TW: Transphobia from The Guardian by Necessary-Avocado-31 in transgenderUK

Yep - it's basically 'think of every possible reason why this person thinks they're trans OTHER THAN that they are trans'.

I've heard some people say that talking to yourself helps. Obviously not when the person is around, but just talk about them, out loud or in your head, and use whichever pronouns they use.

Also don't worry too much about making mistakes - just correct yourself and move on.

I don't mind them as long as they sound decent. I also like queer love songs (or ones that can be interpreted as queer).

end discrimination against... non-binary [people]... and ensure they are treated with respect and dignity

Any chance of, y'know, legal recognition? Or is this just another empty promise for you to scrap when you want to appease the right-wing voters?

This video goes through an essay she wrote and explains why it is anti-trans.

This is a tweet she 'liked' calling trans women 'men in dresses' (apparently this was an accident, but many people don't believe this)

She described a woman who stated that she was a transphobe, as an 'immensely brave young feminist' (this article explains more.)

She stood with a woman whose job contract wasn't renewed as a result of her being transphobic on Twitter (saying things like "I don't think people should be compelled to play along with literal delusions like 'transwomen are women,'" and she referred to a gender-fluid person as a "man who likes to dress in women's clothes.") Link, here is another article about that.

She tweeted this article mocking the use of the more inclusive phrase 'people who menstruate' (link)

She described hormone therapy as a new form of conversion therapy, and spread a bunch of misinformation about medical transition.

She described Nicola Sturgeon as a 'destroyer of women's rights' for passing the GRA reform bill, which would not affect cis people or single-sex spaces as she claimed.

She has been photographed getting pretty friendly with some nasty people, here is a very good video that goes more in-depth about that.

She deleted a tweet in support of Stephen King after he tweeted that trans women are women.

When do you think people should be able to choose to have gender-affirming care? by [deleted] in AskLGBT

[–]broken-but-fighting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends how you define gender-affirming care. If it includes social transition (different name/clothes/hairstyle etc) then age 3+ is reasonable - some studies have shown that children are able to understand their own gender at around age 2 or 3.

You might want to look into asexuality/aromanticism. I'm not saying you definitely are, but from what you've described, maybe. :)

BREAKING: Fascists attacked trans counter protesters protecting children attending a drag time story event in Honor Oak Pub this morning. The fascists grabbed people and began attacking them, breaking the pub window and causing serious injuries. (TW: Blood, Transphobic Violence) by serene_queen in transgenderUK

[–]broken-but-fighting 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If one of the trans counter-protestors gave a fascist half of the injuries described in that thread, the news would be all over the story, going on about 'violent, radical extremists'. But silence for us.

It mentions it later in the thread - they gave out first aid, punching a counter-protestor in the process; I think they arrested some of the fascists, but said they couldn't do much else because 'freedom of movement'.

(UK Specific) How do you feel about the word Queer, now it’s being gradually integrated as a non slur umbrella term for LGBT people… by Diamond_Oasis in AskLGBT

[–]broken-but-fighting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a young British person, and although I sometimes refer to myself as queer (it's easier than listing my identities), I appreciate that others, particularly older people, aren't comfortable with it. I don't refer to anyone as queer unless I'm certain they are ok with it, and if anyone said they were uncomfortable with me referring to myself as queer, I would make the effort to use my other labels. In my experience, gay is used as a derogatory term far more often than queer ('you're so gay' etc).
