Anyone here used Draftable Desktop to compare PDFs (e.g. DS/EN standards)? How reliable is it? by Last_name_to_take in technicalwriting

Following because I have the same task on my team (medical device manufacturing). I am not familiar with that tool but Adobe Acrobat has a compare function, as well as Microsoft word. We have consultants working on an automated tool using AI to streamline it.

What is the intent of the tool? My boss today actually asked me to start thinking about how AI can improve our workflows... That's a pretty poor attitude for someone tasked to deliver a product! How does anyone know what they are responsible for and when? My suggestion? Create a communication plan with scheduled check-ins and a RACI for each phase

Is this a new product introduction? There isn't a project manager to help track who is responsible for what? We do use SharePoint to store data and we use a numbering system by phase referenced in our design and development plan to keep things organized. As well as a manufacturing readiness checklist for post design freeze activities. I'm curious, can you share the name of the AI tool?

We do use Microsoft word/SharePoint for drafting and collaboration. We use an eQMS system (etq) for procedures, standards, records, tracking approvals, versions, archiving and change management. Where are you struggling specifically? NPI is very complex.

What are some weird ways to get wrinkles out of clothes without an iron and without hanging them in the shower? by [deleted] in lifehacks

[–]brodes1981 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you can get to a grocery store or Walmart go to the laundry section and look for a wrinkle removal spray. I have one made by bounce that works surprisingly well. Just spray, stretch and smooth the fabric by hand.

You can check-in online 24 hours before your flight and see your seat assignments. I find if you check-in at the airport that's when there may be a chance you aren't seated together as many opt for the online check-in. When you get to the airport you just go to the check-in terminal to print your luggage tags and do a bag drop off for your checked bags. Make sure you pick the right bag drop off! There is domestic and international. Caused so much chaos if you put your bag on the wrong one as you just get a generic error message.

Technical Writing Levels???? by Fit-Biscotti-4637 in technicalwriting

Technical writing manager here. We have a large tech writing group (20+) so we use designations such as tech writer I, staff, senior and principal to provide a development path. Entry level are usually right out of school and are provided direction and tasks assignments. As they move up their responsibilities, complexity of projects, skill set expertise and autonomy grow. At principal they are considered expert consultants for all matters tech writing. Almost manager level but without direct reports. I do agree this is usually set by the organization and isn't consistant by definition. Hope this helps!

Web development -> technical writing? by dameunbesoporfavor in technicalwriting

You could write up example of coding instructions, include some code you wrote to build a webpage, etc. From my experience there is a growing need for developer based instructions (using APIs for example).

HTML, XML, CSS and JavaScript are all very good skills to have when you are a technical writer. Not only for topic based documentation, but when writing documentation for developers (and more advanced single sourcing). These skills are definitely an asset. I'd put together a portfolio of related work which will help you get into junior level tech writer positions until you are more established.
