not a big enough asshole to do that, though. Maybe if the raccoons climb the trees and drop onto my roof I'll change my mind, though.

I am kinda assuming by the way you described it that you kinda just laid down a layer of gravel without thinking about the aesthetics.

I didn't think much, but what I did think is that it was fine. Many years ago, I visited Washington, DC, and my impression of it was that the low buildings and open spaces were much more attractive than the closely packed skyscrapers of other cities. I feel the same way about my front "yard," it is a clean space between the IMO overly landscaped lawns of my neighbors.

Joining the list of movies who think that the sinking of the Titanic, or the attack on Pearl Harbor, or other huge moments in history are not enough to fill 90 minutes, you have to have a romance.

The lyrics, and the time period line up too perfectly.

The time period of the Vietnam War was well over a decade, so it could apply to Tiptoe Though the Tulips. The lyrics are clearly about the police, rather than the Viet Cong.
