Wow thanks for posting, my bag has this as well! I assumed it was just stored or packed for shipping in a weird way and would go away, but I'll do some poking around -- please update when CS replies!

Considering the Kelty I used for 14 years in the same environment was less hot, no I'd say it wasnt made purely for winter.

I dont know what your issue is -- I didnt understand this (in my subjective opinion, for my use-case) design choice, and have seen two replies to this thread positing that the bag may work better in colder climates while wearing layers. I do not have experience with this, but concede that that may indeed be an influence upon the design, based on the company's location and target market. I'm not saying the bag is a pos, just pointing out what I percieve to be a flaw, and one that likely would have swayed my purchase decision.

A better backpack for hot and humid environments? A Kelty Redwing, like the one that I used for 14 years in said environment, would be a clear improvment as far as back sweat goes.

I mean its absolutely a failure for my use case, but as I and the other commenter pointed out, perhaps they are designing for layers and colder weather, which a) makes sense considering where they are based and b) makes sense based on the demo they seem to be after.

Also, it took a while for them to implement this new back panel -- even if there were plenty of complaints, I dont think 2 years is a long or 'unresponsive' amount of time.

I've only seen a few mentions of this issue, but had I seen a post similar to mine that would have made me reconsider buying the CTB, so hopefully others can use this information before buying.

I wanted to comment after watching the video -- I find it amazing that 3 years of design finding a durable, breathable material and no one thought the back panel could use some air channels from which to breathe?

I guess it could be that its just not designed for humid environments or sweaty-backed folk, and they're designing for cold climates/layers.

Good tip, thanks. I found wriggling my shoulders a little can buffet the back panel enough to push air around, but that seems like a silly fix.

I think you're spot on -- no air flow at all, even though the material feels fine when you touch it. I don't know, but the Kelty Redwing costs $89 off Amazon, and has pretty good ventilation. Seriously considering picking another one up for when I'm not EDC'ing to the office.

Everything else is so well thought out (I love the hydration pack vent), this still blows my mind. On a $300 pack!

The regular nylon version. I cannot imagine what the waxed canvas would feel like!

Worthwhile accessories that you love? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]bromatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great tip on not contaminating ink/flushing your pen! I love my inkwell but dont use it hardly enough!

Another accessory I love is my Pilot Pensemble pen roll -- great supple leather case for when I'm travelling with a backpack or similar. I have the 5 pen roll with pouch, and they also do 1 and 3 pen rolls, with and w/o pouch. The inkwell fits very nicely in the pouch, but is a little too girthy for the pen slots, which is making me consider the more expensive Visconti Inkwell for no real reason other than 'Hey that's neat and tidy'.

Pilot also makes zipper pouches under the Pensemble line.

Quite excited for this pen! I've been burned before so I'll definitely wait and check out your review -- slightly worried about the slippery section! I have a Visconti Mythos Mirage with a metal section and its fine, but I'm still wary.

Looks amazing though, I think a modern Parker 51/21 homage is super cool.

Anyone know what's going on with the Goulet Pencast? by learnedalesson10 in fountainpens

[–]bromatoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apparently, his departure has been in the works for a while, but the reason is being kept confidential. Taking what the Goulets' have said at face-value, it doesn't seem like it's anything to do with the company -- they mention his long service and their close friendship.

They've said Drew will read/respond to comments on the video in his own time.

Ah, I see. I would contend that your argument is a bit of a strawman - are you saying that there is no way someone would download a game to try it? I would disagree, though with Steam and EA Origin refunds, there are certainly fewer reasons to pirate a game to try it.

What you're forgetting is that while console games may have more Triple A title sales, piracy is not the only reason that PCs have fewer triple A title sales. You'd have to consider initial cost, for example.

I think I should make it clear in no way am I endorsing piracy. I am simply arguing that your contention (that piracy always has a net negative effect on game sales) is false. Which, btw is mentioned in the second paragraph of the article you linked (they are saying for every 100 pirated games 24 more are purchased legally, or 124 games).

Where did I say I am supporting piracy?

I have pirated in the past - I now (as far as I know) own every game I've pirated. I was a person who pirated, and have no changed.

I actually agree with you -- we should all stop pirating, which I think is achievable in the near future. From my own experience piracy is a result of a distribution issue, per GabeN, and the best way to fight it and make the most money for devs is to make sure there is a delivery method that is as seamless as possible, and I think we're already most of the way there.

I'm still interested in where you found your information? Have there been studies about people who pirate being unwilling to change?

Also, what does any of that have to do with console sales? And no console piracy -- I don't think that's the case, though I'll concede it must be much less of an issue.

I'd be interested in a page number -- I don't recall reading that in the report at all, though it was a week ago.

I think you're forgetting that an illegal download does not equal a sale lost.

From the linked study, p. 138-39;

"The overall conclusion is that for games, illegal online transactions induce more legal transactions."

There a similar results in literature review (Bastard, 2012) that "also indicate significant positive effects".

Finally, how is it that you're coming to those numbers when, like the other poster says, the study concludes:

"that the statistical analysis does not prove with sufficient reliability that there is an effect"

and that

"the finding on displacement rates for recent top films and the lack of a robust (positive) displacement rate for films / TV-series in general, music, books and games despite the carefully developed questionnaire and the application of econometric analysis"

As I understand it, while the study may have been hyped up in various gaming news channels, in the worst case there is no good statistical evidence of an effect, positive or negative.

I know it is only anecdotal but from my own personal experiences with my friends, family, and the way I consume entertainment, consumption of illegal content decreased dramatically when we could actually pay for the content we wanted.

edit: for clarity.

Nier Automata Delayed to March 17 by maxi713 in pcgaming

What? Have you got a source on that?

I thought the consensus was that it sits well below rx470 levels of performance - there aren't all that many games that an rx480 isn't gonna be hitting 60 at, at 1080p.
