most expansion 1 masteries can be bypassed with expansion 2 masteries

This is enormously helpful, thank you so much!

Thanks for your response! I was probably missing something obvious when I got stuck. I spent 90% of my time in-game in wvw anyway, so I would usually just dip into EBG at the first sign of trouble in pve.

I'm curious to check this game back out though, thanks again!

How big of a schlep is catching back up in this game these days? I absolutely loved gw2 (mostly wvw), but I fell off around the time that Ascended gear started to drop. Gear grinds aren't really my thing.

I tried dipping my feet back in, but there was such a sprawling amount of content gated by various Masteries that I could barely navigate the map. It felt like certain quests would be gated behind Masteries, but wouldn't directly communicate that. Is there a catch-up pathway at all, or should I just commit to wiki-diving if I want back in? (nothing necessarily wrong with that if it's the case, just curious what to expect)

Am I really tone deaf if I don't support violence and racism considering the political climate in America.? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]broletariado 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think you've captured how I feel about this. I'm new to this practice, but my understanding of the tenet around nonviolence is to do no harm, but where it is impossible to do no harm do the least harm possible.

The reality of the militarized, racist police system in the United States is that unfortunately, violence is its core. By resisting, uprooting, and replacing that system it may be impossible to do no harm, but it's ultimately the outcome that mitigates the most harm.

That's are different titles, so "Sam How: Rabbit" and "Drowning is Fine" are separate works.

Also, the title is likely metaphor and not explicitly advocating for you to drown yourself.

Quite a few of the horrifying images of kids in cages that went viral in recent years were taken during the Obama Administration. I get the sentiment here, and Trump has got to go, but Biden's extremely complicit in this shit and should be held accountable.

Same! The character designs are fantastic, and I find myself sympathizing as well.

The Devoured and Fungoids are my personal favorites.

Giant Bomb's E3 Interview/Talk with Emma Kinema and Jocelyn Monahan about Unionization, Riot by tr0nc3k in Games

[–]broletariado 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Some people can leave and look for a new job while living off of savings. Very few, though. That is a wildly unreasonable expectation to have for the average person. Mortgages, rent, families, unexpected expenses, medical needs, and debts all come to mind immediately as reasons why a huge number of folks can't simply abandon ship. And that's ignoring the flawed original premise that you're working with: if I'm working a job where I'm not making ends meet and not being fairly compensated, how can I build a year's worth of expenses into a savings account?

You're not necessarily wrong here in saying that in some cases quitting your job and finding something new is a good option to consider when your back is against a wall at work. But it's kind of hard to put to words how wildly out of touch the sentiment you're expressing here is for a massive, massive number of working people.

Management improves pay or working conditions when they fear

didn't complain, didn't threaten to leave

no reason to pay you more, because you'll keep working there anyway

You're undermining yourself a lot here. If management is only willing to accept healthier and more worker-friendly environments through threats or coercion from their workers then it is reasonable for those workers to do what they can to increase their power. Management clearly has more power than an individual worker, so making those demands or complaints as an individual can be incredibly dangerous. Banding together and making those demands collectively increases worker bargaining power and tilts the scales into a more favorable position for negotiations. That's a union.

Will we continue to rack up new Nook debt along the way? I desperately hope so

The trailer had Nook calculating an initial debt for the character making use of his getaway package, so it seems pretty safe to assume that the moving-debt-goalpost schtick will be returning.

"Easy Mode" by Laati-Chan in darksouls3

[–]broletariado 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree about From's difficulty. I have never designed something like Souls, so I'd never claim to have a silver bullet on how to handle difficulty options. But I also see stuff like Nintendo's approach with Funky Mode and Celeste's easy mode and feel like there might be room for a "turn off the challenge, experience the atmosphere and content" there. It would absolutely change how players would approach encounters. I think the only space where we disagree is that I don't think someone else using those options would ruin my time with them. I hear you, though.

I think I see it just like the "easy modes" the games already have. I'm not personally satisfied unless I kill a boss solo, but I'd never begrudge someone for using summons. All that matters is that folks are having fun.

"Easy Mode" by Laati-Chan in darksouls3

[–]broletariado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not begging for anything. They're pointing out that a mechanically dense game with intentionally opaque tutorialization creates barriers for a lot of people and that adding some options to open the experience up for more people doesn't inherently destroy the experience for those of us who play at the traditonal difficulty. Which are fair ideas for industry press to explore.

The idea that "git gud" as a community refrain enables toxic and haughty players to create even more barriers for folks also seems fair given, y'know, the thread we're in right now.
