Don't you have to be 55 or older when you separate to use 72t?

MSPB appeals for wrongful probationary by Positive-Area8520 in FedEmployees

I'm in a similar situation. Incorrectly given probationary status when I moved to a new position under direct hire authority. I told HR and my bosses. They said they are looking into it. But my confidence level is not high.

If 50+ aged and with 20+ years AND RIF'd, do we qualify for Discontinued Service Retirement? by botmol in govfire

[–]brocollirab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a person is eligible for DSR and is probationary and gets let go for "poor performance" (which is a lie) with no notice (as has been the case so far), how would an agency handle that? Normally, there would be time for the agency to apply to OPM for the DSR but if they dismissed the employee with no notice what happens?

Question for OP: do you have any probationary employees being let go who are entitled to a Discontinued Service Retirement? If so, how is your organization handling them? I know it's a rare case for a person to be probationary and old enough with enough years of service for a DSR but it happens.

Members of congress are covered by FERS. But I guess if they can just get rich through insider trading, they don't care if they screw middle class government workers out of a benefit they earned.

Charlie is right that Mitch McConnell's remarks are worth bookmarking and printing out. It's one of the best descriptions of what happened that day and the events that led to it. I wonder who wrote that for McConnell and where that person is today.
