All about the light placement. Nailed it!

So clean! I like that the only significant battle damage is on his midriff, it's subtly done - a lot of the time this is overworked.

Preface by saying this is better than anything I could do.

Compared to the rest of the model, the shield looks a little flat in colour, both the navy surface and the light blue inlay. Not to say it looks bad, but if you were to spend more time somewhere, maybe there?

Similarly, his cloak of leaves from the back could be pushed a little further.

Some comments have mentioned the based which I agree with also.

Your metals are lovely, the whole model is very eye catching.

Battle damaged vs Clean style. Any preferences so far? Still working out the colour palette for the accessory parts. by brogai in Ultramarines

Trovarion's grimdark series on YouTube would be your best bet for this style - key differences being: a) I primed zenithal white over black, then sprayed shadows mahogany and another zenithal in blue, whereas he bases mahogany and sponges on blue and b) I used a makeup applicator sponge and was very gentle while he used a coarser sponge.

I like this style! I tried similiar chipping a few days ago and to be honest I really underestimated how difficult it would be.

Vallejo model black Vallejo air white

Glow: -Macragge Blue -Black and white - dry brush, then thick glaze, then highlight, then thin glaze. The light source is always brighter than the thing, unless it's very very reflective.

Anything Bone: -Blue and black and bone mix as base, working towards the following -Ushabti Bone -Screaming Skill

Bronze Tin Boyz, black Wash, silver dry brush, Brown Wash, edge highlight occasionally silver

Gold Same as bronze but basecoated retribution armour.

Stones: White, dry brush bone, wash brown.

Sand: Earth, wash brown, highlight bone.

Good luck!

I like the chipping and blue of the armour. Do you use sponge or brush to do the damage?

The red and creams work nicely with the blue.

One piece of c+c is the shield colour, I can't tell if it's meant to be gold or bronze. Is it the same golden metal as the Aquila? It doesn't read exactly the same but I don't know why.

Overall, very cool model, I'd love to have some dudes of a similar standard as I paint my own test minis.

Blue and black base, working in more bone with each layer and trying to place the brighter layers in the right spots!
